The Joker Thread - Part 1

Look at who they've cast in the past... Nicholson - Oscar Winner, Ledger - Oscar nominated, Leto - Oscar Winner, Phoenix - Nominated, guessing they will find an actor who has some awards pedigree/artistic credibility but isn't already a superstar, seems to be the pattern except for Nicholson who was a huge name upon being cast.

If Joker is going to show up in The Batman sequel, I would pay attention to the supporting actor/lead actor nominations over the next few years as they may pop up there beforehand!

Driver.

That's a pretty strong possibility I'd say, at least to be on Matt Reeves and Wb's radar. Only points against that is he was just committed to Star Wars for the past 5-6 years so maybe he wouldn't want to be a villain in another franchise, but who knows?

Adam Driver is going to be an actor that in 5 years we'll look back and say "how did they get him a Star Wars franchise?" (if not already)

So I don't think he'll be up for another franchise or big film anytime soon, I think he got his filling from Star Wars lol (which, btw, I think he'd blow all previous iterations out of the water if he ever landed in the role)

I agree on the possibility of him not wanting to be tied down to another potential mutli-year/film contract, but if the script is the ****, like you said, who knows? I can definitely see him being on their radar though. Joker or Scarecrow come to mind for Driver.

And Leto...and Phoenix....

The idea that these guys weren't A listers when they were cast simply isn't true. Even Heath Ledger, while young, was still a well established actor with fairly big movies under his belt.

10 Things I hate About You - Was the big heartthrob
The Patriot - Played Mel Gibson's son
A Knight's Tale - Was the star of the movie
The Brothers Grim - Co star of the movie alongside Matt Damon
Brokeback Mountain - Co star of the movie in which he received an Oscar nom
Cassanova - Was the star of the movie

He was also in fairly acclaimed movies in I'm Not There and Monster's Ball. So while his casting as the Joker may have been a surprise, people did at least know who he was.

Well, wasn't Nicholson an A-lister too?

To be fair, Phoenix was headlining his own film, Nicholson and Ledger were the lead villains in their movies, and Warner Bros. had plans for Leto's Joker even after the negative reception. The Joker in the Reeves films, if he does appear, could be a secondary or even minor character.

How did that rumour even get started? As I recall Jett propagated it a lot but it must've originally been either been some rando who saw Four Jacks (the main aforementioned obscure Australian movie) and decided to start a rumour or... I don't know, Lachy Hulme's agent/brother/cousin/nephew/general associate.

He reportedly actually had a meeting with Warner Bros. executives. But Nolan said he only ever wanted Ledger. I don't know what was going on with Hulme supposedly getting a meeting at Warner Bros, unless that was BS. I don't remember 100% anymore.

The only ever wanting Ledger thing is a bit of a fib too, since pretty much every one knows Phoniex turned down Dark Knight.

I've been hearing that a lot recently, wouldn't happen to know where this rumor comes from? I don't doubt it, just curious.

Lmao, was Nicholson an a-lister? These children will be the end of me!
Hey man don't do me like that. I've seen One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and of course I've seen The Shining. I just kinda sold poor Mr. Nicholson short and I'm sorry

I'm curious; would you guys consider Joaquin a dirty/messy Joker or no, because when he first puts on the makeup he's as clean as can be. Yeah, his hair is a little messy but the makeup was freshly applied and the suit was probably clean. Of course, it got messy twice.

Just Googled Lachy Hulme to see what he looks like these days. Back when that rumor was floating around, he kinda looked like the Joker.

These days though he kinda looks like Bronson Pinchot and Andrew Dice Clay has a kid.

Mixed? His makeup is runny and filthy af when he gets off the train and mockingly dances in front of the policemen. I've always thought there should have been a short scene of him reapplying the makeup in his dressing room. Because when we next see him, his makeup's pretty perfect again. That little continuity flub always irritates me slightly.

Phoenix and Ledger were both dirty, grimy Jokers. Leto dressed fancier but with those tattoos, grills, and Jared just being disgusting to look at most of the time, yeah I’d throw him into that dirt pile why not. Nicholson is the only clean Joker we’ve had.

Eh, I'd very much count Jared as a clean Joker because of the suits, makeup, hair, etc. I guess Cesar Romero counts as a clean Joker too.

Leto's Joker had a clear sense of vanity, it just happened to also be a very weird and poorly depicted sense of vanity.
The tattoos and jewelry were a bit much, but visually that's about it in terms of the problems I had with him. It could've stood to be a bit more subtle though.

So, it looks like we're getting another shot at the DCEU now that the plans to incorporate Pattinson into that universe are underway. I was hoping for this tbh, because I was tired of having a DC Cinematic Universe without Batman and Superman. Naturally, The Joker should follow suit
