The Joker Thread - Part 1

You’re right. But I also feel deeply offended that you didn’t like Eddie’s Nicholson comment!

That's just cuz to me it implies that he's the only cool version we've ever had when they're all cool!

I personally don't really like it when The Joker looks too much like a "guy". I like him but I just don't think he'd fit with the rest of the cast.

Assuming you're talking about natural resemblances and not a prosthetic transformation I feel like it's much more effective if The Joker looks more "reptilian" i.e. August Diehl, Caleb Landry-Jones, George MacKay, Jake Gyllenhaal, Willem Dafoe, etc.

If you don't mind someone on the slightly older side (say, mid-forties), then there's a German actor I just saw in the Netflix horror movie Blood Red Sky. His name is Alexander Scheer. He was quite good, very intimidating-seeming, and with a noticeable touch of the Bowie to his looks. :funny: Also rail thin and quite flamboyant. At least in that role. I think he would be quite good as the Joker.

I feel like I brought him up or someone similar-looking after seeing his picture on the internet. But I feel like his roles are way too small to be considered for a movie like this.

You had me at Bowie :word:

I kinda feel like they'll lean way more into a more creepy silent film-type portrayal than full-on flashy Bowie Joker, as cool as the latter would be.

Alexander Scheer is one of the very best actors in Germany. If you get the chance to watch a subtitled version of the film Gundermann, in which he plays the lead, you should definitely check it out. It‘s a brilliant performance. But I guess you‘d want someone who has a convincing American accent to play the Joker.

His credentials are fine, he’s experienced. He’s just too old (for me) and may not be able to sound American.

From what I heard in Blood Red Sky, his accent was (at least to my ears) fairly indefinable and hard to place. With a character like the Joker, whose origins are often murky at best, that aligns pretty nicely. But yeah I know the age would be hard for some to stomach.

Good god only if Will Poulter can be convinced by Reeves that he’d be a good/different Joker. I swear to god if Poulter didn’t express how Ledger made it impossible to top, he’d be my top fancast. I purposely never mention him because of his comments. Maybe he saw Joker 2019 and changed his mind on how Joker should be retired?

The fact that he was almost Pennywise for Fukunaga and didn’t get that chance makes me want to see him as a creepy Joker straight out of a silent horror film. Where he’s sitting in the shadows just staring, without saying too much, little giggles, a few words...back to his terrifying gaze.

Yeah, as I've outlined previously, I want the next Joker to less be homicidal clown and more flat out the Entity of Evil given flesh. The abyss of humanity silently giggling to himself as he commits atrocities. And Poulter would knock it out of the park in that regard

How would you guys feel about this Joker having long fingernails like in ASHOSE and Count Orlok

How would you guys feel if the Joker had an unnaturally large mouth? I just saw a news segment on a woman who has the Guiness World Record for biggest mouth. It almost looks photoshopped. Seeing her in motion is surreal.

Would giving the Joker a CGI enhanced mouth be totally out of the question? Or using prosthetics? We already have Colin Farrell under heavy makeup, and he looks more like Robert De Niro than De Niro does himself. I think the Joker with a giant grin could look really freaky if done well.
