I thought it was ok.
I never read the books, so things did not make much sense to me, like how they could make things out of nothing (fire, fireballs, falling trees, Dogs).
I am assuming they were in some sort of "stadium"
To me (and I am sure a lot of people) I thought this would take place in the outdoors, no outside interference. This sort of ruined the movie for me.
Its cool, yeah they were in a simulated outside arena. In the book residents of the capitol would actually vacation in old arenas and revisit areas where tributes were killed and even do reeactments. They interfered alot to prevent viewers from getting bored that watched from the capitol and outlying districts. I remember the book saying this way tributes couldnt hide for days and leave people with nothing to watch. Hence stuff like with crane created the fire to push them together and fight.
I also did not like the "shaky" cam.. oooo its shaking.. it means more action.. well really just means headache for me.
This is my one complaint overall. I mean it was worse at some points then cloverfield. Like you were running with a box on your head with 2 holes cut out and you barely the action while you were running by.
And lastly all I could really think about is how it has already been done and IMO done better (Battle Royal).
Heres my thing and its in no way a bash at you but Im sure youve heard people say this movie rips from battle royale and even running man to an extent but about 75-80% of hunger games fans and even me never heard of a chinese movie til this came out and hit big. I wonder if this movie had bombed would people still say that stuff? I mean star wars blatantly borrowed from the hero mythologies that have been in countless movies and even flash gordon but noone seemed to care there and just said ok.
