The Joker Thread - Part 1

He seems like he could do it but unless he's changed his tune regarding Heath as the "end-all be-all" of live-action Jokers I'd rather have someone else.

He's got great devilish Joker eyes too.

I'm fresh out of ideas for you, Art. Hopefully the one actor you want for the role gets it!

Casting rumors can get so crazy. Remember when everyone thought Lachy Hulme was on the verge of being cast as Joker in Dark Knight? All of a sudden everyone knew all about his work and were talking about how great an actor he was.

Yeah. Always skeptical when it's some soap opera type dude unknown outside their own country and it's suggested by someone from there. That Lachy Hulme shiz was crazy back in the day. Like...who?

Heath wasn't some A-lister, but he'd "broken" the U.S., had a basic known-quantity profile. Still an outside choice, but yeah.

Yes, in hindsight it shouldn't have been a surprise that he was cast. He also co-starred in Brokeback Mountain, which had got him an Oscar nom for Best Actor. His star was on the rise.

To this day, the most I've seen Lachy Hulme act is in the Enter the Matrix video game. :funny: And I enjoyed him in that, to be fair.

It's weirdly impossible to imagine a reality where it was anybody other than Heath at this point.

Get ya money Poulter. He’ll be tied to that til he dies now.

He does have a good look for the role

Tbh tho I also think Nicholas Hoult could pull it off maybe. He was almost cast as Batman obviously, and in the same Kelly Gang movie McKay was in he did play a pretty despicable part in the film quite well. It could go either way and I'd be fine. It'd kinda be a repeat of TDK cause Bettany and Ledger both starred in A Knight's Tale and I would've loved Bettany in the role, but still loved what we ended up with regardless

I mean ... Ledger also played Ned Kelly too lol

Hmm, he has a look that could work well. Tbh I have no idea who they're going to cast, so I'm just happy to see what happens. Only thing I'm concerned with really is the style of Joker, which to my taste someone tall and lanky would have the right look as that's how I like Joker, mixed with the early 40s Joker look by Bob Kane (or whoever he may have had ghost illustrating ;) ).

Not gonna link it but just randomly found a clip called Lost Highway- Mystery Man. Not sure if its Been brought up before but its a really cool concept that Joker could use as a "Party trick" with someone. Very uneasy, not sure how the rest of the film goes but interesting none the less

Robert Blake in Lost Highway has been brought up a few times in this thread (one of those times by myself).

If we’re talking Lynch, I wouldn’t mind some influence being drawn from Killer Bob and Frank Booth.

Lynch has crafted some of the scariest, most unsettling villains ever, any influence from him would be welcome for Joker. I think a number of Batman villains could benefit from some Lynch influence

At the end of the day, Blue Velvet is still a detective noir. Just a shake up of that concept but a noir nonetheless. I'd love for Reeves to use it for inspiration, even if it's just the villain scenes or lighting cues. Joker singing/dancing to a song like "In Dreams". Like a mix between Frank and Ben.

Would love to see Joker dancing with a rotting corpse or something macabre like that.
