The Hunger Games - Part 2

For some of the old heads, remember when he was directing music videos?

he could do a good job, but he needs to do a great job.
Ross failed as a director in the first movie. in emotional parts that are important to the story he shaked the camera where he had a close up on Katnis. a failure IMO. Lawrence doesnt shake cameras in close ups.

i can see Lawrence giving Jennifer bad direction. but this role is her baby now. so no problem.

I disagree. Ross made me emotionally care about these characters and brought an authenticity to the events that was intimate and believable. In short, he made me buy into an absurd concept and invest in the characters. The shaky cam was an aesthetic choice to show the violence in a PG-13 level. Don't expect it to vanish. I did think it worked marvelously well in the scenes at the beginning in District 12.

In any event, it's unsurprising as Ross has made (or written) films that pack emotional punches--Pleasantville, Seabiscuit, Big. All I've seen of Lawrence is the very forgettable Water for Elephants (pretty visuals, I didn't care about the characters or their story though) and I Am Legend. The latter of which was a great concept that made for a really mediocre Will Smith star vehicle.

Perhaps Lawrence will do better. But he hasn't made a film as good as Hunger Games yet (much less Ross's better films). So, he has a lot to prove with this movie.

'' to show the violence in a PG-13 level.''

i watched the movie. i know that he used the shaky cam when there was no violence and action. in dialoge scenes.

Constantine was an extremely well made comic-book/super-hero/supernatural-horror film.
The CG in IAL was dodgy because of the rushed schedule(they tried using real actors for vamps and scrapped the idea, hence rushed CG), but CG in Constantine was phenomenal, he has a great eye for visuals and action, the scenes depicting Hell were probably the best depiction yet onscreen.(yes, i have seen the real thing)

That dude Captain Logan, who does the sh movie reviews on 'superhero rewind', and is what i would say is an expert on the genre, put Constantine in his all time top ten superhero movies.

He could do a great job, even with a rushed schedule. I think they are lucky to get this director.

That was partially to make it not seem random, but create a a natural aesthetic for throughout the film. It also created a sense of intimacy and reality that, again, I thought worked great in District 12. It pulls you right into the Reaping and hooks you. It also pulls you into character moments like when she says good by to Lenny Kravitz or the scenes in the cave. Rue's death.

I can understand not liking how when they were sometimes running through the woods (like the fireball scene and the dogs chasing them at the end) it became confusing, but overall it worked very well.

Personally I really liked the shaky-cam in the calmer scenes, like in the beginning. Worked incredibly well with the grainy and stark photography.

seems like some of you think HG had no flaws and was the perfect movie lol

No. I just didn't think shaky came was one of them. I think it could have been longer and developed the survival in the games in more gritty detail. I also think the violence could be more disturbing as the subject matter could dictate. But I feel those were the natural limitations of demanding a PG-13 2-hour film for this story. I also didn't care for how it didn't end with resolution, but rather what kind of felt like a cheap cliffhanger, but I haven't read the books. Even so, I thought a better ending could have made this a stand-alone film.

HG as a movie had a lot of flaws, personally I just don't think shaky-cam in the calmer scenes are one of them.

Was really hoping Cauron was going to do the sequel, so I'm pretty disappointed. That said, I think Francis Lawrence could do a great job. He's shown some serious potential in Constantine and I Am Legend, but some worrying stupidity also (the theatrical ending of the latter should have never happened.)

I was really worried for the next film when i read about Lawrence as the director. There were so many interesting posibilities on those lists...
I really haven't read the books, but I loved the first movie, and plan to read the books soon.

But with the same creative team behind this one, I think Lawrence could do a good job. Let's hope he focuses on the story and not only on visuals.

Also I agree, why do they rush this one? It's a fact this will make tons of money, regardless of when it's released.
A two year gap would be ideal. There's only 3 books right? It's not Harry Potter...

Yeap only three books but four movies since they're going to split the last two.

Well, they could film those back to back. I still no understand the need to rush them. A nyways, as long as they are as good as the first one everyone will be happy. I'll keep my fingers crossed :woot:

I loved the movie so much that yesterday i bought the first book. I finished 2/3 of the book and it is amazing too.

I thought Constantine was alright. It's the only movie of Lawrence's I've seen so far, but maybe he can deliver with Catching Fire.

See? well it seems this is exactly what people wanted and they got it. People kept complaining about something as trivial as shaky cam in a film about kids killing each other in a PG-13 movie and something that could easily be fixed in the sequel. Ross got everything else right: pacing, pulling out good performances from actors, mood, art direction, etc and all that is thrown out the window because of shaky cam.

Now we have the director of constatine and I am legend...oh great :whatever:
Well I hope it turns out all right

Ross is not out because of the shaky cam complaining. and again noone is complaining that the shaky cam was durring the action.

acting like this is our fault is an insult.

I love it when people blame people on message boards for insider Hollywood ****. Newsflash, Holly doesn't care about what we think one way or the other because every time they have tried to cater to nerds the movies have tanked or under performed greatly.

Ross is off of this project because he felt that he didn't have enough time not because people rightfully hated the shaky cam that was even used in non violent scenes.

So debatable, I don't even know why you wrote it that way.

There are plenty of people who complained about shaky cam for the action scenes. Plenty. I don't see how you can say 'no one' is complaining about it when I have read otherwise. The major complaint for shaky cam has been that people supposedly couldn't see anything. In non-action scenes, the camera shakes, sure...but its not like you can't tell whats going on unless you have some serious damage to your occipital lobe.

Also I didn't say its your fault or any fan for that matter but multiple complaints about how you should be replaced because of shaky cam certainly does not help your case when you are in negotiations to return. I can certainly say Ross is a much better director than Lawrence...I mean Constantine? Really?

i did'nt find anything wrong with Constantine i thought it was a solid fun movie
