The Hunger Games - Part 2

According to the LA Times, Lionsgate has a list of seven or eight men whom they are interested in hiring to direct ‘Catching Fire’. However, only three were mentioned in the article as part of the shortlist: David Cronenberg, Alfonso Cuaron, and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

I think the LA times made a mistake saying that Cuaron recently finished production on Gravity.
Seriously if he's finished with the movie , why the hell havent we seen anything .
He's deep into post. and considering that Gravity opens November 2012 , i doubt if he's going to be available for the hunger games sequel.
Lionsgate wants to start shooting in August.

francis lawrence seems more realistic

Bennet aint gonna happen since his new movie Foxcatcher begins shooting on October

I can see Francis doing it. He's a weird director because deep down, I think he's super talented but not that pro-active enough to make more ambitious or personal projects.

i did'nt see water for elephants but i remember the visuals and set designs looked beautiful

It was alright but the book its based on wasn't really that great so the movie suffered. The first half of I Am Legend is just amazing so I look forward to what he does with Catching Fire

The director of I Am Legend taking on a movie with only three months of pre-production? Call me skeptical.

The first one making bank may have very well destroyed the sequel.

i dont see why these studios are rushing these YA adaptations

we are getting a sequel to the widely popular TDK 4 years after it came out

not hurting its appeal or hype

so why are they rushing a HG sequel

would a 2014 release date be so bad

The mentality of striking an iron while its hot. They're probably afraid of losing audience interest if there's too long of a wait. I mean Twilight is gonna churn out 5 films in 5 years and its worked well. So if it works it works.

One could say they don't want them to grow too old (Harry Potter) but that makes no sense.

Lawrence is the best compromise for this situation. he is not a director with an ugly cinematography,he knows how to shoot very fast and he has experience with movies.

trust me we got lucky.yes of course he is no the best choice. but he is good enough. Lawrence and her acting talent will do the rest. ohhhh and i only know realized that they have the same name. Lawrence directing Lawrence heheheheh

Yep. As soon as I saw his name added to the list, I knew he would be the one to get the job, b/c A.) He's the only one I didn't care for, and B.) He's the only one who would agree to such a rushed production.

I don't have high hopes.

i do have hope the script is good since they had a good screen writer not to mention the author suzanne collins collaborated with the writer

Yeah I'm not sold on Lawrence. Here's hoping, but for now I'm skeptical. Not a huge fan of I Am Legend at all.

well I enjoyed the heck out of constantine and I am legend but water for elephants from what my wife told me was terrible and left so much out from the book. I know this wouldnt happen but how hilarious would it be if robert pattison was casted as finnick and could really show off his acting skills with a capable director and much better leading actress in Lawrence to play off of?

ok, i'm scared for the sequel now...
I guess it depends on how much control he has over the content of the film...hopefully not a huge amount of control or he will bastardize it.

Im not too scared about him if collins is again a co writer to make sure the story remians in tack and the right beets are hit. My main worry is the rushed schedule, First class was rushed and it was great but who knows. I would have no problem waiting til march of 2014 if it meant we got a great sequel.

Simon Beufoy is writing the screenplay so I'm sure the movie will have great script. Jennifer Lawrence is Katnis, so she will be amazing once more.

I won't speak mutch about the director. I'm sure he will do fine.

Jennifer Lawrence....Francis Lawrence?

CONSPIRACY!!!!! :awesome:

Yeah, but X-Men 3 had Ian McKellen, Ellen Page, Kelsey Grammer and Patrick Stewart, and those good actors did not save the movie. :(

I am not a fan of "I am Legend". Never seen "Water For Elephants" and I hated "Constantine".

Kind of worried about this sequel. I just finished the book for the first time a few days ago, and thought it was excellent. Lot's of stuff to cover. Part of me wants to be optimistic, while the other part of me is very skeptical. :csad:

Lionsgate was rushing the production way before Ross left the sequel. They already have a script ready, it's not like with X-Men 3 or The Wolfman where the replacement directors overhauled the script in only a few weeks. Now, getting location scouting, building sets, and casting new roles -- yeah it's rushing it. But the script and the cast are locked in, so that's good on that front.

F. Lawrence is a decent choice. He picks really good cinematographers, and he can turn out a decent movie with the right script. I'm sure Jennifer and the rest of the cast will do a lot of heavy lifting, though.

Lawrence isn't exactly a hack. He's more than serviceable. He works well with actors, is a solid director, and tends to make solid films, though I haven't seen WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, but CONSTANTINE and I AM LEGEND were very decent movies, albeit flawed. I thnk it's a solid choice. The safe one perhaps, but probably the only one that was realistic. He could do a good job.
