^Agreed that Bonzo was the next greatest drummer of all time....behind Keith Moon. :D

Those guys are okay, I guess. I mean, they're no Danny Carey, but they'll do.

Come on people... Everyone knows the worlds best drummer is Animal....LOL

I love keith. He's who inspired me to become a drummer. Both fantastic

Eh. I don't like Danny Carey. Technical Profesciency isn't the only thing that makes a drummer great. I prefer the soul and groove of bonzo, and the explosion of moonie. When listening to music, I don't want it to sound like the drummer is trying to solve a complex math problem with his sticks lol

I think of Danny Carey as Neil Peart with added power. Go listen to the last minute of The Grudge. He rages. I love it.

Still love Bonham and Moon, too. They're all great.

If you think Carey has no soul to his playing you're sorely mistaken. He has a very musical & natural way of playing and is always playing to the song. Very tasteful drummer, furthest thing from a "chops only" guy.

All I need is some David Gilmour on a guitar solo or some Jim Morrison vocals and I'm a happy camper.

Danny Carey IS an advanced Neil Peart. That's how I think of it as well. But for me, technical skill only get's you so far, and I personally will take soul and feel over technical skill.

Listen to achilles last stand by zeppelin, for me anyway, it's not just the groove bonzo plays, it's the WAY he plays it, that's what made him great.

Though, in my opinion, Danny Carey is the best drummer in the world right now, and would probably be in my top 10, but in my own rankings, bonzo is in a tier of his own, then moonie, then evryone else

Like I said, I think he's a better version of Neil peart. and while yeah, he's not, soul-less..but not rock drummer, in my opinion, has been able to duplicate the power AND groove that bonham played with. Be it a simple beat, or a complex beat. It's not just what he played, its HOW he played it.

Look at tool's cover of no quarter. It's bad ass. I personally like it just as much as zeppelin's. And for me, Danny's drumming on it simply doesn't have that raw groove in it that bonham's does

Obviously how hard you hit a cymbal, or a drum, effects the sound it produces, and to a very small extent, the pitch. He somehow knew subconciously what worked for each note. He didn't just play each note. He played each note exactly how he envisions it, each note sounding slightly different, adding this feel, and swagger to his playing. They way he made thhe drums swing, while being pretty damn loud, for me, it's just so tasteful.

I am a guitarist as well, but when I learned how to play drums, I havent touched a guitar in like, a year.

but back to the topic lol

I was born in the wrong freakin era. A lot of my friends like bands today, rise against, blink 182, and it kills me to see them all pumped to go to their band's concerts. I will never get to see any of my favorite bands in their prime play live, and it's sad.

my bad for not multiquoting guys lol topic of drummers gets brought up and I got excited lol (any mods, feel free to merge these if you want)

Yeah I hear ya, wrong era of music for me to live in as well. Even though I do also love Blink182, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and a ton of other bands and solo artisits from the 20 years I've been alive as well. (secretly love me some John Mayer, Jack Johnson, Dave Mathews Band, and Eminem to throw a rapper in there)

How much do you guys think iron man 3 will make opening weekend??

I got lucky (if you can call being older lucky). Pink Floyd came to Raleigh for the Division Bell tour when I was in high school and I got 14th row seats. They opened with Astronomy Domine! David Gilmour is the real Slow Hand. Clapton needs to stop calling himself that. :o

Geez. I can't wait until we get some more Iron Man 3 news so we can start discussing Iron Man 3 in this Iron Man 3 thread again...

yeah my dad's told me stories of seeing them live a few times for Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall I believe. Closest I came to seeing them was when they did the Live8 Aids concert thing on TV as an entire group a few years back lol.

Sorry for the non IM3 related talks, I see people are getting frustrated about it lol. Carry on

The Junior Novelization comes out in two days! Can't wait to see how the plot plays out - I'm still giving them major kudos because from what I can tell the trailers only show the first thirty minutes and minor snipets of what comes after which is surprising this day and age.

Really? I think it'll beat the other two IM movies, but I can't see it getting anywhere close to Avengers numbers.
