The Joker Thread - Part 1

If they're doing another first appearance Joker story, I'd like for them to take a lot of inspiration from Arkham Origins where he makes a name for himself in a pretty big way.

But I'd still kinda prefer an established Joker.

If this is another first time Joker, I think they could do something like this in terms of design:

This could be cool with a pinstripe shirt and a brightly colored tie or bowtie with some matching pants:

The Arkham Origins Bane is pretty spot on as well. Honestly pretty ideal for a movie portrayal. Hardy’s Bane is so iconic though, I don’t care if Bane pops up in the new series. I’m down for the rumored Bane solo movie TBH

I can see it. It fits the spooky atmosphere we’ve been getting from the Bat teaser etc.

The fact that we will most likely see a Batman movie this decade where Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face, Penguin are in the same movie is surreal. So excited for this rogues gallery. I’m fully expecting a horrific version of the Joker. He’ll be the Hannibal Lecter of the trilogy.

It needs to be an actor who can make your skin crawl. Which is why Caleb and Matt Smith are now my picks. I’m not sure if Bill Hader can pull that off. Will Poulter doesn’t want to play Joker because he’s intimidated by Ledger’s performance (thinks it’s a mic drop for the character).

Wouldn’t it be crazy if Reeves casts somebody who is completely unknown? Like a Christoph Waltz as Hans Landa type where we all collectively say “who IS this guy? How come nobody has heard of him before?”.

I still think George MacKay has a ton of potential as a threatening and intriguing Joker personally speaking.

I honestly feel like 'Joker' was lightning in a bottle, because he's probably the only comic book villain who has as much of a following, if not bigger than, the hero. You can't really say the same for Bane or Riddler. Deathstroke could probably work, but not really as an origin movie.

I don't really think George Mackay has a "true" Joker face, but I still think he'd be good; he strikes me as a slightly effeminate Joker for some reason

Bane, Two-Face and Luthor all feel like characters that could carry their own films IMO. Great backstories for all of them, and all are interesting enough to not require appearances from Batman or Superman.

Tbh I’d rather see a Two Face film in the style of Joker than have Two Face appear in one of the Reeves films.

See, I'd rather he appear in the Reeves films; he hasn't been in a movie since 2008, and even if it was a Batman movie, that still counts IMO. Then there's the whole speculation about it being in the Todd Phillips universe, and then you have the people clamoring for that version to be in the Reeves trilogy, and it's all just a mess.

Kinda starting to come around to the idea of Jamie Bell as a Killer Smile Joker if they can't get Paul Bettany. I'm sure Caleb could pull it off as well but he seems more like a Scott Snyder Joker to me, and even so, those two versions are pretty similar to me already.

Also... goddamn I just rewatched The Killing Joke. What an awful, awful movie. I’m not exaggerating there. I watch the animated DC movies religiously, and judge them fairly. This movie sucked. After seeing Joker (2019) it hit me how much I prefer that origin to The Killing Joke origin. The original comic is still absolute gold, but I think for the new series, ambiguity is going to be the move. Barely allude to his origin in this series.

Scott Snyder’s Joker was so interesting. He felt otherworldly. His Joker stands as one of the more iconic versions of the character, and is certainly the standout portrayal in comics of the last decade.
I just thought of something; what if, before his transformation (assuming he's not the "Pale Man", and even then they could always keep the ambiguity regardless), he was a depressed sadistic thrill-seeker and/or death-seeker?

Like, yes, he jumped into the chemicals to escape, but also maybe to die?? Kinda like in that "Batman Confidential: Lovers & Madmen" story???

Give us this Joker:

in a supporting role that presupposes a backstory between the characters and is less about a marquee superstar putting his spin on an iconic character, and more about a foil that lets Batman shine.

I'd say Luthor is a much, much better idea for a movie than Joker. Theoretically Bane would be too, and I say this as someone who really liked Joker. Luthor would need to involve Superman to some degree or another though.

My choices for a Killer Smile Joker:
Paul Bettany
Jamie Bell
maaaaaaaaaybe Caleb (he seems more like a Scott Snyder-esque Joker to me)

I really dig Jamie Bell for the part, bizarrely enough. Feel like not enough people are considering him for the part.

How the h*ll is this character so entertaining to me? Is it his design, personality, something else, or a little bit of everything? I know he's obviously a remorseless psychopath, but that just makes him more effective IMHO

I don't like that. Joker needs to be the big bad.

A Joker with red eyebags sounds so cool, but at the same time I feel like people would overdo the Palpatine comparisons.
