Another Superman suggestion: Wolfgang Novogratz. He'd be more your "jock" type Superman. He's 22 years old and 6 ft 2. I don't know how interesting an actor he would be in the role but he was in the movie "The Last Summer", where he played this kind of dumb, good-looking guy chasing girls.

This is why I like this thread. There are actors like Wolfgang Novogratz that I didn't even know existed that I learn about. Actually just read an interview with him where he said being Superman would be out of this world.

I didn't even know about that interview so I just went looking for it now. (I just saw "The Last Summer" and some of his YouTube interviews.) One of his fanpages already did a mock up of him as Superman because of that interview :funny:

He made the Superman comments to the Jolie Gazette. Also the interviewer at the Philadelphia Star said to him he was a potential Superman since he had the look of the late Chris Reeve. In some photos he looks a little young while others photos his youth isn't as much as a detriment. He mentions Hugh Jackman being a friend and a mentor. I see most of his acting credits are recent so he is on the rise. Never saw him act but maybe with some more experience he could merit consideration. Thanks for bringing him up.

Yeah I found the Jolie Gazette interview. He was in a documentary (that's partly shown on YouTube) when he was younger where he is training hard and serious about basketball. I would like to see more of his acting. He has starred in a lot of teen movies.

I was thinking the other day and whilst this may not be a popular idea, i’m gunna roll with it...
Superboy

Have a movie set in the 90’s so nostalgia plays a part, where it’s Clark Kent, as a 15 year old. He’s finding out about his powers, his alien heritage and he’s this nerd at heart and loving it.. he confides all of this in Lana Lang, takes her for flights - shows her what he can and can’t do... they basically say he is a super hero (comics exist in that world, let’s day Marvel for now). He calls himself the boy of steel and he creates an alter ego.. like Zorro! He wears non prescription glasses and creates this whole fantasy world/persona with Lana. He wears an S on his chest for “starboy” of smallville, He saves cats out trees, stops bullies in parks. He looks goofy (kinda) in his homemade suit, but it’s cool.. and he perfects it at the end with the help of his mum. The summer is obviously quiet, no super villains, no enemies, it’s just two kids having fun with powers and kinda being niave about it all.. smallville has this new hero and the word on the play ground is its ‘Superboy’. They discuss space, conspiracy theories etc and what it means going forward. So think Shazam! Wth Freddy and Billy learning about his powers, that kinda humour and tone.
Then Clark decides to cruise in the skies beyond smallville where he is at best an urban legend parents don’t believe.. he gets buzzed by a plane, news crew pick him up in the sky and there is a buzz around him.. this is where the military get involved and almost hunt him down - we see him evading jets and missiles.. then he is lured into an Area 51 type place after they (Sam Lane) take Lana. The third act is them escaping. I can go into detail later!

Superboy 2
The sequel is him laying low as a 19 year old - trying to avoid the military who are now after him. He goes to university in metropolis and has properly adopted the classic Clark Kent persona for his protection. Lana is back in smallville and they have cut ties almost - for her security as to not link him back to smallville.
Clark now has an interest in current affairs and trying to do his best humanitarian work - shooting on out to Africa to build schools in the space of a night.. bring water to villages, out in Russia, food to villages etc - he has no time for a metropolis social life and lives in a studio apartment.
The Superboy persona has gone quiet - a little older, a little wiser - the events of the first movie scared him, but didn’t stop him.
A space shuttle goes awol and destined to explode - if it wasn’t for Superboy who saves the day. The media go crazy saying that Superboy is back.
The military have changed tac and prof Hamilton is the bridge between the two, gaining “Superboy’s” trust.. where he shows them giants powers, he shares his alien heritage story(risk is where we hear about krypton) but the military were biding their time and sabotage the relationship and release their own man of steel.. metallo. A fight breaks out and it takes them in to star labs and across a city. Superboy eventually wins and makes a statement to the city and world - he js here to stay - to be earths protector, his name is Kal El but he is happy to be called super.. man!

Then pump out superman movies and then bring in super girl, clone super boy and basically use the same actor all the way through.

Think of it like spider man: homecoming meets Shazam. Followed by Spider-Man: birth right then full blown superman.

I think the kid angle in Shazam was great - as it was in Spider-Man HC, I just feel that would be a fresh way of reintroducing superman - giving us suoer teen and then organically showing us why he has he alter ego etc

I love the idea of this. It’s kind of what I wanted Smallville to be. Just a slice of life 12 part series about Lex and Clark growing apart.

Your idea reminds me of that Bumblebee movie. I think the first movie would need some kind of antagonist even if it’s just a corrupt business man. Something for Clark to need a costume to fight. With super speed he could save all the cats and never be seen.

Nice ideas. I like the idea of Superman being a bit younger this time around. I think that's where it's headed in general for DC. Just the tone and general approach. It would be nice to see more of Smallville this way, and Superboy, Lana, Pete etc. As well as his formative years as he travels the world. But this time not holding back being Superman the way he did in MOS.

Exactly.. think of it as Spider-Man: homecoming with a pinch of Shazam. The childlike wonder of superman - being a Boy Scout, the disguise, the suit, the way he is, we get to see it organically. The first movie he doesn’t quite go public but is more of an urban legend - the kids, adults don’t believe them.. obviously a few do but they get taken lightly.

Then the sequel starts life in metropolis as a young man and we see the step up building upon the superboy idea. By the end of the movie he is ready to be superman - keeps it fresh, let’s us see something different but still true to the character. I honestly never thought about superboy but I enjoyed aspects of Shazam and Spider-Man and the 90s/00 angle let’s us not be introducing him in such a tech heavy world. I think it will be a totally fresh view point and allow the tone to stay family friendly.
Tom Holland was 20 when he started and easily looked 15, it can be done!

I don't hate the idea in and of itself, but it sounds better as a mini-series than a film imo.

I don’t see why it can’t work over two movies - first being a super boy movie proper (where Clark has fun with his powers and makes a suit to be a hero and help those in danger in a naive way that exposes him to the nation and world where the military get involved, pa Kent encourages him to be a hero in spite of his powers) and the second a transition of sorts where he goes global to help those in need and at the end he is ready to be superman - just freshens up the S lore and not same old same!

If the Supergirl movie happens first, then that will likely affect Superman's story and his possible solo movie. His solo might be just just him or they could try to involve Supergirl. Whether these stories intertwine or not, they could still portray his earlier life, even in condensed form.

I like the idea of supergirl... I don’t like the idea of it being at the expense of superman as that’s a shame as the two would be great on screen... but I totally understand why, as he needs a bit of tlc which I don’t think WB are interested in.
I just feel exhausted trying to think up ways how they can move forward or reboot.. the silence is killing me lol

Whether Superman is or isn't in the Supergirl movie, if he should ever get his own movie then that is still the time to tell his story. It could show events before he even meets Supergirl. It could show him around the time he does debut as Superman. I just really like the idea of some more scenes of Smallville, like real classic comic book scenes. Not just jumping over it quickly but really taking time to show it.

Whether they move forward as is or reboot, what's most important is that they're trying to do anything at all! I just want to hear that.

Wouldn’t mind this, as long as it’s more Bumblebee than Homecoming.

Even though I like a lot of these fresh faces, particularly Wolfgang, I'm wondering if it may be a good idea this time around to cast a familiar face for Superman that's already known by audiences.

Let's face it, the Superman brand is dead right now. Audiences have no interest in it. It may be a good idea to cast someone like Zac Efron or Dacre Montgomery to immediately drive the interest and curiosity of people into a new Superman movie, someone that will immediately trend worldwide like Robert Pattinson did when he was announced as Batman.

Nah. That whole "not believing in Superman to speak for himself" outlook is the kind of thinking that got us into this mess. Make a good movie with a good Supes and people will respond. It really is that simple. The brand ain't dead.

Real talk tho, I miss Jean Dujardin. I know he was never into the Hollywood scene and is happy making movies in France but I always felt like Hollywood could’ve done more with him. He’s great. Oh well.

But yes, fresh face for Supes, please!!!

I agree, we really need to get a bit of good old apple pie, americana, where superman is just clark, with powers, we get to relate to the core character and again see how in the city, like earth, it's not his true hime. I'm not saying we need to do anything drastic, but let's use the surroundings also as a marker for what makes him tick. Going to and from the city to smallville in a two minute flight and him having a real social life there, with lana, pete, his parents, that lois slowly builds into and sees would be good, like an un masking of him for her.
