The Hal Jordan/Green Lantern Thread

Bradley Cooper does not fit any of the Flashes. He'd be far more suited to Hal Jordan. I'd rather he not be anyone, but out of the Hal or Barry, he's Hal all over.

how so cooper does'nt just play 1 character on film lol

he does have range

I'm fine with Reynolds coming back, but part of me hopes he doesn't just so I don't have to listen to people piss and moan about how much they think he sucks for the next 3+ years.

Posted these in the JL casting thread:

GL Hal Jordan: Sullivan Stapleton

GL John Stewart: Brian White

I like Ryan but he's not a better actor. I dont want him near this. I can put up with it if they change his suit and tell him to tone it down but i just dont want the connection.

John Stewart will always be the one that i want for JLA, but apparently the script has Hal Jordan.

Bradley Cooper would be better for Hal than Flash i agree. I really dont want him for Flash.

Not sure where the idea that Reynolds made a bad Hal Jordan is coming from...

The anti-GL hyperbole is ridiculous.

I could deal with Reynolds as Hal in JUSTICE LEAGUE, or another actor, but I wish people would stop obsessing over it this much, as if it has to be one way or the other.

I would prefer that Ryan Reynolds stays as GL.

I've defended Reynolds and GL to the death on these boards over the past year. But given that I think GL has been brought up in literally EVERY movie thread here whenever a movie is deemed to be bad (usually in a statement like, "Yeah, this movie sucked but at least it wasn't as bad as Green Lantern!") I'm just tired of arguing about it. That's why I'm cool with a recast because it would be a clean break and a way to (possibly) get people to shut the hell up about all of Green Lantern's flaws (which were nearly all the same flaws in most comic book movies, even if fans refuse to acknowledge them).

Why not? Because this is a movie, not a tv movie!! Lets not get someone whose film experience is limited to a cheap ****** horror movie

Because, of course, TV is icky-poo-inferior, and anyone who touches it gets infected, being unable to ever perform in the clean, pristine, superior medium of cinema.

:whatever:

The only reason TV acting is viewed as inferior, is because Hollywood wants to protect its own prestige.

Yeah, TV shows have really gotten better overall in the past 10-15 years because networks realized that you can tell a bigger story with a TV show than simply sticking with the same boring format in which every episode is essentially the same. Some of the best actors out there are working in TV right now (Bryan Cranston, Jon Hamm, Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Andrew Lincoln, etc.).

TV (AMC for example) has better acting than most actors in film nowadays. All you have to do is watch Breaking Bad and Mad Men.

My main concern right now is just getting to see more Green Lantern. The character has so much more potential than that movie let on, and I want them to redeem the character with another shot.

Here here!

People need to see a lot more movies, if they think GL is at the bottom of the barrel (like Catwoman, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, et al). It just doesn't distinguish itself from the other superhero origin stories, and it's terribly rushed. But Reynolds really wasn't the problem... if JL goes ahead and brings him back, I'd be fine with it.

If RR comes back and if he has a good role in the film, I think he can knock it out of the park. Just change his suit a bit (such as having him wear one instead of CGI'ng it on him in post), and have him wear a domino mask.

Yeah, if GL had been released around 2000 or so, I think it would be hailed as one of the best of the genre. Because it doesn't even come close to the "worst of" list when you consider movies like:

Batman & Robin
Batman Forever
Catwoman
Steel
The Phantom
Craptastic Four 1 & 2
Superman 3 & 4
Ghost Rider 1 & 2

And while some would rank it among the following movies, I would argue that it is better than all of them:

X-Men Origins: Wolverine
X-Men: The Last Stand
Spider-Man 3
Superman Returns
Batman Returns
Daredevil

Him wearing a new suit with different writers/directors? Yes, i would accept it. But i really want Man Of Steel to be the first movie of this new world. I dont want last years awful GL to be the beginning.

I like Batman Forever more just because it is at least more entertaining if you look at it as a comedy.

But Batman Returns??? You have to be joking. Returns makes GL look ridiculous.

Batman Returns had so many things wrong with it, I don't know where to begin. My #1 complaint is that (once again) it was a movie that was about Batman's villains, not Batman. Then there's the whole "throw any sense of reality right out the window and give Catwoman super powers" thing. And Danny Devito in an obvious fat suit. And Max Shreck, apparently so brilliant that he's managed to get away with completing nefarious acts throughout his evil career, yet after pushing one of his employees out of a window, he doesn't think then go and dispose of the body... lucky for him I guess that she was able to come back from the dead and walk away. And the ADMITTANCE that Batman is wearing a rubber suit (because rubber stops bullets in Burton's world), accentuated by Bruce Wayne ripping his mask off at the end of the movie like a head condom. And the whole disappearing eye makeup scene that preceded that one. And the fact that Gotham is literally a city of fools who would elect a sewer dwelling mutant as mayor in a recall election. And the penguin commandos... oh dear... the PENGUIN COMMANDOS.

Seriously, Batman Returns is a piece of crap.

LMAO!! I actually agree with everything you said. I had this argument on the hype a few months ago. Is it a ******ed movie beyond belief? Yes!

But not only for its time, but even now, it's still a very original CBM. It's unique amongst every other Batman or other superhero movie. The design of Gotham and the characters were amazing, and the acting on Pfeiffer's part was great. So was the score, it fit that version of Gotham extremely well.

Those are the positives. Even though the negatives outweigh them by a mile...trust me i think it's goddamn stupid too. It (imo) still makes GL look like the worst movie on the planet.

That might be a stretch, but there was nothing original or positive about Green Lantern. A couple of the actors were decent, but not decent enough to take notice like with Michelle Pfeiffer. Or the presence of Keaton (even though he was on autopilot here).

The score, design of the suit, the tone, bulk of the acting, the writing, the directing, the CG, even the concept behind making this movie was a cash grab ONLY. And none of the above was original or mediocre...it was all just awful. At least Burton had some artistic vision with Returns and did his own weird version of something.

I disagree that GL was a cash grab. I don't think they would have brought Geoff Johns aboard and went to all the trouble of introducing secondary characters and planting seeds for the future if they weren't at least trying to be respectful to the fanbase. I just think they were misguided in that they didn't quite know how to fit it all together. There were obviously SOME elements that were thrown in there for money (the Hot Wheels construct really sticks out to me) but I do think they were trying to make a good movie. Unfortunately, they bit off more than they could chew, especially with the CGI suit... which, IMO, looked really cool but it proved to be too expensive and as a result, they had to nix scenes that might have improved the movie.

As for BR... yeah, there are a few positives, but it's also an example of when a director's vision can ruin a movie. Burton wasn't interested in making a Batman movie... he was interested in making a Tim Burton movie.

True. It really had more in common with Edward Scissorhands and Nightmare Before Christmas than anything Batman related. But it's artistic, and it sticks out while GL gets lost with the rest of the terrible comic book movies.

I think Returns, loved or hated, will still be remembered because it has an identity. It's been 20 years and it's still memorable. Green Lantern is a year old, and this movie will not be remembered in 5 years. Especially once Justice League comes out.

I will not watch the film if they get second stringer John Stewart to be in the movie. But I'm almost certain that they won't so yay me.

So anyways I'm choosing Ryan to reprise Hal Jordan. Should things don't work out, I'm gonna go with Bradley Cooper or Ryan Gosling.

I think Ryan has more charm but Bradley has nicer teeth.

Bradley Cooper does not fit any of the Flashes. He'd be far more suited to Hal Jordan. I'd rather he not be anyone, but out of the Hal or Barry, he's Hal all over.

Disagree.

Cooper is perfect for Barry. He has great comedic timing. He admitted he botched Hal in the auditions for GL and didn't get the character. For this new version of Hal, I hope they give him a more serious and stoic personality like this; Link. Hal was always a badass to me. He deserves some dignity. Save for comedy for Flash or Guy.

Neither Barry Allen, nor Wally West are comedic characters.

Wally comes kinda close, due to his finding Barry's rogues ridiculous.

I dont think Cooper will go near a superhero movie. He doesnt have confidence in himself for it because he says he tries to go all Batman everytime he auditions lol.

Isnt he doing the Crow remake?? That might be the closest thing he'll get to a CBM.

Gosling is better suited for Barry Allen than Hal Jordan to me. Just how im seeing it.

Chris Pine would work for Wally West or Hal. But im not holding my breath.

It depends. I loved NPH's portrayal of Barry in New Frontier. Flash is always the lighthearted one of the group. He has to balance it out. I also want someone who's old enough to be believable as a Police scientist and who's name will bring in audiences. Cooper checks off all the boxes for Flash. And looks the part.

Isnt he doing the Crow remake?? That might be the closest thing he'll get to a CBM.
Nope. That's dead. He was disappointed he didn't get GL but he didn't understand the character. With Flash, he's basically playing himself.

It seems like there are a lot of factors that will make you "not watch the film."

Chances are, at least one of them is going to happen, so why don't you just give up now?
