The HULK Thread

True, regardless. He should still talk and be able to hold conversation. Thats all I really want. I wonder if theyre gonna show Hulk in the first trailer or keep him underwraps until like the final trailer or something.

I agree Hulk should at least be able to hold a conversation. I don't want them getting to complicated with him talking in third person in a film where he won't get enough screen time to have it explored.

Would it be out of whack to consider magic being used to merge gorilla Hulk with Banner to create, if not Professor Hulk, then at least a talking one.

Whether it'd be permanent, only in Asgard, for a limited time etc would be open to discuss....

Please no. That would be whack.

Part of the the natural 'magic' of the Hulk/Banner dynamic is each one's struggle for dominance of their shared existence. Anything else is only further destruction of the character.

Marvel and Universal have done enough damage already. Hulk is Hulk and should never have been shown to have gorilla-like tendencies.

Actually the start of the "merged" Hulk in the comics was added by magic in it's way. Banner, who at the time was in his Post-Joe Fixit phase but still turning gray at night, was going cross country looking for Betty gets involved with some shenanigans that include Namor and Dr. Strange. Bruce thinks he and Hulk should help. Strange sets up a "conference call" via some astral magic and Bruce and Gray Hulk have a one on one psychic conversation. They come upon a huge door on the psychic plane of Banner's mind and wonder what's behind it. Later in the story it's revealed that behind that "mental block" is the Green Hulk personality, and in later stories they used this psychic plane as a way to see Banner interact with the two Hulks.

Could Asgardian methods be used in a similar way? I don't know but anything to turn Hulk from mute brute to a full fledged character would be welcome.

No sir.

Magic had nothing to do with the mental merging of Bruce Banner's split personalities. Peter David wrote Banner as having three distinct personalities. Bruce Banner = Super-Genious; Gray Hulk = Lustful, Cunning and Shrewd; and Savage Green Hulk = Impulsive. Brilliant writing really, as he showed the differences they had as well as the similarities. It was Doc Samson's "therapy" that 'supposedly' merged them in the Peter David written stories. I say 'supposedly' because 'Merged Hulk' was unstable. It was later retconned and ruined by Paul Jenkins who stated that the 'Merged Hulk' was only another separate personality.

Under Peter David it was suggested that Hulk's very existence was in someway intrinsically tied to magic, as some of his abilities are seemingly supernatural i.e. he can see ghosts and spirits, has an uncanny tracking ability, grabbing hold of intangible energy, he can locate the exact spot of the gamma bomb explosion that made him, returning from the dead by absorbing radiation (like any other supernatural movie monster), ability for body to adapt and breathe in water and out of space environments etc...

For now let's hope they stick with Hulk and Banner and get those personalities worked out. Let's give the Hulk some lines and an actual personality other than, SMASH!

Did you actually read what I wrote? I didn't say it was the reason but that it was the mechanism by which Banner and the Grey Hulk were able to have a "face to face" in the astral plane. As I stated magic "added" to the story by which the merged Hulk and the MPD idea David had came about. I didn't say it was the reason. Strange arranges a meeting of Bruce's personalities. All I was suggesting is that given the abilities of the Asgardians that you could have in the story a similar set up and Banner could talk to Hulk and Hulk could talk back and that as an after effect perhaps Hulk could retain some rudimentary speech ability and be more verbally interactive with people.

By the way the issues are these. Check them out and see what I was talking about in the first place.

Eh, still don't enjoy the idea of magic being involved in Hulks psch problems. Feels rushed and lazy.

I'm not saying it has to "fix" anything. I'm not even saying it has to be "magic" but some of us want a more verbal Hulk and would like to see the MPD aspect play out. In other words some want Hulk to be a character in and of himself that is WAY more well rounded than he currently is, three appearances deep now into the MCU. If you want dramatic build up, fine, but this film already has a lot on it's plate. I just want Hulk to be able to get across to the audience that he is a distinct entity and not just and angry and green Banner that can't talk.

He can and he probably will. I believe in that much. They won't waste an oppurtunity like this. I mean if they do use that idea to help Hulk talk better and be his own personality. The so be it, I've always enjoyed EMH's characterization of Hulk. I want a Hulk like that.

The important question is will Hulk still have his stretchy Avengers pants?

Yes, I read it clearly. Your first and your last statement in the post that I previously quoted you on is what I responded to. It does not support what you're suggesting I did.

I think it will also be nice to see Hulk in a fight with a being who presents a challenge to him. He has had it easy since Abomination in the MCU, so let's see him have a challenge again.

Gotta agree with you.

I am particularly curious how Hulk is worked into the story. Where is the hulk? How does extend up with Thor on a distant planet?

I think they should have talked about Hulk's disappearance more in civil war.

It's official both Bruce Banner & Hulk will appear which makes me wonder will see Hulk communicate with proper dialogue with Thor or will it just be roaring??

No doubt Hulk will speak a little. Hulk has learned some control. He's growing from being a rage beast. I never don't think I want to see a smart Hulk but a simple Hulk who is becoming something apart from Banner isn't a bad direction for the character.

Well I now am expecting Loki to try to enact some payback against Hulk.

Maybe Loki sets up some sort of gladiator pit where Asgard's finest fight the Hulk, including Thor (who somehow has to be unaware it's Hulk he's fighting and vice versa).

Though I do think it would be stupidity on Loki's part to willingly bring Hulk to Asgard knowing that he lost in a fight to Hulk the first time and that Thor and Hulk are allies that have worked together twice now.

Overconfidence in his brilliance is a Loki trait.

My guess: We will get a Planet Hulk nod with the Grandmaster forcing the Hulk to fight in his gladitorial games.

Loki tried to leverage the Hulk to his advantage once, maybe his arrogance convinces him that he should keep trying until he succeeds. After all, what is Hulk but a mindless beast ...

Thor is enslaved and sent there too?

Loki getting Thor sent to the Grandmaster's gladiatorial games would be a good way for Thor and Hulk to meet up and join up as a team, bust their way out back to Asgard and force Loki to surrender.

Valkyrie helps rescue them after seeing what Hela and Loki are doing to Asgard. Skurge is Hela's Henchie and is holding Odin.
