The Joker Thread - Part 1

I can’t believe they had the balls to do a Harley/BOP movie without Joker, Batgirl or Batman. The dismal box office performance is due in large part to their absence. Additionally, that marketing campaign was one of the all time worst I’ve ever seen.

I loved the movie at first and on subsequent viewings it just doesn’t really hold up for me. I realize Margot is ultra talented and a huge star, but I don’t think she is the be-all and end-all for Harley. Brittany Murphy was born for the role (RIP) but I think that Audrey Plaza would’ve been a much better choice than Margot. I’d love Plaza to be cast in Reeves’ universe.

Harley is a huge (?) for the Reevesverse. Would you guys prefer Joker to appear on his own or with Harley?

I know there was rumors of Oscar Isaac meeting with Reeves for a role, many thought it was for Batman. I think he would make a great Joker as well, i'm also biased. I'd also prefer a permawhite Joker look this time.

IF Oscar Isaac met with Reeves it was probably for Harvey Dent. I don’t remember those rumours though.

All I remember was the constant reports of Jake Gyllenhaal meeting with Matt (unlikely for Bruce because he was writing a year two story). Which is why I keep thinking of him as the Joker every time I see a recent pic of him looking thin.

BigBatTheory (now on the hype) thinks Hoult has been cast as Joker. I guess if you think of The Favourite and Fury Road, he can pull it off. But I still have my eye on Jake.

And no, i don’t want to see Harley Quinn in the Reeves universe. At least not yet. Margot needs a proper Harley Quinn movie after Gunn’s SS. I wouldn’t mind Dr Harleen Quinzel in a third movie, maaaybe. That’s about it.

He seems much more Two-Face to me. I'd like someone else for Joker tbh

Lol, what evidence is there for Hoult as Joker?
There is none other than speculation that Hoult was brought in opposite of Pattinson for a Joker/Batman thing. Or that Hoult failed and was then offered Joker (similar to Murphy’s failed Batman audition leading to a Scarecrow role).

So after Joaquin Phoenix in the role, do you think we go with another ''name'' actor or an unknown?

I think it's almost certain it will be a name actor. We're coming off Phoenix winning best actor, and Ledger winning best supporting actor at the Oscars, playing the Joker. And while Leto ended up being a disaster, he had just come off winning an Oscar himself, which I'm pretty sure was how he landed the Joker gig in the first place. So I think it's very unlikely whoever plays the Joker is going to be anyone less than an A-lister. He'll be as big a name as Pattinson is.

If you say so.

So who are the contenders then? By that logic, Melling, Landry Jones etc are out the window.

Gosling? Gyllenhaal? Who else?

Am I the only one that doesn’t get that meme?

I'm kinda sour on Jake after his meh performance in Spidey. Not because he couldn't pull it off, but I just don't like double dipping in casting, sounds lame I know.
Loved Jake as Mysterio, but not the movie he was in. He deserves another character that is much darker. Hardy is great casting as Eddie Brock. Ali as Blade?? Perfection. I’m absolutely down for double dipping.

It kind of depends on when he finally appears, assuming he doesn't appear in this movie. There might be some actor out there about to break out in a big way, and I don't know them yet.

Just going by someone on the same star level and age range as Pattinson, not necessarily fitting the role: Adam Driver, Rami Malek, Oscar Isaac, Daniel Kaluuya, Domhnall Gleeson, Zac Efron, Aaron Taylor Johnson

Not quite as big a name, but getting there: Billy Magnussen, Jeremy Strong, Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

Tbh, I watched The True History of The Kelly Gang just to see what all the MacKay hype was about, and Hoult plays a pretty despicable character there.

Not my first choice (idk who that'd even be anymore) but I can see it. Between that and Skins, he's pretty good at playing sociopaths
