Never played the original Shenmue games, but isn't the story incomplete? From what I remember, it was supposed to be a series of games that got ended prematurely.

Yea, its deff incomplete. I think the orig idea was to have like 7 games or something. Hopefully if they release 1 and 2 to good sales, it might get them to make the final game(s)

I hope they do for Sega's sake, they really need a big game to come out to do the company some justice. They had a good thing going with Shenmue, and with today's technology, they could really do some amazing stuff with the game. The Yakuza games have become the somewhat spiritual successor to Shenmue, but I think we need a proper sequel to the series.

100% yes to everything. Well said.

I'd be stunned if Shenmue 3 actually happened. I've never gotten into the series but it has always seemed to me like a gaming urban legend. You always hear rumblings that raise hope....only to be let down.

Then again, Duke Nuke'em Forever happened so I suppose anything is possible (though look how Duke Nuke'em Forever turned out....maybe it is sometimes better to leave the past in the past).

I kinda agree, but in Duke Nukem's case, the game had a troubled past and it was stuck in development hell for years. With the amount of time that went by in that game's absence, tons of other FPS games had come out and garnered the interest of gamers, pretty much making Duke Nukem an afterthought. The character was made in the 90's and by today's standards, it shows, and not in a good way. Even though we never got a sequel to Shenmue 2, I believe the game still has relevance just due to the fact that there aren't too many games out there like that.

Yeah, the story was never completed, as a matter of fact, you never faced off against the game's villain Lan Di, IMO i think that was supposed to be the big conclusion to it all

Ironically Yu Suzuki has hinted that Ryo was never going to have that climactic final battle with Lan Di like you would expect, and instead over the course of his journey, Ryo would learn to let go of his hatred and quest for revenge. Which, to me would have been 1000 times more interesting than the typical cliche good vs evil final battle, and because of that it's 1000 times more tragic that the series will never be continued or concluded. Which in turn makes me wish I could play it all the more. :cmad:

Anyway, I don't think Yu Suzuki works with Sega anymore, and I honestly wouldn't want more Shenmue if he's not on board. Besides, as previously mentioned, Sega has Yakuza, and those games are fantastic.

I remember reading that he was leaving Sega, but not completely cutting ties with the company, he was taking an "advisory role". I would think that if Sega wanted to continue on with Shenmue, they would consult with him first since he did create the story and all. And we're not exactly sure about the fate of a third game at this point, and for all we know, they may be re-releasing 1 and 2 to see if people are still interested in the series. If the sales look good on their end, they may very well move forward with a third game if they have secretly started already.

Man, I wish we could've seen that ending if that's how it was planned. That would be a great change from the norm.

I agree, that probably would have went down in gaming history as one of the biggest plot twist. It would have been great, especially if it would have spanned over the course of like 6 games because you see the character progress as a person only to find that his seeking revenge was something that he needed to let go of completely.

Totally off topic, but Alchemyst, I started watching Golgo 13 recently. Does it get better or more interesting than what you see in the first episode?

To answer your question, yes, the episodes get better and better. I will say this, you may want to get a hold of both of the anime films that came out back in the day. The series makes Golgo 13 look virtually unstoppable and his skill can't be matched or overthrown, I still found it to be enjoyable, the 2 films on the other hand show some of Golgo 13's vulnerability.

Fuuuuuu- through a friend of a relative, I just saw the early stages of a Triple AAA title that wont be announced till E3 and it's killing me. I want to go around telling people, but because I don't want anyone getting in trouble I can't say anything. When you see the announcement, though, you wont be surprised.

That's a quick drop.

Last I heard of Shenmue 3, was that Yu Suzuki was planning on purchasing the license from SEGA and then, I presume, shop it around with his pitch.

I loved the first game. I really regret trading it, and my Dreamcast, in. That game was just amazing to me at the time, because it transformed this virtual place into a living, breathing, mundane world that just seemed authentic.

I own, and played through most of, the second game. But, I think I stopped around the time I heard that Shenmue III wasn't happening.

thats typical of games these days. Unless I REALLY love the series, I dont even bother buying games day one anymore bc most will go on sale by at least $20 within the first month

Same here. I was so close to buying Mass Effect 3 day one, but with my current backlog of games and my new love for Cheap Ass Gamer, I decided to just bide my time. Avoiding spoilers when you hang with gamers is pretty killer though.

EDIT: Also, pretty surreal to see ME3 getting such negative feedback. I've been wanting to talk about it, but I'm too afraid to venture in to the ME3 thread cause of spoilers. I can't wait to see what everyone is so pissed off about. I mean, it's got a 2 out of 5 on Amazon, I never would've guessed that would have happened.

Mass Effect 3 is 99% awesome, it's just that last 1% can be a killer.

Agreed. It's "people" trying to make a "statement", by spamming anything they can get their hands on.

As if Bioware should stop making games because somewhere between ME2 and ME3 they unlearned everything.

People are pissed about the ending. That's ultimately what it boils down to. They're right. But, I don't think the ending suddenly makes the entire game bad. That'd make no sense to me.

It doesn't make it "bad", but I can easily understand how it could "ruin" the rest of the game, or even the whole franchise for them. It happened to me with Lost. No matter how much I enjoyed the first five seasons, the last one left such a sour taste in my mouth that I just can't go back to it. At least not yet. Maybe one day.

Is the "From Ashes" DLC essentially of the same depth as Kasumi and Zaeed's?

From what I remember of the Zaeed DLC, From Ashes has more content. You have the initial mission, then a good on-ship talk, a few random non dialogue-wheel chats, and a scene on the citadel. There's also at least one mission where bringing him gives some great dialogue.

I remember Zaeed's just being his loyalty mission and scattered comments he would make if you bothered him on the ship.

Lately I've had to do the same, it sucks not being able to join a buddies conversation without be spoiled, but the extra money helps.

I'm waiting for price drops on both ME3 and KOA.

That doesn't sound too bad for 10 bucks. Plus, that is a pretty unique character you're getting along with it.
