The "I am SO SICK of all this talk about recasts/reboots/revamps/re-whatever!" thread

The fact is the studios that control the properties can reboot them for any reason they want, even something as simple as not getting along with the director and there isn't much you can do about it.

THat doesn't make it right.
I'm half hoping the new Spidey will be garbage, just to teach the studios that rebooting ISN'T always the answer.

We're too quick to want to redo stuff these days, that's the problem. Superman '78 had flaws, but it was the definitive live action version that Donner created, and no one dared touch it until at least like three decades later.

I agree. Even though they should of rebooted the movie franchise in the 1990s.

same here, but also for the fact that those who want the reboot, who apparently KNOW it's gonna be amazing for it to kick them in the ass with it too.

It can be a piece of s**t and still make millions (check Transformers)

I'm still surprised they're rebooting Spider-Man at all. I wasn't a big fan of #3, but it's not like #3 was Halle Berry's Catwoman. #3 just needed to trim off some of the fat. I was willing to wait & see what Raimi had in mind for #4.

While I do agree that we've gotten a bit reboot happy in light of the success of the Nolan Batman films, I think the whole not touching Superman in cinema had less to do with the 1978 film being "the definitive live action version" and more because too many of the creative people at WB didn't know how to approach the property. There's more to Superman than the 1978 Donner film.

Rebooting has really become the new catch 22 but personally I'm thrilled for a new vision of Spidey on the big screen.

For me personally, this latest Spidey news has moved me from someone who was simply sick of hearing about "reboots" to being someone with an intense hatred of them. ;)

Just about the only exception I can think of is Batman Begins, which was needed.

My sentiments exactly.

The funny thing is I believe that the few nerds who hated the orginal movies are going to get screwed even harder by the new one.

Make no mistake, whoever Sony gets to direct the next Spider-Man movie will just be used as a yes man. Sony will be directing the film and that type of flick is rarely anything to write him about even if it is decent.

I predict that Twilight and the Batman franchise will have a big influence on the next Spidey movies. I can wait till Taylor Lautner is cast as Peter Parker! That last line was a joke.

I think that this reboot business is going to be a disaster. I could but wrong but I wasn't wrong about the Jay Leno show tanking so...I could be right too.

SONY, IT IS TOO SOON TO REBOOT! THE FIRST MOVIE CAME OUT IN 2000 AND F**KING 2. SERIOUSLY?

If this movie fails, even the haters will crawl back to Raimi, who make him out to be the devil. All they complain about is the lack of quips and... cheesiness. Something Spider-Man has always had since its beginning with Lee and Ditko. It had this dorky humor that was perfect for Peter.

And suddenly like venomvsspidey said they are all expecting this to be good and better than the past films. No guarentees. I don't want this to be bad, it's a waste to make a bad comic book film, especially when it's your favorite comic book hero. But they're all expecting this to be good already, with their wish lists lined up. They could still be disapointed. Maybe not.

Doesn't make it wrong either, depends what they do with it.

I'm not sure this is the best idea, but that's what going happen. Hoping for bad movies out of this is kinda silly.

Oh well, at least Raimi can focus on making horror movies.

third-ed :cwink:

I want to go on record to say that I support rebooted franchises that have one of two things.

-Enough history for it to make sense. If you're dealing with a property that has decades of stories that can be adapted to the cinematic format, it makes sense to have a reboot down the line once the current series has run it's course. Iron Man will eventually get rebooted after the current series is done. He's got 40 years of material to work with, so there's always something to adapt to screen. They just have to make sure not to rush restarting everything. I'd say let Iron Man lay low for 8-15 years. Then start it up with a different take on a different story in his comic past. The same can be said for other long standing properties such as Star Trek, Star Wars, etc.

-The second thing that I feel should require a reboot is the potential for future stories. Sometimes there can be more stories told with the same protagonist. There was a point in making a Terminator 2, because you could then show John Connor growing up to be the hero he was prophesied to be. You could have more Predator movies, because the creature from that movie was part of a species of aliens that hunted for sport. When there is more stories that could be told, a reboot could make sense to do. When it doesn't make sense is when you take franchises that have run their course, and the main character or characters have little potential. Jason Voorhees' only purpose is killing people. There isn't much you could do besides that, and after having his ass in 11 movies that should have been it. But there is always money to be made, so we got a ****** remake that is getting a highly probable ****** sequel because there are people who will go see it. When that's run it's course, we'll get the re-remake of Friday the 13th in 2022. People will go see that **** too. I know it makes money, but I'm asking for creativity. People will go see Megan Fox taking a dump for 2 hours if you advertise it enough, so why not make the actual movies people see creative and fresh instead of unoriginal ripoffs?

Right. I hate the idea of rebooting Spidey right now at least, but nothing I write or say will stop them, so I'm hoping for the best. Hopefully, since Raimi is still involved, it won't be too devoid of character.

But Trek didn't reboot until ten movies down. After it was passed to a second generation. Just like Bond.

The problem is, do we really need Iron Man's beginning just because a movie doesn't do well? Can't they just make a new movie with a new actor and keep the nebulous void of these is all the same character like Bond? The only reason Bond and Trek were reboot was because the public image of the characters weren't any good. Bond had become a stereotype of himself and Trek was nerd fantasy. No one thinks Spider-man sucks. They said the third movie did. Every franchise will have a "Voyage Home" or a "Tomorrow is not Enough." They can't all be Goldfinger or Wrath of Khan.

How many super hero reboots have there been?

Err... 1 official one. The Hulk was a sorta pseudo reboot. So how can you be sick of them?

Listen, well read... these new Spidey films will not delete Raimi's films from existence. You can still have them and watch them.

These new films are just a fresh start for a new vision.

And the FACT is, Raimi was not perfect. And anyone who thinks he was needs a ****ing slap. No director is perfect, even Hitchcock or Coppola.

All this talk of "Well I hope the reboot turns out crap! HAR HAR HAR!" is ****ing PATHETIC!

You call yourselves Spider-Man fans? Or Raimi fans? No true Spidey fan would want a bad movie made about him. And you guys are hoping for it? Pffft.

See, I liked Spider-Man 1 and 2. 3? Not so much. It wasn't god awful. But if you honestly don't think it wasn't a step down from the first 2 you need your head examined. Now, SM4 was shaping up to be another SM3 or even worse, for a multitude of reasons.

Now what do you want as a Spidey fan? Another mediocre effort? Or the POSSIBILITY of another Spidey film reaching the heights of SM1 and SM2?

Me as a Spidey fan? I am gonna keep my copies of Raimi's first two Spidey movies and enjoy them. But I am also going to keep an open mind and see what happens with these new movies. I will certainly not hope that movies about one of my favourite fictional characters turn out crap because of some illogical hate of the word "reboot" like some of you so called "fans" are hoping for. I honestly can't believe that. Instead of keeping an open mind you immediately don't like it and actively HOPE they turn out crap.

Yea, true Spidey fans! Bravo! Bravo! *spits on the floor in disgust*

This is what I've been saying to everyone in the Spidey forums. Great minds think alike

We don't need a reboot for Iron Man because a movie doesn't do well, but because the actors are too old to perform the same roles. That's eventually going to happen, and Iron Man has tons of stories and characters that can be adapted for screen.

the thing is where do you stop. say the new spider-man movie sucks (its possible) do you reboot again? liken it to harry potter, say HP3 was rubbish do you throw out the stars and start again from HP1? no, you'd move onto number 4.

they've been building dylan for three freaking movies, name mention in 1 and appearances in 2 and 3 and I for one am PISSED I will not see THAT lizard on screen.

these reboots are out of control, I can 'understand' it for hulk, daredevil and FF but spidey is a 2.5 BILLION DOLLAR franchise (not included video, dvd and blu) kids have literally grown up watching this incarnation of spidey.

of course I want the new one to be a success but I also wanted sam to redeem himself after the shambolic SM3. after (imho) he has made more good spider-man movies than bad spider-man movies and his second iteration is my second favortie superhero movie of all time.

Yea Raimi's Spidey movies are a multi billion dollar franchise.

Which indicates this reboot isn't just about money. If it was just about money they would of released SM4 no matter how crap and it would of still made money.
