good episode! did not expect to see two meta humans go at it, nor the return of Clock King! The Wells subplot is developing nicely. I'm with the group that suspects he's T.O. Morrow. But I'm still not completely convinced he's NOT Professor Zoom, mainly because it's so obvious he IS, that he cant be.

Got to see this in a screening with the actor that played Blackout which was nice.

Also, does anyone else feel like they're prepping for a potential Caitlin and Barry romance? Honestly, I feel like Barry and Caitlin are like the equivalent of Harry Potter and Hermoine....there's chemistry there, but there doesn't seem to be a current intent on pushing it forward.

IMO it's like Chlark and Olicity all over again. Must be a self-fulfilling prophecy with these shows.

Not necessarily, He was mentioned with the others as casualties of the accident, insinuating he and the others were killed. Then again, who knows?
I take it as anyone listed as killed by Wells, that is already known to be a character is caused by him.
But that's just me.

So his top speed went from 850 mph to faster than light (or at the very least, faster than lightning, which is still considerably faster than 850 mph)? And no one seemed to think it was a big deal?

Great episode.
I honestly expected this one to be just good...but they handled two character heavy plots really well.
It's up there with the Captain Cold episode for me.
We got to see Barry enjoy his powers and confess to loving being The Flash AND learn to go faster. Two villains who were threatening. Some nice Wells scenes revealing what he's trying try to do or at least some of it for those who aren't in the know. And compelling chemistry with the Star Labs team while Barry was powerless.

Anyone else think Wells may be Metron?

Think about it.

  • Gideon and the Red Skies hints at Darkseid and the New Gods' involvement.
  • He has a penchant to ride around on a chair.
  • He seems to be able to travel through time.

you might be on to something there.

Metron was based on Leonard Nimoy (which Wells bares a striking resemblance to)
Metron once disguised himself as an invalid in a wheelchair

The chair allows him to move through time/space (so when he goes to see Gideon he might actually be in the future)

He could 'well' be, but then there would be numerous plotholes in the season so far as Wells could fix many of the issues with his chair.

The T.O.Morrow is another good guess.

Looking forward to the big reveal.

As I don't watch Arrow, i'm not as hyped about next week as everyone else.

P.S. Iris is a really terrible actress. Snaps me out of it whenever she's on screen. She has one gear.

P.P.S. Given recent interviews (linked in Speculation Thread) I like the idea of RF being a third party even more now.

The Police Chief?

If there were two streaks when Barry's Mother died, logic would dictate that either current flash goes back in time or the future flash vanished in the future to come back and attempt to save his mother and himself.

The first scenario makes me lean toward the third party (police chief) but the second could happen if Eddie becomes RF in a future episode.

So my guesses currently are....

Wells turns Eddie into RF with the power he gets from Blackout
or
RF is a hidden third-party with Eddie being a Red Herring.

Not a bad episode.

It was good to finally have a villain who didn't gain super-powers, wait 10 months and then decide to use their super-powers for "evil" purposes. Of course, that just raises the question of where Blackout was siphoning the electricity that he needs to live for the past 10 months. At the very least Cisco or Caitlin could have commented on a spate of power outages in Central City ever since the particle accelerator exploded.

And it was a little lazy how they did away with the consequences of Barry revealing his identity to Girder last week by simply killing off Girder. And it was a little weird that Barry wasted "time" during his final confrontation with Blackout to change into his superhero costume, even though he'd already confronted Blackout in his civilian gear.

I was NOT fussed about Iris crushing on The Flash, especially after he didn't show up to help her (even though her boyfriend was almost killed). It makes her pretty unlikeable that she can't recognise Barry (someone she grew up with for at least 15 years) and that she's happy to flirt with The Flash while her boyfriend is laying in a hospital bed recovering from a bullet wound received while trying to save Iris' life. I really hope that they can do something to turn around Iris' character.

Wells' future google program should really be exploited by him more often. Couldn't he just google information on whatever villain they're facing every week. Or is his super-computer limited to showing the results of a single newspaper on a specified date in the far future? But, if he can build a time-travelling super-computer, then surely he could expand its functionality to do more than just show the front page of a newspaper?

I'm looking forward to seeing the Elongated Man!

Interesting idea.
Why would Metron have special interest in Barry Allen?

I feel the same about Iris, terrible actress but what you have said reminded me of the way Barry smiled when Iris came back without the coffee which in turn made me think that perhaps Barry uses his alt identity to steal Iris from Eddie, who in turn gains Barry's power after he develops a hatred and obsession with Flash, becoming the RF?

Has it not always been the same date of paper from 2024? I haven't been paying close attention to the papers in previous eps.

Yeah, this is a pretty ****** behaviour on both, Iris' and Barry's part. I really don't like the idea that this could be the reason for Eddie to become the RF, though. I feel kinda sorry for him that way. :csad:

I think so, but that's what I wasn't sure about. Whether "Gideon" can only time-travel (?) to show a single newspaper from a specific, single date in the future. Or whether Gideon can basically show anything from the future at any time. It seems that the time-travelling news service is restricted to that single newspaper, but that seems like a really odd design/function for such a computer program.

I'm guessing it will make more sense once Wells' secrets are revealed. Maybe he brought that newspaper back with him from the future and he somehow created some program which lets him view that particular newspaper as it is altered by events in the past.

I agree. I hadn't considered what poor character it shows on Barry's behalf for him to use Iris' interest in his costumed alter-ego to try and sabotage her relationship with Eddie. Obviously, Iris is a willing participant. But, for an otherwise "nice guy", trying to cut another guy's grass isn't really that endearing.

Exactly, but it isn't just an all TV show thing with Barry, during JLA (or JL, can't really remember) Year One he actually was kind of cheating on Iris with Dinah and while I loved him otherwise in this run I never liked this part.

Well, nobody is perfect and he did pull it together in the end so that he didn't look like a total jackass but I fear that this could be quite a make it or break it point on the show when it comes to Barry's likeability because there are so many different writers and it is easy to mess something like this up rather spectarularly.

(And I still can't imagine them being together, I don't know why but I get much more the friend than the relationship vibe from both of them, even when Barry is ogling her like some sappy teenager all the fricking time.)

He Professor Zoom before he becomes Professor Zoom you guys do realize that right.

It's great to hear Ralph Dibny's name pop up. Did any other major characters get mentioned in that sequence? Besides Ronnie, of course.

Other than Ralph and Ronnie, Wells mentioned:

Al Rothstein a.k.a. Nuklon a.k.a. Atom Smasher

Grant Emerson a.k.a. Damage

Will Everett a.k.a. Amazing-Man

and

Bea DaCosta a.k.a. Fire.

Either Wells is supernatural in his own right, or he's already done some time traveling, how else would he know all those names by heart?

Newspapers and guilt is my guess.

Research, and a very good memory.

Great episode. Wells and the timeline stuff is so intriguing. Knepper is so awesome as Clock King. VFX were amazing. Blackout felt similar to Electro in TASM2 but with less needless backstory.

I still want Flash to go public soon though.

I really hope he will not and I can't imagine they will make him to. I just want him to be able to handle his secret identiy a bit better in the furture but I guess this is something you have to grow into as well.

And, totally agree, Knepper is chillingly amazing! Hope we see more of him soon, the Clock King is an amazing character, wouldn't have expected that.

If wells can stand up, why the heck does he need a wheel chair?
