The Joker Thread - Part 1

The worst I've seen him in an interview is for Brother Bear and the reporter was being a bit of an a$$hat. Granted, I haven't seen many of his interviews, but if that's what a lot of people tend to go off of (not saying you're one of them), then he was just defending himself.

No, I'm basing it off of earlier interviews and encounters I've seen. He's always rubbed me the wrong way. And even if he is asked a "stupid" question, or a question he gets asked all the time, we have to consider those interviewers are also just human, and are just trying to do their jobs. And even his, or any other actor's bad day is still probably better than the average person's good day.

Even while working on Joker, his most recent work, he was reported to be difficult, insisting he did his own makeup, and randomly walking off set. That's not a presence I'd want to see on this production.

I also think people are willing to overlook bad behavior depending on whether or not they like the actor. Katherine Heigl has a bad reputation, but she's not given the same benefit of the doubt afforded to Phoenix because people don't like her.

But why do you care what happens on set? We’re here to watch movies and good performances. It’s not like there’s been sexual abuse or something radical. A guy walked out on the makeup team. Boo hoo. I don’t care if they all beat the **** out of each while working, as long as the finished product is good. It’s not gonna stop me from fancasting a brilliant actor.

TDKR Joker is pretty well built though. Tony Perkins was more in the vein of '70s Neal Adams Joker.
Haven't seen Psycho yet, but considering how popular it is he HAS to be great. I feel like he may have even been a better choice than Nicholson just off of looks alone.

He would have been an incredible Joker. Probably not for Burton (I’m pretty sure he had been diagnosed) but in the 60s/70s for sure.

I feel like if a Batman movie WAS made in the 60s or 70s, Perkins probably would've been The Joker based off of his role in Psycho, in the same way Nicholson got the role after they saw him in The Shining.

Andrew Garfield reminds me so much of Perkins at times.
He seems like a super interesting choice for Joker. Physically, he reminds me of the Arkham Origins version.

Well hey, I'm not knocking Perkins himself. Norman Bates is one of my top ten movie villains of all time. Perkins was incredible in every Psycho movie he did, and not just the first. I highly recommend all of them. The second one especially is surprisingly worthy of the original.

I can see it. Perkins always struck me as a little "off" and creepy in a way Garfield doesn't, but that may just be me mentally associating him with Norman Bates.

No need to watch "the Psycho movies." Just Psycho. :oldrazz:

You do need to at least do Psycho 2. Tarantino likes it more than the first!

Phoenix looked great in his first Joker rendition, but DAMN this gorgeous. I can fan cast all day for potential Jokers, but seeing Joaquin face off with Pattinson is the dream. :hrt:

Yeah, that would be an absolute knock out as far as a "two-hander" goes. Powerhouses. I'd like to see Phoenix just play a new version of Joker that Reeves writes from the ground up before any other actor. Lol

With the amount of time you spend in this thread, we ain't buying that! :smgs:
I'm just waaay too good at multi-tasking because of my ADHD and I get overwhelmed easily, so off to the Hype I go.

That, and I don't think I could take any more light being shed onto Arthur Fleck. I loved the movie, but it hits a little too close to home for me at times, especially in the last few months.

If they wanna connect the two universes, then I gueeeess that's fine, just bring in the version of "Joker" seen at the very end in Arkham State Hospital, but as a mastermind. And that's where the fan art I posted a couple pages back comes in.

Vince Vaughn is an underrated dramatic actor, and to be fair he's a little closer to the book version of Norman than Perkins was. But Perkins being so iconic in the role, coupled with Gus Van Sant's bizarre decision to basically do a shot for shot remake (which makes Vaughn's casting feel all the more bizarre and pointless), left Vaughn up **** creek and without a paddle lol.

So it's basically an "IT" situation?
