Yeah, yeah, I guess I was thinking that the box office thread was shut down after a while. I swear to God, had never seen that here.

Its was quite sad to see the people of the hype degenerate there..

some de-evolved:csad:

Only two facts matter at this point. 1 - The movie´s getting a sequel. 2 - Singer will direct it. The rest is gonna be the same fanboy bickering that went for weeks here without really going nowhere except people jumping on each other´s throats and getting probation/banishment.
:cwink: That said i would add that in an ideal world people would express their displeasure /whish for the sequel , without lacking respect to other people opinion..

But ,some people prefer to think that they can enforce their opinion ( and it doesn't work that way..quite the contrary..that's the irony .. )

I think although the movie didn't proform to waht people expected..i couldn't care less.. i got to see a movie i really enjoyed..and now a sequel is on the way.

At the end of the day thats all that matters to me.
Agreed.

You people see this as only a means to discuss success/failure. Heres an idea...use the thread to discuss why. What went wrong? Why did it happen? How do you improve and build upon that for the sequel?

They already have...

These are the final numbers for Superman Returns.

Domestically: $200.1 million

Worldwide: $391.1 million

Domestically it is number five of the year, behind Pirates of the Carribean 2, Cars, X-Men 3, and The DaVinci Code.

Worldwide it is number 7 behind Pirates 2, DaVinci, Ice Age: The Meltdown, X-men 3, Cars, and MI:3.

Discuss.
SR was a success for such a pointless, uninspiring and boring storyline. welldone, WB & singer. you got another chance to kill the superman movie franchise.

The same way we can discuss what was right, why and how do you preserve that for the sequel as you improve on the shortcomings. We can all win here.

Agreed. If I'm not mistaken it did well in Japan, no? Why Japan? How do you keep that success while reaching out to other markets to garner more success?

First and foremost the target is the U.S. Success here usually translates to success overseas, although there are cases where a movie does awful here and brilliant overseas.

its funny the people complaining about the marketing were the same people lapping up every magazine cover last year. i remember being on the X3 magazine thread and everyone was so annoyed that it was yet again another superman cover.

It didn't make a killing because it was basically Smallville: The MOVIE.

Only the teen angst was magnified to ridiculous levels with a bunch of unnecessary christ parallels and direct ripoffs from STM.

It's not some big mystery. It's pretty clear that people want something better than the OC in tights. We're not stupid, WB.... We've seen Superman, Lex, and his rogues done miles better than in STM so don't feed us the same lines, and plot points we have seen before and expect a happy audience. It's been a long time and we've already moved on. And i can't believe it takes a dissapointing box office to finally convince these guys to crack open a comic or something. Did they not learn from batman? Or even superman? What is so wrong with doing a modern superman for 2006???

You guys from wb reading this, listen:

Superman doesn't hate his powers.

Superman doesn't feel insecure unless it's about how well he can serve the people who love him.

Superman doesn't ditch Lois.

Superman doesn't leave for 5 or 6 years with his fortress completely ungaurded.

Superman doesn't crush some innocent person's car with a huge globe.

Superman doesn't waste time letting some punk shoot him in the eye or teeth or whatever.

Superman doesn't father a child before ditching lois.

Superman doesn't give luthor a chance to touch him.

Superman doesn't screw with his dog.

Superman doesn't kill, manslaughter or not. The only exception is when he has no other way to defend himself.

Superman doesn't spy on his former girlfriends.

Superman doesn't act like spiderman and bich and moan about how hard life is.

Superman doesn't walk on kryptonite and not feel a thing.

Superman doesn't just hear audio bits from Marlon brando in his head. His earth father was more of an influence on him than jor el.

He's superman, he likes who he is, he chose it, he accepts it. God...

But don't just listen to me, listen to the man himself too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxYCvsz6zFA&mode=related&search=

Last time I saw SR, he never said he did.

Superman doesn't feel insecure unless it's about how well he can serve the people who love him.

The only thing he was insecure about was Lois' feelings. He found out pretty quick that the world needed a savior and was okay being that savior.

Superman doesn't ditch Lois.

He didn't ditch her, he left because he felt he had to. Besides, you can't ditch someone you can't be with.

Superman doesn't leave for 5 or 6 years with his fortress completely ungaurded.

To quote Kevin Smith: "It's the Fortress of SOLITUDE. There's nobody up there. And he doesn't need guards...he's SUPERMAN."

Superman doesn't crush some innocent person's car with a huge globe.

When he had to rush out and save Lois, yeah he does. Those couple of minutes he would have used to weld the globe back on the Daily Planet could have cost Lois and Richard their lives.

Superman doesn't waste time letting some punk shoot him in the eye or teeth or whatever.

Now you're just complaining about one of the coolest shots in the movie.

Superman doesn't father a child before ditching lois.

He didn't know she was preggers, case closed.

Superman doesn't give luthor a chance to touch him.

KRYPTONITE

Superman doesn't screw with his dog.

Why not? Again, you're picking on a really nice chuckling moment.

Superman doesn't kill, manslaughter or not. The only exception is when he has no other way to defend himself.

He didn't intentionally kill anyone. What was he supposed to do? Warn Lex and everyone to get off so he could lift New Krypton without hurting them?

Superman doesn't spy on his former girlfriends.

Actually, there was a short period where Lois broke off their engagement and he had one of his bots look after her and see what she was doing. There's your source material for ya.

Superman doesn't act like spiderman and bich and moan about how hard life is.

He didn't do that in the movie I watched.

Superman doesn't walk on kryptonite and not feel a thing.

You see that bead of sweat in the scene? He's feeling it.

Superman doesn't just hear audio bits from Marlon brando in his head. His earth father was more of an influence on him than jor el.

Sorry, but in the movie-verse you are just incorrect-a-mondo. Jor-El has a greater impact on Supes later on in his life. Who does Superman talk to after he goes on a saving spree his first time out? Jor-El. Who does he talk to when he wants to be with Lois the rest of his life? Jor-El (or Lara, depending on what version you watch). Who tells him all of his powers and how to use them? Jor-El. Jonathan Kent may have had a big hand in Clark growing up, but Jor-El dealt with the grown up and told him what was best from then on.

Clark never called Martha Kent to see what he should do. He always went to Jor-El and Lara.

He's superman, he likes who he is, he chose it, he accepts it. God...

He accepted being Superman again the moment he put the tights back on and saved the plane.

Reeve was a good actor but that interview and Superman IV itself proves that I never wanted him to ever produce a Superman film again after that.

I mean this is what they originally came up with during that interview:

finally!!! i saw it!!! thank you so much!
ya, it was terrible and should be thrown into the trashcan.
i'm just glad than i have finally seen it. thanks again.

damn... now i might think singer doing a good job...

Well the bottomline is the movie underperformed in relation to WB's expectations and expert predictions. That being said, it was the 5th highest grossing movie of 2006 in the U.S. You really can't dismiss that.

Well said! These stubborn folk need to quit b!tching about everything. The Superman mythology has changed many, many times over nearly 70 years. He's been moody, confident, dead, alive. He's dealt with villians new and old, countless times...yes, even Lex Luthor. So, for the love of God, please stop complaining. The film may have bombed a tiny bit finanacially, but it still made a whopping $400 MILLION dollars! You try doing that after a 19-year cinematic hiatus!

Oh, and with regards to that nonsense about Christ paralells, it is a well-known fact that Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were Jewish. They intentionally placed Jewish and Christian paralells in the comics, as many writers did after them. I think Jonathan and Martha were even full-out Christians in one storyline...

Man,are they marketing the hell out of the DvD & video game.
Die already! Die! :cmad: :csad:
Every where I turn, Singerman is hunting me :wow:

SUPERSTALKER the Movie :woot:

I'm not sure what is worse. Dean Cane's hair (in every variation) or the show itself.

So $391M was the final tally.....ahhhhhhh that old BO thread:cwink:

I have to say that it is a lot less than many of us thought it would make and i don't see a marketing problem, there wasn't much action in the movie so the trailers carried the moneyshots that it had

I enjoyed the movie but having seen Casino Royale last week i think a better job was done of rebooting Bond and bringing him back to the masses so maybe Singer can take heart in that now that he has tied up what he and some perceived as the Donner predicament

I believe $391M is the worldwide gross. which is waaaaAY more than I expected. Great for a VERY BLAND :supes: FILM!

$391M WW + $200M domestic, singerman did pretty well to my dismay :cmad:

And now it seem that the WB will greenlight part II :csad:
oOH WELL!!
