The HellBoy II: Golden Army Box Office Predictions

Oh whatever. Universal pushed this movie pretty hard. The trailers were all over the place. They had Hellboy doing little humorous TV bumpers. They had those impressive, huge banners all over theatres.

Not saying this never happens, but you shouldn't be trying to discredit Universal in the first place. Universal did a much better job of pushing the sequel than Sony/Revolution. They released like one trailer in the winter, and then like one more about a month before it came out. The marketing push was not there.

Hellboy better hope for a decent weekend because next weekend Dark Knight drinks everyone's milkshake.

Of course TDK will be huge, and of course it will absolutely kill everything, but Hellboy II will be just fine in the long run. As I already pointed out, this opening is going to be 70% MORE than what Hellboy 1 was.

I'm just surprised people here were able to keep their expectations in check for once. Most people predicted that it would receive right around what it will probably end up receiving, and so far no one is running around screaming "the sky is falling!" Good works, guys.

TDK will kill any movie that is out, I really feel kinda sorry for any of the films that are out right now. I really hope Hellboy does well this weekend.

If it gets a nice Saturday bump (15-20%) then it'll get right around $40 million. That would end up being about a 73% increase over the first one. Pretty damn good!

Cool, should make its budget back domestically if thats the case.

If it gets over $200 million or close to it, our sequel's future will be certain.

Well, there is this whole thing with Del Toro doing the Hobbit and Ron Perlman pushing 60.

I just got back from seeing Hellboy 2. Not quite as good as I expected it to be however, I enjoyed it a lot more than the first one. Overall, I liked the music for the film except the scene that shows the title of the film. I'm not sure why the original music for Hellboy wasn't used because I love the theme of the first film.

I guess my prediction range of 50 to 60million was a little off. 40 million for this weekend is pretty much guaranteed if the film does well today. The movie may have no problem getting past 100million domestically.

The main reason any movie like this does well on the weekend is because there are less people working who are free to view the film. I see it pushing $40 million this weekend or more.

After seeing this movie I'm amazed that anyone could have made it on a budget of 75million in comparison to a crappy looking movie called Meet Dave that cost 100million(not including marketing) and is on pace to make 10million domestically.

It always pleases me to see 20th century Fox get owned at the boxoffice. This must be the most pathetic box office grossing summer that company has had in 8 years. Their final two puny summer releases have virtually no chance at making much money.

Just under $14 million on Friday, more than twice the take of Journey To The Center of the Earth.
My guess for the weekend is $44 million.
It'll reach $100 million domestic easily.

Pretty damn good for a character the general public had never heard of til a few years ago.

.

Meet Dave stars Eddie Murphy.

Hellboy 2 has no big stars and was filmed in Hungary. That's how you save more money.

Ron Perlman is pretty known, and actually has a big fanbase.

Ron Perlman is a character actor basically. He's not a superstar. He's not really a movie star. By his name alone a movie cannot have a significant opening weekend, and that's a fact. However big you think his fanbase is, is irrelevant.

Okay, so what? I said he had a big fanbase....what the hell is your point anyway...or do you even have one?

Its about budgets. Someone was comparing this movie's budget which looked beyond what it cost to a movie like Meet Dave which cost $100 million or more.

I was explaining why. Hellboy 2 does not feature any big name, marquee stars or actors in it. It was primarily filmed overseas in other countries so as to save money. The guy behind it is an experienced writer, director, producer.

Meet Dave stars Eddie Murphy, which right there ratchets up the cost. And it was probably mostly shot in the US, which will make the budget go up besides being an Eddie Murphy star vehicle.

And then Savage Hulk said something about Ron Perlman being pretty known and having a big fanbase. Sure. But Ron Perlman can't open a big movie with a big opening weekend by his name value. He's not that type of performer.

So there's the point JP. War Hellboy II.

The other point is that Universal did a very good job of promoting this movie and made it look attractive to moviegoers unlike The Incredible Hulk which had a lot more problems with the marketing because of the 2003 movie, that the new marketing campaign did not fix.

Why the hell you gotta bring TIH into this when it's about Hellboy? TIH did well at the box office and Hellboy II will do fine as well. Both shall warrant sequels.

Eh, TIH is pretty much crawling to do about the same as the 2003 movie. There's not really any announcement on a sequel, when Iron Man's sequel was announced about the Monday after.

Hellboy 2 and The Incredible Hulk were both distributed by Universal. People have called into questions the marketing of both movies by Universal and insulted them. In the case of Hellboy 2, I think they did a good job of marketing the movie, much better than Sony did the first one. And I think that is part of why the movie got a much stronger opening.

To me, while I think it does need to earn more money, it is kind of pointless to compare the box office of two movies who have nothing to really do with one another. Going in Marvel knew what would happen when trying a reboot & didn't try to market TIH the right way. They didn't even release a trailer to about a month before the movie was ready to come about. I think it'll get a sequel, and unless marketed right, will do about the same as TIH, which I still see as a success.

Hellboy II on the other hand was handled pretty good, I guess. It's had a strong opening so far & I can see it making big bucks.

They are both comic book super hero movies released within a month of each other this summer. They are both released by Universal. They are valid in comparing. And people have already compared the marketing campaigns for both movies.

I basically see TIH as not a huge success but not really a failure. I think it should've done a lot better. And since you seem to agree with the points about the marketing of both movies, I see no reason why we can't address this.

Hellboy did not wait until just right before it came out for a blitz marketing campaign strategy. The first trailer came out last year. It was a very good trailer. Universal started doing those really tight, sweet character banners way ahead of time. For Incredible Hulk everything just came much later. With this crowded summer, I guess the idea was, after the rush of Indy, Iron Man, etc. just do a short sprint and that will get everyone in. Wrong. Then after Iron Man came out and hit it huge, the idea was to basically piggyback off that success and ride the coattails. Basically showing on TV that Tony Stark was in the movie. Unfortunately, Hulk was coming off of a movie very few liked, that's not enough to convince people otherwise. The results seem to prove this. It was not able to inspire people like Iron Man did. People LOVE Iron Man but think Hulk was just OK or not as good.

I was talking about comparing the 2003 Hulk with the 2008 Hulk.
