The Amazing Spider-Man 2 The Gwen Thread

If they are really going for MJ over Felicia then:

IMO, she should be an incredibly wild and free-spirited extrovert. The yang to Gwen's ying. Someone who, unlike Gwen, is from 'wrong side of the tracks' and appears to be the complete opposite of the type of 'sensible' and 'responsible' girl that one would expect a guy like Peter Parker to end up with. However, like Peter she had experienced a lot hardship and tragedy and that is what pulls them closer together. They become support for one another.

With regards to Spidey's battles, they should just leave her out of them completely in TASM3. The female lead doesn't need to get conveniently wrapped up in the final battle of every Spider-man film.

Also give her a great sense of humor. Like she could give Spidey a run for his money in the wisecracking department.

^ This 'Emma should play MJ' talk - joking or otherwise - is the kind of thing I was railing against a bit earlier.

Hard to believe fans actually thought she wouldn't die here :D

Nope. I continued the campaign of Redhead to Heaven 2007...plus seven years.

I thought they were going to cliffhanger it. As most sequels do…

I figured they would end the movie at a part where Harry injures Peter and swoops Gwen up. Then open up the 3rd movie with an EPIC battle with Goblin where Gwen is killed. Start the new movie with one quick punch to the audiences gut.

And go from there...

Would've been an odd note to go out on but oh well.

It'd be like what Jackson did with Hobbit 2. But I thought that's what they were going to do…

But its fine that they did it here. Gives 3 a completely fresh starting off point.

I think there's a big difference between the mourning process being over with him becoming Spider-Man again and being in a place where he's ready to date again without him questioning whether he'd put this new girl in danger. And with the Rhino cliffhanger, unless we get a time skip afterwards, I think him jumping into a relationship with MJ would come off really badly.

He's still crushed, did anyone else noticed his hair changed after the funeral? I thought spiderman talked slightly differently as well. To me, he came off as a broken man doing what was right for his girl, I don't think he's moved on.

He spent five months mourning Gwen and had stopped being Spider Man during that time. At the end, he finds the strength to be Spider Man again, but I doubt he is ready to start dating again. I think there needs to be at least a year time jump between ASM 2 and ASM 3.

Andrew is starting to look old so making him a little older is a good idea in my book.

I think the Gwen Saga should be three movies long, I think the aftermath of her death should be the centre of the next film, and they've got a perfect villian to utilise for this purpose in mysterio, bring Emma Stone back in the illusions. Mysterio has the potential for deep and menacing motivations with a glorious CGI fest tied in. No way should TASM2 be the last time Gwen's affects on spidey are shown.

I don't know why I didn't mention this earlier because it did cross my mind, but I wish that the movie hadn't cut straight to Gwen's funeral because I'd really like to know how Pete told her family about her death and what he said to explain it.

TASM took place in 2012. TASM2 took place in 2014. If the franchise continues this trend, then TASM3 will take place in 2016. Two years later.

^ There was not a two-year story gap between the events of TASM1 and the events of this movie; at most, there was a 6 month gap, although probably less. Most of TASM1 was set in the Fall, and most of this movie was set in late Spring/early Summer.

The first movie took place in the fall of 2012. TASM2 picked up the summer of the following year for graduation. If I'm not mistaken the rest of the film after Chinatown took place some time later in 2014. Foxx confirmed the jump in an interview.

Wasn't exactly two years, but I imagine that the bulk of the next one will take place in 2016 if the trend to keep the films present continues. They already skipped 5 months ahead for the aftermath.

^ If there was meant to be a year's leap forward following the graduation scene, it certainly wasn't explicitly conveyed onscreen, although it would make Harry and Peter's conversation when they're skipping rocks make more sense.

As far as TASM3 is concerned, there's something about how the film cuts off that leads me to believe that we will see the conclusion of the Rhino fight open TASM3 and proceed from there.
