The Guns thread - Part 1

How does that go? "We didn't want people who told us it couldn't be done, so we hired people who had no idea what they were doing so we can do everything!"

I cannot believe the GOP suggestion is to put more guns in schools. It's insane. I will never understand this GOP mindset that a scared teacher in an maximum stressful situation is going to become Dirty Harry and be able to take down a gunman. It's far more likely innocent people will be accidentally shot.

I fully expect DeVoss to put forward we use Blackwater for school security.

That crazy NRA woman from their ranting propaganda commercials is already testy at the criticism she’s getting.

I'm catching up, so I'm excited.

Though the room exploding in applause when Rubio said he would have to ban all semi-autos is the moment of the night for me so far.

Banning all semiautomatic weapons. Yeah, that'll be the day. There's a better chance of America having some semblance of sensible health care.

I will say this does seem different. Usually it's just a disingenuous "thoughts and prayers." I think the NRA is actually nervous

Sure, because the shooting is in the narrative. Like every other shooting, once something else big comes up and takes over the nation's attention, we'll be back to gridlock on guns in no time. Would be odd that this be the time for the NRA, NAGR, or any other gun group to suddenly now buckle.

The GOP goes on and on about the 2nd amendment but that was written when a gun with the capabilities of an AR-15 would be a weapon of mass destruction that would wipe out what we had for an army back then. Its not something our founding fathers ever conceived of being possible.

Our gun laws need to adapt to the times we live in now. They need to adapt to the problems we currently face. They need to apply to every state, on a national level.

It's sad, but it depends on he kids. They have to make this stick. They have to keep it going.

I am encouraged by the rally in Tallahassee. And the various walkouts I am seeing. We will see how the March for Our Lives goes.

But, I am encouraged by what I have seen the past week.

And they know they are losing members. There may be reason they want Russian money...

It's not all that funny a joke, but even then assuming you're serious: how is that different to prohibiting guns?

You think the American public who feel they have a right to arm themselves are going to be cool with prohibitively-expensive-for-the-average-joe ammunition for said guns?

It's fantasy-land thinking. Not a solution, as it'll never get anywhere near enough public support.
Not to mention, one can buy a press and reload ammo, so I'm not sure how something like that would be monitored. Reloading is mainly done for recreational shooting as a have of avoiding having to buy ammo, but still, criminals could do the same thing.

...and out comes the tinfoil hat.

So i must now be a conspiracy theorist, to feel that there MIGHT be some over-arching organization to all this??
First off, kids legally are not allowed to rent coaches/buses to mass transit lots of people.
2ndly they are not authorized (last i looked) to sign up for holding a protest rally.
3rd, to LEAVE campuses in the #s they are doing, the SCHOOL itself would have to be signing off on it ALONG with the parents..

TO ME THAT certainly shows mass organization..
PLUS who the hell is paying for all those coaches?

Of course, not all the survivors are for total bans. But, I think a good majority of them are against the current status quo, and are for bans on certain types.

But, lets see how the generation shapes up with a couple hundred more incidents.

BUT then we get into "Who gets to decide what sort of guns certain folk can own?"

Because he's an idiot. :(

So is that congressman i showed 3 links for, ALSO AN IDIOT, cause he also supports ccw armed teachers..

I will never understand this GOP mindset that a scared teacher in an maximum stressful situation is going to become Dirty Harry and be able to take down a gunman. It's far more likely innocent people will be accidentally shot.

So your solution is to make YET MORE GUN Free zones, when the proof shows that most, if not a vast majority of these mass shootings have occured in gun free zones?

The GOP goes on and on about the 2nd amendment but that was written when a gun with the capabilities of an AR-15 would be a weapon of mass destruction that would wipe out what we had for an army back then. Its not something our founding fathers ever conceived of being possible.

So by that logic, since only ink and quill existed for 'free speech/the press', all websites, radio and TV news agencies shouldn't be covered then.

I am encouraged by the rally in Tallahassee. And the various walkouts I am seeing. We will see how the March for Our Lives goes.

If i was a parent, while i would be encouraged that my kid(s) were getting involved, all these mass walk outs make me wonder "SO When are they going to be required to make up all the lost time", and if the students miss enough time "Will they then protest to get the tests/final exams etc" moved BACK??

And they know they are losing members. There may be reason they want Russian money...

Got proof that the NRA is losing members?

So by that logic, since only ink and quill existed for 'free speech/the press', all websites, radio and TV news agencies shouldn't be covered then.

What I am saying is that we need to remember the words "A well regulated militia" are in the second amendment and adjust our regulations to the times we live in now, so that our militia is well regulated again. Instead of the mess that our gun laws are now.

That is what we need. Not arming our teachers.

And what i would love to know on all of these protests is WHO's organizing it??

Who got all the parents to sign OFF on their kids being taken (or let) out of school in this mass # day after day?

Who's paying for all those protest signs? All the buses to take them from point A to C? Filling out the paperwork for all the permits to have these large protests????

Okay, now that I have gotten over my initial reaction to this...

1) Social media makes it very easy to rally people around something as important as this, and I suspect you know this anyway but just want to "stir the pot". But if you really don't know, then that is my take on it...

2) Any decent parent would "sign off" on their child taking a day off to be a part of this rally/movement as it could quite literally end up saving their life one day.

3) Perhaps they made their own protest signs? It's not that hard or expensive. A bus is not that expensive. These are school students, I am guessing they have enough intelligence to fill out a few forms.

I am almost 100% certain you already realise all of the above, but just in case I am wrong. You are welcome...

Now I am probably feeding the trolls here, and I suspect you are a recently banned user back under a different name. Because your posts are uncannily similar to someone else.

Anyways, I am done here, for now...

Hey, don't even get me started on this :cmad:

Conspiracy theorists online have accused the survivors of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High of being paid actors who travel between the sites of mass shootings

I don't believe the answer is to arm teachers. Teachers are there to teach, not to take lives...
I also don't believe that armed guards or undercover police are the answer. At least not the only answer.

The first course of action to take is to have more in place to detect the early signs of the behaviour (with effective treatment) that could lead a young person to go into a school with a firearm and the intent of randomly shooting as many people as they can before killing/allowing themselves to be killed.

Most of these tragedies, end up with either the shooter committing suicide or getting themselves killed by the authorities.

So Trump then saying something like, these people will think twice if there are teachers or undercover police with guns. Would not work, as the perpetrator is intending/expecting to die at the end anyway.

Can the politicians not see that prevention is always better than cure? It is so damned obvious to me.

I believe there are a handful of schools in America that do have policies and procedures in place to detect the seeds of this behaviour and it is very effective.
Sorry, but I do not have any links to articles to post at this time.
