First world problems, man.

Playing Resident Evil 5 co-op & really enjoying it (owned it but waited all these years for someone to play with on co-op). I still love RE story, characters and RE zombies have good variety compared to some other zombie games & tonnes of bosses. Can understand criticisms of the gameplay though, does get very crap in parts. Actually I'll just look for the RE thread.

5 is a fantastic game... 6 on the other hand.

Let's Look at the Big Name Titles Playable on Oculus Rift

A month or so back, I got to spend an hour with the Oculus Rift VR headset—most of which I spent swooning over Portal 2. Ever since that time I've been dying to get the Rift wrapped around my head for a larger chunk of time. And when that dream turns to reality, the question becomes—what game do I play?

According to RiftEnabled.com, a database of games and apps being developed to work with the Oculus Rift, there are currently 216 projects that have been announced (and there are likely many more that have never been added to the website). Of these, more than half have been released.

Many of these projects are small tech demos or proof-of-concept games specifically designed for the Rift. However, as you can see from the following list, there are more than a few big name titles that work (or will soon work) with the device as well.

  • AaAaAA!!
  • Assassins Creed
  • Batman Arkham City
  • Battlefield 3
  • Bioshock
  • Bioshock Infinite
  • Black Mesa Source
  • Borderlands
  • Borderlands 2
  • Call of Duty Black Ops
  • Crysis 3
  • Dead Rising
  • Dead Space
  • Dear Esther
  • Deus Ex Human Revolutions
  • Dirt 3
  • Dishonored
  • Dragon Age II
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • Fallout 3
  • Far Cry 3
  • Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
  • *Half Life 2
  • *Half Life 2: Episode 1
  • *Half Life 2: Episode 2
  • *Hawken
  • Left 4 Dead
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Mafia II
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Metro 2033
  • Minecraft
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Myst V: End of Ages
  • Portal
  • Portal 2
  • Quake
  • Quake 3
  • Slender
  • Splinter Cell 3
  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
  • *Surgeon Simulator 2013
  • *Team Fortress 2
  • The Witcher
  • Tomb Raider Underworld

Of the above games, however, few (those with asterisks next to their names) have been actually reworked by the game's original developers for Rift support. The majority of them support the 3D headset through the use of independently created drivers.

Currently, there are two of these drivers getting most of the press. The first is Vireio. It is free and regularly updated with new games. The second is VorpX. And while it supports more of the games listed above than Vireio, it is not available for free download. Rather, upon the release of the consumer model of Oculus Rift, VorpX will be released as a commercial product.

But as for my original quandary—what game to play when I next get some quality time with Oculus Rift—the answer is really a no-brainer: Dishonored, which I picked up at the Steam sale last week. I'm going to play that sucker for like 15 hours straight.

I've only played the 1st Act of 6 so far but this is making that look pretty bad in comparison. And I thought the reception to RE5 was very mixed? Like all the survival horror fans really pissed off with it & complaints about the controls. Given all that I'm loving it. It looks as good as many games out today which also doesn't hurt.

Are they games you've already played? I really don't have that problem. I think I could lock myself away for 4 years with the game collection I have and not get bored. Really get satisfaction from completing old classics that I've missed and making progress in clearing out that monumental backlog created by hardly playing games in my 20s.

I don't know how good it's going to be for games that aren't made for it but very excited for this product. Might make my home cinema system obsolete though (for solo use anyway). :woot::csad:

Are there any rough indications of when it will be released? Like soon/ages away? And I wonder how much it will cost.

I always said RE5 is a bad RE game, but a great co-op game. I finished this several times with a friend. And it's been a blast each time.

I loved RE 5. The complaints were mainly about bad AI and forced co op but the mechanics of the game were actually good. It didnt have the control issues, excessive QTEs and bad pacing which seen to have plagued RE6. Comparing it to the old games, old time fans rightfully didnt like the action oriented direction it went in as it did less survival horror but what it did, it did well and was fairly consistent. RE6 didn't know what it wanted to be and tried so many things, most of which weren't good. To be fair I haven't played it so I'm just repeating what I've heard of it. I thought 5 was a great game with or without the RE license attached to it

Yeah, playing co-op RE5 was fine for me. I actually had some fun. The series had already started it's descent into an action game with horror elements as opposed to a traditional survival horror series, so I wasn't as bothered by that aspect. I tried playing it solo one time, and found I did not enjoy the game playing as Chris with walking ammo box.

It's definitely very different to RE 1-3 & I can understand die hard fans not liking this as much. 4 I am yet to play, got my ass kicked on the 1st zombie lol. I think my tastes have changed along with the franchise as I love this alternative direction for it. Maybe it works better if with more than one storyline like RE6 (which would be good given how many important characters there now are) it has one that stays in strict survival horror territory and one more action oriented RE5 style. But aside from that the co-op with a friend is really good like you say. Don't think it would be that good with a random as you need good communication and sharing equipment/inventory to do well.

Oh yeah, I remember saying before the game came out that having a partner would automatically make it a lot less scary, and 10 times more so if it's a human player. Something about being stuck on your own in a RE environment where everything is decided by your actions or lack of, is what helped make those earlier games scary. So I understand those complaints and also the control issues & the relatively few QTEs so far although it looks like these are 10 times worse in RE6.

That said I love having AI co-op partners in games. I'm usually pretty good at using (abusing) them to my advantage :woot: & I think I usually give more of a **** about them than the average gamer. Probably would have restarted AC: Brotherhood if any of my assassins had died! I heard Sheva had crap AI but but she was actually holding her own quite well with me. I only replayed 2 early chapters solo though so maybe she gets stupid later.

So overall now that I'm about 80% through the game I'll say that I thought it was a great game in its own right that holds up well 4 years later, a great co-op game with a friend but very low on classic RE scares. The positives easily outweigh the negatives for me and I'm a fan of both survival horror & action guises of RE. Looking forward to getting through RE4 & 6, Raccoon City, & replaying Code Veronica (much of which I've forgotten) asap. How is Revelations btw?

Wait, you've not played 4? You need to get on that. It's available on basically everything now.

I never had an issue with Sheva either and thought her AI was decent but this was one of the complaints

I'm thinking of playing RE6 just for the experience and so I can have something valid to say about it. I'll look into it as well as Revelations in the future

Do yourself a favor and avoid ORC at all cost. That game is truly abysmal and worthy of all the hate it gets. Don't say I didn't warn you

Revelations is a Fun RE game you'll have fun with it. a little more could have been added with the console ports to make it more interesting and more of a world to Explore in. But it's still fun none the less but try it out for your self though when you have the time

and really you need to hunt down RE4. platinum games did master piece there.

I had fun with Operation Raccoon City. I acknowledge all its faults, but it's a guilty pleasure for me. I enjoy the aspect of being an Elite Team of Umbrella Operatives, during the RE2 outbreak. And if you can actually find 3 additional people to play with, it can be pretty fun. Alone it's not nearly as enjoyable, because the AI is truly broken. And enemy soldiers can take more damage than the undead.

I still hope they'll make a sequel to it, but have Capcom actually work on it. ORC's premise, with RE5's gameplay, could be pretty ace.

Maybe they can use the character's from operation / ORC in 7 if it ever happens too. that black male doctor in the army Special op team seemed interesting I wouldn't mind him and Rebecka working on a way to neutralize B.O.W.' s or have way to revet them back to normal and that army chick that took on the Licker can be used as an instructor in Leon's agency on how to take on creature's of the like . with out wasting too much time by not letting them grab you or how to get out of creature grips fast with certain martial arts strikes if your caught or to use the environment to your advantage in certain situations. kinda like when your unarmed, but have to deal with a shark just by punching the shark in the noise to make them let go/ back off. If you have no shark repellent.

I have it on 360 (download). I nearly got killed on the very 1st zombie of the game so I put it on the backburner for a little while lol. Only finally played RE5 as one of the many friends I've been trying to get to do co-op on it finally wanted to. Recently I've been getting all my co-op & multiplayer games done with my single player backlog getting more ridiculous by the day (I never stop buying games even when I'm not finishing anything!).

I will definitely complete the story for 6. 4 great games that I've played in the main series and many people tell me RE4 is the best. That would be a 100% hit rate across a very long period of time. They've earned a full playthrough from me even if it is a big disappointment and I need to see what happens to all these old characters from the series. I've played the 1st Act of 6 and I didn't find it to be that bad, liked Leon & Helena but did get enraged by some of the stupid QTEs. I don't really know anything about Revelations apart from it being a port of a handheld game. ORC I'm only really interested in for the 4 player co-op. I have a good 4 player team and it's fun to play pretty much anything if we can get everyone on the same game at the same time. But yeah, have heard some bad things about it!

I should play that before 6. Just want to get co-op RE games done while I can before co-op partner moves onto something else.

I'm expecting a horrible singleplayer game and an only acceptable multiplayer game. It wil be fun just to get all 4 people onto the same campaign game (who are all RE fans) as there still aren't enough games that allow that. Yeah I like the idea of being an elite team completely tooled up and just taking the action right to the zombies. Always dreamed of getting my revenge on those bastards without sneaking around a mansion between typewriter room sessions & feeling like a scared mouse.

I need to read up on the plots of the previous games as it was so long ago I played the 1st 3 & Veronica. Want to at least remember all the major hero characters.
