I was like so many other people who had never heard of Hellboy; I had no desire to see the first movie. So much so that I didn't see it until it was on cable tv. And about thirty minutes into it, I remember wishing I would've seen it on the big screen. I thought the movie was absolutely great.

Anyways, with strong DVD sales and early glowing reviews, I think Hellboy II is going to open significantly bigger than the first and, despite stiff summer competition, will end up with close to double the gross earnings over the first one.

I'm predicting a $45 million opening, and $120 million domestic total.

ill predict around 40 million just edging out center of the earth at 36 mil

If it does better than TIH, I'll be very, very, very suprised.

50 mil shouldnt be that far off I mean its only going against that Brandon Frasier movie

I think itll start well, maybe even really well. But then competition will creep up and smash it, i hope it makes enough money for a sequel during that first week.

Im predicting: 45 mil OW
110 mil domestic

There's also that Eddie Murphy crapfest coming out. Not that it's going to be a better movie (or a "movie" for that matter, I don't think it has earned that), all I'm saying is...don't underestimate stupidity.

My guess is 30-35 mill OW then ending up with 80-90 mill...and then HUGE numbers with the DVD.

That's what my line of thinking was. It's going to open really big but then have a big second week drop (~55-60%) because of TDK. I think after the second week, though, it'll have decent legs and still make it past 100 mil.

$38 million opening...$110 million final tally (TDK will hurt its legs)

I'm curious about that second weekend, mostly because of the amount of pre-sale tickets the Dark Knight has sold.

If it's too hard to get into, Hellboy might get some of the spill-off audience. I mean, if you're already in the mood for a comic-book movie...

I'm predicting $150 million domestic gross for Hellboy ($320 WW).

The first one only made 59.6mil domestically. Even with the early good reviews I just don't think that it's going to hit big. I think that most people will think that it looks too weird. Personally I'd be surprised if it hit 40mil, I'm predicting like a 32mil opening and legs just as "good" as the first one. Hope I am wrong!

You could be right, however I think most people already thought that with the first one.... before they saw it. Since DVD sales and WOM were excellent with the first, and with Del Torro becoming more and more known, I think it'll open significantly higher than the first. We'll see...

I hoep you're right. Del Toro is one of my favorite modern directors, I I dug the first Hellboy. This looks better. hope it makes as much as it can opening weekend, because I see Dark Knight creaming it. I actually wish it was coming out in august and mummy was coming out next week like it was originally planned, because even though I like the mummy, I'd rather have a hellboy III than a mummy 4.

I get what you are saying but I just don't see it and think that the 45- 50mil opening weekend predictors are going to be just as disappointed as the TIH fans were on July 13th.

Hahaha! I think TIH fans were expecting too much from the general public in regards to forgiving the bad taste in their mouth. Five years isn't very long for a franchise reboot.

Anyways, Hellboy is 10/10 right now on rottentomatoes.

I'm predicting a 50 to 60 million opening for weekend 1. Journey to the center of the earth shouldn't be much competition because it looks like crap. This film should have no problem making it's money back with a strong opening weekend. It will probably end up around 130million. The sequel is inevitable.

No more than $50 million opening weekend.

No more than $120 million domestic total.

First - Hancock(Sony)
Second - HellBoy(Universal)
Third - the Dark Knight(WB)

Why do the studious decide to play chicken with each other? The following movie will take away from the previous. Marvel had the best date with Iron Man.

I think HB2 will take in $45-$50m in the first weekend because the following it gained from the DVD release, fans of del Toro and fans of the genre.

I bet Hancock will drop more than 55% this coming weekend and more than 60% when Batman opens. Likewise, Hellboy will take a huge hit with Batman as well.

Ah what the Hell, I'm going to have fun with this prediction. I'm going to predict 40mil for HellBoy. It's more of a hope prediction than anything else but I'm just going to go with it.

I hope it does well enough to be considered a success, Guillermo del Toro is an amazingly imaginative director and he's shown that when given the creative freedom he can make some kick ass movies. I wasn't a big fan of the first one but this one looks like its got the del Toro stamp of approval.

P.S. I hope to god this gets great word of mouth and has good legs cause I know TDK is gonna stomp everything at the box office.

I'm sure it will break 100 mil domestic and they should be happy with that.
Did anyone see Selma Blair on The Tonight Show last night? WOW... :)
