The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

David Corenswet was asked what superpower he would like to have and said one of the powers would be to have John Williams music play wherever he goes. You know what that means.

That Corenswet as Supes manip makes me want a new Superman movie right now dammit. I was even a fan of Cavill as Supes but it's time for him to bow out and move over. Corenswet has to be the new Superman!

Hoult is Hollywood’s next leading man.

If Hoult were Hollywood's next leading man, he would've "happened" by now. He's been in his share of big movies and hasn't really shown leading man quality in any of them. He's a fine actor, but he's not one of those actors you really notice and tends to blend in with the rest of the cast. Even in Jack and the Giant Slayer, where he was playing the lead titular character, he wasn't all that compelling to watch.

Also, to be honest I'd rather see an American actor playing Supes on the big screen again over a British one.

I feel like Cavill is the Craig of the supermen.

He was great at first, then a few weird performances and time moving along with no hype has made me lose interest, along with others it seems.

I feel Snyder presented Clark as too straight..... he wasn't fun, for me... that something that kept me engaged.

I don't hate Cavill, but that is an insult to Daniel Craig, who brought a lot to that role and got to star in two all-time GREAT Bond films. Cavill's more like the Timothy Dalton if anything. Had the look, but the material didn't do much for him, and at best would be considered wasted potential, at worst, completely dull (I actually like Dalton's Bond but I'm just talking the general perception).

Craig will probably go down as an iconic Bond on par with Connery or Moore. Neither Man of Steel or BvS mean to the Superman franchise what Casino Royale and Skyfall do to Bond.

It's personal opinion - i loved Craig at first and his performance in CR was great, then the movies after that let me down to the point i am not interested in him returning.
Cavill, the look, his work ethic, blew me away - i felt he was great but the MOS movie left me wanting more, so i was perfectly happy - BvS, JL let me down, time has past and i am no longer interested.

Dalton was great as Bond from the novels - people weren't ready for him.

Actually, maybe George Lazenby is a better example... looked the part, had the masculinity for the role, not so much the acting chops and only really had one decent crack at it then after that, forgettable/gone.

Actually, maybe the George Lazenby.
Dennis Quaid for Jonathan Kent.
I've thought about this, long and hard.. i would love his parents to be elderly to the point where Clark is running the farm for them and in like a 1/100 of the time and they just literally live their and Clark flies over and does what needs to be done in like an hour, compared to a week for Jon. Also, it's endearing that he i so warm and loving to them, these frail people that obviously mean well and have basically worked so hard all their lives.
So with that in mind..

Harison Ford - but embrace his age, don't edit out wrinkles like in star wars etc.
Clint Eastwood.
Bill Murray.

All look like men who are good men, raised their whole lives on a farm and never wanted to do anything else.

And for his ma, in order of who i can see them with

Susan Sarandon
Helen Mirren
Meryl Streep

It is interesting we’re all pretty much in agreement on superman but we haven’t discussed Lois yet. Is it because we already know the perfect Lois is Alison Brie?

If by "Alison Brie," you meant to type "Emmy Rossum" or "Rachel Brosnahan," then sure. ;)

Should have been Michelle Monaghan but I think that boat has sailed

Alison Brie would be great, and I'd be absolutely supportive of that casting. That being said, I think her time would have been with MOS and that ship has sailed.

Yeah I think it's time for some fresher faces for Lois. Not necessarily younger, but more unknown, or with a newer buzz about them. Someone like Rachel Brosnahan is a good example but Emmy Rossum and Alison Brie, (like criticisms levelled at someone like Nicholas Hoult) should've made it bigger by now, or are just not a big enough name, nor do they really have the buzz of an up-and-comer. I guess like Superman (and Batman) picks the ideal age would be late 20s and early 30s.

Only reason Emmy Rossum isn't bigger by now is because she's spent the last 10 years tied down to a TV show where she was regularly delivering a great, criminally overlooked performance. Not the same situation as Hoult at all. She's free of that show now for the first time this year, and can move on to bigger things if any franchise is smart enough to scoop her up.

Sorry I just don't think she is big enough. I think she is regarded more a mid-level TV actor and not a big name for a movie.

How about Constance Wu for Lois.

Also John Boyega for Jimmy. The guy has such infectious energy.

and Armie Hammer as Supes (Same age as Pattinson actually).

But who are we kidding. There's no movie on the way.

Unless/until something big happens, I think we won't even sniff a new supes film for at least 5 years ( maybe longer )
Sadly, He is not their priority now.

I was hearing rumblings a couple of months ago that JJ may direct one, but that front is just silence now.

I'm not expecting it now. I supposed their is still a small chance until JJ announces what his next project will be. Perhaps he wants to do something smaller, something original. But I think he is the only director that gets a quick greenlight on Superman.

Back in the day I used to fancast her and Evangeline Lilly.

I think it's important that Lois has fire in her. She doesn't need to be the most beautiful woman in the world, just attractive and intelligent. She has to have a quick wit and seem like someone who's passionate, funny, charming, and gets things done. Can be absent minded about small stuff at time as she's so focused on the big stuff.

Margot Kidder had it in spades, and I think Erica Durance in Smallville really nailed it too. And when I first sat down and watched Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, I just felt that Monaghan totally had those qualities.

Never got quite the same sense of them from Kate Bosworth or Amy Adams, as much as I like them both as actresses.

I was of fan of Erica's Lois. In general, I've actually preferred both TV versions as opposed to their big screen counterparts. Some of that has to do with the material and what it allows them to do. I always thought I saw more spunkiness in Amy's Amelia Earhart from Night at the Museum 2 then anytime as Lois.

Sigh. What could have been.
We could have had two more superman films by now.
A WF film ( or two )
A sequel to JL.
A GL film worth a damn.
New Gods.
