I didn't "give" them to anyone. I put the keys in his room, the landlady's husband asked me where the keys were and I told them I put them in his room. Then he started driving it around everywhere and now they left it in Tampa I assume. Like I said they think some BS they wrote into their weird ass lease allows them to do this which I know isn't legal at all. But I'm worried that since the cops have my name as the guy who the car was released to that it's gonna come back on me somehow, no way in hell am I taken a grand theft auto for someone when I didn't do crap. I don't need a felony on my record

The whole reason I got worried about this situation now is because she and her husband and kid got back tonight and the car wasn't with them. I asked where his car was and she said that is none of my concern. Seeing as how the car was released to me I feel it is my concern, llike I said I'm not catching a charge for anybody

im just saying they can't just come take someones car. why would they even be looking for his car keys?

they wouldn't come into your house, ask you where your fridge was, and go take dinner.

as for you getting in trouble... go get the keys back or call the cops for them stealing your car if its been released to you.

Anne Hathaway is amazeballs. That is all.

Well the "landlady" is one of my roommates here, she lives here with her husband and 2 yer old son. She takes care of the house which is owned by her mom's boyfriend. The house is technically some type of facility for tax purposes and when you move in here the "lease" you sign says you are a guest here and they can make you leave at anytime as well as something about if you leave property here they can take it. I'm fairly certain this "lease" is BS and def won't hold up in any court. People have rights and regardless of what you sign if it's not legal it doesn't mean jack. I can't call the cops because then I will most likely get kicked out and I don't have the cash to find another place right now. I'm cool with everyone in the house so I'm not worried about getting screwed over, I also have plenty of people that can come get my stuff should I be hospitalized or anything which the other guy doesn't have.

I'm just trying to figure out if I am liable in anyway since the cops wrote my name down on a piece of paper and "released" the car to me by parking it in the driveway and handing me the keys. I don't feel I did anything wrong since I put the keys in his room. I was asked where the keys where and told him they were in the owners room. I did not give him permission to take anything. I just want to cover my own ass because I damn sure don't want to get roped up in a grand theft auto charge which is a felony.

Does anyone know anything about law here? Here is the situations, for those of you who remember one of my roommates had a mental breakdown, the cops were called and he was baker acted and sent to the psych ward at one of the hospitals. What worries me is the cops released his car to me and I told them to park it in the driveway since I didn't have a license. I then put his keys in his room. He was taken in a 72 hour hold but still hasn't showed back up at the house. The landlady cleaned out his room and said he isn't welcome at the house now and her husband asked me where his keys where and I told him in his room. Ever since then they have been using his car like theirs and now apparently they gave the car to the owner of the house who dates her mom in Tampa.

What I'm worried about is being liable for them basically stealing his car if he calls the cops when he gets back. I looked up the abandoned property law in FL and it says you have to wait 5 years and report it to the state which I know they didn't do. Also when I moved in here they make you sign this weird agreement/lease that says you are a guest in the house and technically work for the house (which is some type of facility legally) and I was told by her somewhere in that it also states they can take your property if you leave it. I don't think that thing is legal at all but they seem to think it is.

I haven't said anything to them yet because I don't want to cause problems but I also don't want to be held liable for the theft of this guys car. I also think they way they are treating him is really f***ed up.

So does anyone have any advice on this?

For reasons like this I don't give anyone access for one of my possessions, or the knowledge they desire to access it, I fear something like this might happen.

Isn't this a segment on Fallon's show? They turned it into its own thing?

By the way, Anne sucks.
Pretty much, but she does not. :argh:

So nanabooboo and whatnot.:o

Sounds to me like the landlady's responsible. I don't care what state it is THAT is stealing.

Not to mention taking advantage of a situation & abuse of power.

Yeah, I would think if your friend brought them to court for his car and whatever else he would probably win.

There are some idiot's on the Hype and I mean truly idiot's.

You give an opinion saying "I'd like this to happen" unlike others who always say "This WILL happen" like they know what's going to happen in a movie. It's frikin context people.

That's what I'm thinking too, but they think because he signed some BS lease/agreement they can legally do this which I'm sure they can not.

Yup and it's not like this guy just took off, he is in the hospital because of a mental breakdown.

I don't think he would even have to take them to court, the title is in his name so if he calls the cops and says they took his car that would be grand theft auto. I'm worried sice the cops technically released it to me that I may be held liable in some way even though I do anything wrong, that's what worries me.

Do you think this friend trusts you enough to believe you if you tell him it wasn't your fault?

Well he was my roommate so I'm not sure we are really at friend level, def acquaintance. And he is filipino so I'm more worried about him coming home and finding out he got kicked out and all his stuff including his car is gone and then him just accepting it and not doing anything about it. He's not really a trouble causer and I'm not sure if he is familiar with the laws in FL. I really don't think I can be held liable for anything since I never gave them permission to do anything, they just took his keys and did what they wanted. If the cops get called I can just tell the truth and say I put the keys in his room and was asked where they where and told them. It's not like I was taking the car out for joy rides or anything.

I also find it disturbing that they would do this to someone considering that guy has lived with them for about 4 years. Sadly he doesn't have any family or even friends out this way to look after his things for me unlike myself.

If it was released to you and someone else has taken it maybe you have some obligation to report it. Not much more the state can expect you to do.

People don't care about other people like we used to. Seems like it's all about what you can get from them or how you can screw them over. :( People make me sad.

Because we all used to hold hands and sing Kumbaya in the past...

These guys aren't normal people. Sound like outright crooks.

I dunno. Even at work I get more and more annoyed with the small back handed things people do like leaving little messes and using up supplies without replacing them. Small things to be sure, but annoying. Like they are the only folks in the world and who cares about the rest of us. :( I must be getting old.

Don't worry Squeeks, plenty of decent people left in the world. :yay: I was trying to get on a train the other day and there was a massive middle aged dude blocking my way who I thought was about to give me some abuse but he moved other people out of the way to make room for me!

Nice. Glad to know we're not all doomed to rudeness. :p
