The Joker Thread - Part 1

Count me in the minority here. I am a big fan of the TDKReturns adaptation, but was not a fan of Emerson as Joker.

I'm sure others could have done the role justice as well, but I wasn't put off by Emerson. I really enjoy that movie, voice cast & all.

As for Lakeith Stanfield, I agree usually not a good strategy to publicly campaign for a role. I can't think of an instance where that's successfully worked? That being said, I still think Stanfield could deliver a unique performance and unique Joker. I don't know what that'd look like necessarily, but I am intrigued at the notion. He does have this sort of quiet, stoic nature to him. I'd like to see if he could couple that with moments of zaniness/terror as Joker.

I'm sure he could pull it off, but I feel like he's hurting his chances by publicly campaigning.

I still think he's an interesting choice for the role nonetheless, but this picture in particular seems more "Joker" to me than most others. Maybe he seems skinnier in this particular poster.

Sorry, I don't get these "this picture reminds me of the Joker" posts when the actor isn't smiling and has a blank expression on his face. Is pensive Joker a thing?

I was mainly referring to the way his face looked there. Sunken cheekbones, sunken eyes, etc.

To me he kinda seems like a more suave Joker.

That manip makes him look like one of the thugs Pattinson beats the **** out of in the trailer, not like The Joker.

And just a reminder that Stanfield has been beardless before.

Looks unique to me. Putting facepaint on means it’s too close to Joaquin? What about the hair, what he’s wearing? The beard? Very different.

I’d rather use prosthetic for Lakeith for the smile and make him dress nicer. But i really dig the beard and length of his hair. It’s fresh.

Red lips with the blue diamonds on the eyes instantly recall Phoenix to me.

I'm a bit more partial to Lakeith's appearance in Uncut Gems:

Agreed though, that I kinda dig the facial hair. That'd be something unique for a Joker.

Maybe it's time we get a zanier Joker a la The Batman animated series? Of course, with a more serious interpretation/writing behind him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again

I'm fine with a black actor playing Joker and I think Lakeith is a good actor but he is NOT right for the role

It'd be Leto all over again, perhaps worse

To be really bold, how about Donald Glover?

That.... Probably might work in some fashion

A friend of mine suggested Timothee Chalamet. He has a strong resume of movies, and also definitely has that odd structural look that would fit the Joker, if given a few years to get older first.
