The Joker Thread - Part 1

Eh, I still don't think it's likely. Matt Reeves has expressed he wants to use other villains and that's about what I'm expecting for now. Joker will definitely pop up in a future movie in a larger role, but not as a main villain. Until then, he'll most likely be featured throughout the Arkham show.

In addition to my Arkham Asylum trilogy closer suggestion, you could have Hugo Strange be the main villain in that one.

It is borderline unimaginable Joker won’t be the big bad of the second or third movie. Lot of big talk about Joker burn out, but the character is a gigantic box office draw.

Reeves may want to use other villains first, but I'm with Sword on this one. Reeves knows and gets that Joker is Bats' number one and one true archenemy. You see it in how the dialogue pops in the released deleted scene. Reeves wouldn't introduce him like this if he didn't want to tackle a Joker story in his trilogy. My bets are on him being the big bad of Part 3.

I just hope Matt Reeves knows the pressure and expatiations will be immense.

The last one in triolgy is usual the one with more harsh judgements for some reason.

Add in the Joker and there also be inevitable Dark Knight comparisons.

I trust Matt Reeves with the Joker thought especially after this scene.

Joker for a while has been someone the general audience root for identify with and cosplay as a symbol for the people or freedom.

I'm so glad this Joker from his look to his personality seems to be so far removed from that.

He's the disgusting but weirdly intelligent monster that he is from the comics again.

When it came to that typical Joker grin, the director revealed it's actually a result of a congenital disease. The Joker has had that smile since birth, and that's twisted his perception of the world.

"He's got this congenital disease. He can never stop smiling."

if Batman felt that he could offer insight on the case (an as suggested enjoyed looking at gruesome photos of murder/torture) it would seem he was locked up for similar crimes

Maybe instead of crudely carving smiles with a knife, he meticulously operates on his victims to give them smiles similar to his own. Call it surgical mutilation.

Like an evolution of Nicholson's "homicidal artist" concept.

It's still there. But it's more on one side of his face which is the case IRL more often than not. It's rarely as "perfect" as something like Veidt's Gwynplaine or Nicholson's Joker

I just have to say, I've seen some pushback against the idea that the performance is reminiscent of Ledger's and I have to disagree big time. There are multiple Ledger-isms I noticed. The lip smack. Line deliveries from the back of the throat. A nasally quality, a breathy/voice-cracking quality when he's talking more softly. The "huh?" he throws in after "You're not sure he's wrong". He does his own version of it, and he sprinkles in a bit of a New Yawk type of accent, but it's so clearly there to me, whether conscious or not. The laugh is its own thing, kind of reminds me a bit of Hamill and a hyena. But there is a lot of Heath in the DNA of the performance, it's clear as day to me.

He just sounds like Keoghan to me. So if anything, Keoghan's natural speaking voice simply bears a passing similarity to Ledger's Joker voice. Call it coincidence. He's definitely putting on an affectation. His normal voice is distinctly deeper than how it is here.

It's still his own, with a small dash of Ledger's nasally tone and playful word cadence.
