Justice League The Hal Jordan/Green Lantern Thread - Part 1

Since this seems to be a hot subject with whether or not WB should get Reynolds to reprise the role or recast or use another Green Lantern. I thought this thread would be a good idea.

When all is said and done, we better get all these guys in time.

When I see that picture I think of the men in tights song from Robin Hood: men in tights

Actually you know what I would choose Garrett Hedlund to play Hal Jordan/Green Lantern and what inspired me to choose him? His performances in Tron Legacy as well as Troy and Four Brothers but also he can act too but also he has proven he can be funny and snarky too case in point his work as Hook in Pan

Do you reckon Guy still works though? I think he sort of fit in during a more fratboyish time in the geek community but between Hal's jockiness and more zany characters out there like Larfleeze is he even needed anymore?

I would just skip to baz or Jess really

I used to think that for movie purposes, it'd be better to skip on some of'em and only use the "most important ones" (which I perfectly understand is a matter of personal preference); but now I wanna see ALL the Corps, all of'em, and I'm sure they can write a legitimate excuse of why there are SO many Lanterns from this tinny little planet (2 Apokolyptian invasions down, Earth must be of certain "cosmic relevance").

The only thing I REALLY hope if they include all of'em is: 1) Take your time with it, we don't need 6 human lanterns on the first or even second movie, and; 2) I hope they change some of their nationalities; 6 lanterns from the same planet?? Okaaaaayyy, I guess; 6 lanterns from the same country?? Ok, come on!

I think anyone expecting the full compliment or even the majority of the human Lanterns any time soon or even thinking that's a possibility is setting themselves up for disappointment.

These films cannot ever possibly encompass all the various changes of characters and stores and continuities from the books. Certainly not with an output that for the foreseeable future comes down to films under 2 and half hours every two to three years. It's just not in the cards.

At best my hopes now are for getting Hal Jordan and John Stewart on the big screen and even then I would hedge my bets about getting both though I would be over the moon if they did that. I love Guy, Kyle and the rest but... They were never gonna be seriously considered in the first place.

Well, given that Jessica can be seen in the DCEU intro group shot, seems like they don't have plans only for Hal and John, though I agree they should build up the world first before thinking about bringing in more characters down the line. Have the movie focus on the GLs war with the Red Lanterns or Hal's feud with Sinestro, as well as John being the new recruit, then maybe in the sequel introduce Jessica as a new co-protagonist.

Her being in a generic group shot suggests nothing really. I don't want to come off as a meanie about this but...

Okay back when the CW Flash show ended with the FLASHPOINT cliffhanger so very many of the fans here went off on theories of a season long FLASHPOINT arc that would have repercussions across the CW line of DC shows with costume and continuity changes and the merging of the Supergirl show into the fold of the reality of the Arrow/Flash world. A lot was built up in fans' heads about what was to come. I was one of those that knew deep down all that was fanboy wish fulfillment based on nothing, and certainly not based on the track record of what had come before.

Okay, but the response will be about how there have been big ensemble super hero films and they had no problem introducing all their characters. True. But this is not a franchise like X-Men or the FF. In many ways it's closer to a Star Wars. The budget for this type of film is big. That is gonna cut down on the cast. Let's keep in mind also that frankly... Why would I as a fan both of the GLC in particular but films in general want a narrative of an intergalactic space cops where the majority of the characters are made up of humans? Isn't the hook the idea of being around all these other alien beings in the Corps.?

Finally... The flop that was the Reynolds film can't be ignored. What was a huge complaint about that film? Not enough time spent in space with the Corps. and all the various aliens in it. Why have another GL film that is Earth centric with a team of human Lanterns?

In my heart of hearts I will always wish these films were perfect copies of the comics but for host of reasons I don't think that is going to be possible in the near future even. Will I be pleasantly surprised if the GLC on film could include all the various Earth Lanterns? Sure. But I'll take a film that includes only Hal and John but takes place off of Earth and showcases the other alien Lantern for sure.

Agree with all of this. I love the Corps and after reading Darkseid Wars and Godhead, I finally got into Guy, Baz and Jessica and think they're pretty cool, interesting characters, but I hope we don't see them until a FEW movies down the line (GL done right could and probably will become one of the BIG movie franchises in Hollywood; Star Wars level, as plenty has said before me); I want a couple of good movies revolving around Hal and John and also exploring the Sinestro-->Hal-->John dynamics; Kyle having the "chosen one" role in the comics could make for an awesome story for a 3rd movie (he could be introduced in the second one) and...well, there's LOTS of amazing GL stories that could be adapted.

But the point stands; in a franchise about an intergalactic peace force formed by countless alien species, I want humans to be a minority and "rare" through the whole picture.

EDIT: Oh, and when Kyle and Jessica finally show up, make'em fully MEXICAN, not "mexican-american", but MEXICAN! (And Baz actually middle eastern, too) Us latinos need some superhero representation too :D

Why is it assumed that every character shown in the new intro will appear in the DCEU? It could just be a generic "Hey, this is the DC universe!" intro that could appear before games, TV shows and other media.

If not Garrett Hedlund I can see Boyd Holbrook as Hal Jordan

Yeah, I guess so, but I don't think most of those characters just happen to be there if they had no plans for them. By all means, when you see the likes of Solomon Grundy or the Anti-Monitor in the intro, I do get your point, but I think it's supposed to give us some basic idea of which characters we may or may not expect to see down the line. When we already know about Hal and John, and then we see Jessica, Sinestro, Atrocitus or Saint Walker there, I think we should keep that in mind. It's not like we have anything else to speculate about when it comes to the GL franchise in the DCEU anyway.

But yet the Lanterns are shown in the new DCEU intro so that looks promising

At this point I'd be happy with anything Lantern they come up with.

This is where I feel there needs to be some changes to the GLC rules, because as of now when broken down they are insane and make no sense. For example, 1 (sometimes 2) lantern(s) for each sector when there are 3600 sectors for the entire universe, that would mean that one sector would cover an insane amount of distance, civilizations, star systems, and space crimes for one person to try to handle that alone would cause them to go insane and make next to no difference in the grand scheme of things even if you lowered that down to 3600 for the entire Milky Way Galaxy that would still make for a stretch of space far too vast for 1 or even 2 beings to handle you’d need hundreds. So the first change should be instead of there being 2 per sector there should be hundreds per sector as I mentioned before fully explaining why you could have so many from one planet, as the same would happen with other planets. They also need to drop the seemingly 1 lantern to a planet thing and just give them beats in the way of stretches of space that they’d patrol alongside many others, because I’d imagine interstellar crime would be a much bigger problem and where all the important action would be anyways.

Better yet how about Kyle and Jessica come from separate Spanish speaking countries, Kyle can keep Mexico as he came first and Jessica can get somewhere else, Brazil perhaps.

I feel like we'll be lucky to get Hal and John. I'm not holding my breath for anyone else.

Brazilians don't speak Spanish but I get what you mean.

Agreed.

Agreed again.

Make Jessica Peruvian, the name is insanely common over there :woot:

And John can come from Africa.

I don’t know about that, being an American Marine is an important element of his character, one that informs a lot of his personality to take that away would take away much of what makes John, John. Also, making the black GL from Africa is a dubious choice.

I think the Injustice 2 design could look amazing in live-action, just change the mask a little bit.
