The "I am SO SICK of all this talk about recasts/reboots/revamps/re-whatever!" thread

i hated it and i am an xmen fan...too many inconsistancies

Look up the name, then Comics & Movies. You can also find it on YouTube.

I Googled him. It's pretty funny. I never expected Foamy to sound like that though. He's kinda like NiGHTs from Sega. I imagined him as a mute, so when he(she?) talks it sounds weird.

My response to this thread title: Yes. I certainly am sick of hearing Hollywood executives talk about reboots/revamps/recasts/reloaded because of all the properties out there, they have to stick with one. Why does Fox suck at making comic-book films? Because they're obsessed with Wolverine (or on Rothman's end). ---- the other properties! If it's successful = make a sequel. If it's mediocre = make a prequel. If it's terrible = destroy franchise, restart. Hell with that. If you want successful franchises, hire good writers. End of story. Most of the remakes/reboots I hear about nowadays are ones that are not there to give us something new... But, to add "more" to the originals. That's what they did with 'Friday the 13th'. And, I'm sick of it. Get some fresh ideas, Hollywood! There's loads out there if you even have the nerve to open up your window. Want a fresh new movie? Ask yourself questions that you've never heard before. Why does the window squeak when I open it? Why does the Earth rotate? Why does the cat outside stare at me? Ask yourselves questions and expand upon them. There's your originality.

You forget that Hollywood doesn't live in a logical world my friend.:cwink: What you say is spot on, but the sad thing is that too many fans like to take whatever Hollywood is giving them with a smile. Hell you even have some fans that ostracize other people for not liking Hollywood's lack of originality. I was called(this happened on another board for the record) someone who hates the Friday the 13th franchise because I hated the remake. The people calling me this had never seen a Friday the 13th film until Jason X, while I've been watching them since I was a kid in the 80s. These people love their remakes, and they hound you for hating the fact that Hollywood is basically doing the same damn thing and selling it at a higher price. Then you look at things like Transformers. I'm not bashing anyone that likes the movie. Far be it from me to do so. But what's sad is that people who love the movies acknowledge the same thing that people who hate it do. Everyone basically acknowledges that there isn't much substance to it's high style, yet people go in droves to see it. If people go see style over substance, then Hollywood is just going to keep taking the easy way out. They know people will go see whatever is popular, so they just rest on their laurels. The problem lies with both the fans and Hollywood. We just need more people thinking outside the box all around.

Oh, I know. It's all about teh money in Hollywood. Money, money, money. Now, I may have had my problems with some of the bad films from the 70s, 80s or 90s. But, at least we had really great films to overshadow them. I remember really bad films like 'Black Sheep' and 'North' that we all hated together respectively. But, all of a sudden, now we're supportive of ----ty movies like 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen', 'Friday the 13th', among a plethora of others, that are just flat-out moneygrabs? Just great. I hate the people who say they "love" these films. But, not because I hate them as a person. But, because they were the obvious target for this kind of movie. And, what target are these guys a part of? "The Guys/Girls Who Would Accept Anything That They've Already Seen Before".

It's really embarrassing, for me, reading/watching reviews for movies like 'Transformers' where the person reviewing has nothing but praise to offer the film. "Oh, this film may have it's flaws. But, it's fun!" Yeah. Okay. How many times have you said that for a particular movie? I'd guess that most of them were released around the late, late 90s to the years beyond 2000. I hate hearing that from people, "it was fun". I'm sorry. But, do you guys have no tastes at all?... I know a bunch of people to a point where it's sad to know how much they would like a movie like 'Transformers' over movies like 'The Wrestler' or other original films. What would they call these movies? "Ahh... It wasn't that good." Give me a break. These guys are suckered into liking whatever the hell Hollywood has to churn out.

But, really, that's no surprise. These movies that they like are advertised to them and they know it. Why do people praise 'The Dark Knight' so much? Because that was the movie that was advertised to them and it was actually something completely fresh and compelling. And, they loved it. Good for them. But, why did they all like it so much equal? Because it was advertised heavily towards them. Billboards. Trailers. TV Spots. Posters. Product Advertisement. The list goes on. It's ridiculous. The target audience has a mind. But, too bad they don't have enough of one to consider a bad movie from a good movie.

Preach brother Jon! lol I loved The Dark Knight, but to me it wasn't the best movie ever like some think. If someone thinks it's the best movie they have seen, then more power to them. That's their opinion, and they're right about it. But when every person shares the exact same opinion, then you have to question how much their mind has been warped. I can understand how someone would think the world of The Dark Knight as a movie, but how could everyone see the exact same thing? That's what hype and emotions will do. What's funny is that I worked with people who didn't even care about The Dark Knight at first. I mentioned that the sequel to Batman Begins was coming out next year(this was 2007), and some people were like, "I'm not into that type of stuff." Then after Heath Ledger died they were like, "OMG Heath.....you were so talented. So young..." These people couldn't even name three Heath Ledger movies, yet they were so saddened by Heath's passing as if he was their brother. Funny how they couldn't stop talking about how they couldn't wait to see The Dark Knight the next weekend. Not surprisingly they thought it was the best movie ever, and that it changed their movie watching lives.:whatever: These same people talked about how sophisticated a film like TDK is, and that it makes everything look bad.

Fast forward to this year. Transformers! Now these same TDK fangirls and fanboys are telling me that I need to stop thinking and go see Revenge of the Fallen. It's soooooooooo much fun! Like you said Jon, they excuse every flaw in the movie because it's fun. If that's the criteria for judging movies, then we should love everything that comes out, thereby ruining all of our opinions. This is why some people get upset when people bemoan all of these remakes. They're tuned into liking whatever Hollywood gives them that they get mad at people for wanting to see something different. I still can't understand why people love remakes. You know what's going to happen already, and the only thing you're getting different is a new cast, quality of film, and some ******ed twist for the hell of it. I don't know why cinema is the only medium that remakes are so prevalent now. If all the people in music just did old songs with a new baseline, people would get tired of that really quick..........okay probably not.

To an extent, I agree with you Jon, however.

Every time you eat, do you always order the finest cuisine? Do you only go to the most expensive restaurants with the highest rated food? When you buy clothes, do you only buy the most expensive, best made, and most fashionable clothes? When you read, do you only read the classics, or best reviewed books?

The answer of course is no. Sometimes you want a hot dog instead of the fine dining, the cheap cut off t-shirt instead of the designer suit, or the newest sword and sorcery novel instead of a classic.

Sometimes people are just in the mood for big budget action movies. A movie that doesn't make you think all the time and has really cool special effects. And yes, it IS fun. I don't always want to watch the latest Oscar-Winner, because I'm not always in the mood for an emotionally intense movie (as Oscar-winners usually are.)

And I'm really getting tired of people bashing TF. It's a movie based off a kids cartoon that was created to promote a toy line. The cartoons weren't exactly examples of oscar-worthy writing here people. If you're going to rip on the movie, you should rip on the cartoons as well, because they were
just as cheesy and poorly written as the movies were.

Foamy rules. I guess you expected him to be mute b/c he doesn't have a mouth?

Yeah I guess so. I saw his pics before, but never knew that he had a web cartoon. I'm used to it now, but I expected him to have a different voice. I expected him to sound like Stimpy at first, because I thought he was one of those kiddie types. Then after finding out that he was an adult product, I expected him to sound like Ren.

And Infinity, the thing with the TF bashing is simple. It seems to me that everyone agrees that Bay's Transformers is mindless fun. The difference is if people like mindless fun or not. It seems that a ton of people love it, but a ton of people hate it too. I really don't care about the Oscars, so being Oscar worthy is irrelevant to me since I put no value into the Academy awards. My problem with movies like Transformers is that it's not just mindless action, it comes across as really dumb. After watching the first movie, I thought it was the one of the most ******ed movies I had seen in awhile. But the people who dragged me to see it absolutely loved it. To each their own.

Haha. Thanks, mate. However, I honestly try not to preach in my posts. But, sometimes I just continue on-and-on with my typing because I become so invested into what I, myself, or others are talking about.

Anyhow, I completely agree with you. Remakes all together just really need to stop. You want an idea? Imagine the person on the exterior of the events of one of your favourite movies. Personally, that's why I hated 'Terminator Salvation'. It was uninspired. It was mediocre. It was nothing new. I wanted to see characters from the exterior of the 'Terminator' franchise have leading roles in 'Terminator Salvation' because, in the end, John Connor should be a symbol of hope and imagination in this future. This is a man who, I believe, should remain an unknown figure in this future. 'Terminator Salvation' could've got John Connor right. But, they didn't. His character was uninspired and didn't have no depth whatsoever. Of all the things we learned about him from Reese's speeches in 'The Terminator' and of all we learned about him as a child in 'Terminator 2', they could've at least transfered some of that into this "so-called" John Connor from 'Terminator Salvation'. But, instead, they decide to take the easy way out. They decide to just simply give us some minor references to the originals, and that's it.

Here's my point. If you're going to make a sequel, prequel or remake. Do something new. Give me something fresh and original. Perfect example being 'Terminator 2'. That movie (alike 'Aliens', for that matter), had the balls to not just give us another generic sequel like the 'Die Hard' sequels. This was a sequel with a simular premise. Only they flipped certain things around to diversify things and give us something fresh. They changed the mood, the characters, the action, the effects. Everything is simular, yet different. Cameron had an idea with the first. He didn't quite have the full-amount of money to pull it off. So, he pulled it off to it's fullest potential with 'Terminator 2'.

Maybe people like me bash it because we say that it didn't deserve a movie, in the first-place. I'm happy you're a fan of the movie. But, try to understand where I'm coming from here with my points against bad movies, in general. 'Transformers' was a fun film (the first one). It had it's moments. It was alright. However, 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' was a sheer step-down in class. Not to mention, filmmaking. Michael Bay... I've had a problem with this guy ever since 'Pearl Harbor'. Here's a guy who gets paid 75 million dollars for a movie like 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen'. I understand that filmmaking is a job. I get that. However, what the hell ever happened to talent in some of these filmmakers? Apparently, it just wasn't there (for some). Michael Bay is a hack. He is the worst filmmaker either of our time or all-time. He's all about publicity. He's all about the money. He's all about others telling him how "good" he is.

Personally, I think it's pretty sad that filmmakers like Steven Spielburg are willing to back up these kind of low-class scumbags. It really does offend me as being somebody who would one day love to become a filmmaker. It certainly does offend me with knowing that these guys have all the money in the world, and yet, they'd rather just earn more and more and more than the amount they've already gotten for themselves. Ugh. Sad days, sad days, sad days... What a shame.

I don't care what people have to come up with to defend this film, because really, all they got to say is that "they think it's fun". Good. Good. And, good. To hell with having movies immerse us into compelling new worlds. No, me and my friends all need to have a fun time with watching a dumb movie. Well, if you like hanging out with your friends so much. Why don't you take them, or yourself, out to do something that won't cost you or your parents $7.50 or beyond. You'll be surprised by how big the world really is beyond your bubble. You just need to wake-up and realize that.

well the hack's movie did just earn Paramount a crap ton of money

Maybe Spielberg sees something in Bay that you cant and on this I tend to side with the guy who made many big movies over a guy on the internet posting

I think you are taking this all way to personally. Sometimes I want to eat steak and lobster, sometimes I want to eat a hotdog and sometimes heaven on earth is a grilled cheese sandwich...thus is the same with movies

...I don't even want to argue with you. This is your opinion. And, I can't argue with it. All I can say is that the two are far seperate from each other to comparison, in my books. But, again, that's your opinion. However, don't tell me whether I'm taking something too personally or not. I'm not an idiot. I know that what I'm saying or typing is how I feel. If you don't like it. Fine. But, don't tell me that I'm taking it too "personally", fella. I'm on a message board, and I'm expressing my opinion. If you can't understand that in your world, don't bother me.

I know we can agree on one thing. The power of the dollar rules the movie world, and what sells will be popular. Some of us will like some things, and others will dislike what some people like. We'll have cool debates about it, and afterwords we'll sip some cream soda(since I don't drink lol) and have some Cool Ranch Doritos in brotherhood. Then when aliens from a planet across the galaxy threaten our debate teams, we'll form up Voltron and go to work like the badass earthlings we are.

You mentioned that you were offended that Spielberg was backing this guy. Hollywood is full of people who are famous who shouldnt be...and nature makes sure that they dont get to big. Now if the guy that brought us Jaws, ET, Indian Jones, Close Encounters, Amazing Stories, Private Ryan, Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, the Color Purple,Gremlins(producer), Back to the Future(producer), Goonies,Who Framed Roger Rabbit(producer),Honey I shrunk the kids(producer), Tiny Toons, Animaniacs,Twister(producer),Men in Black....to name a few thinks that Bay has talent than who am I to disagree????

I form the right arm:woot:

I haven't seen Transformers 2 yet. So I don't think I can be counted as a fan. I was taking up the issue when you said it annoys you when people say "they're fun." Well, really good SPX are fun to watch. Sometimes you're just in the mood to watch a no-brainer action movie.

Just like sometimes you just feel like a hotdog instead of expensive cuisine. I don't want every one of my movies to be an Oscar-winner, because I'm not always in the mood for that type of film.

Like I said, when you eat, do you always buy the highest quality food? Do you always buy the best designer clothes? The truth is, sometimes you just feel like going with the value menu.

Just like sometimes you just feel like a hotdog instead of expensive cuisine. I don't want every one of my movies to be an Oscar-winner, because I'm not always in the mood for that type of film.

And yet, the only value of trash like 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen' is that you'll be paying $7.50 at the counter when you could easily go out, rent from a video store and watch it at home with your friends or to your own pleasure.

Now, I can't argue with your logic. Again, like you said, it's like cheap-food. I have my views on the topic. There you go. I respect your opinion. And, thank you for respecting mine. :word:

Hey, no problem. And I get what you're saying. Transformers isn't exactly the best piece of film making out there.

Never watched it. Just about eny time I watch anything on Adult Swim I can feel a brain cell die.

Do you watch the Boondocks Chris?

Season two was a little bit of a disappointment. They should've focused on Huey more. I'm hoping that McGruder realizes this, and focuses on Huey again while introducing Caesar from the comic strip.
