The Joker Thread - Part 1

Johnnie Rotten was a huge influence on their designs for Ledger's Joker. It would be too repetitive to go there again.

Given that the Joker's duds usually some variation of a purple suit, green shirt, I think it's very hard to not make it repetitive.

This is why I threw in the entire Sex Pistols, as at least you have a wide variety of looks to pull from.

Also, while Ledger's Joker might have been influenced by Johnny Rotten, his suits and shirts actually looked much less grungy in its finished form, so I'm not sure you'd guess Johnny Rotten just by looking at his wardrobe.

If Batman's song is Something In The Way and Riddler's is Ave Maria what would Joker's song be?

With the spikey hair and all of the 70s noir influences on this film, as well as Bronze Age comics influences, I'd rather go 70s David Bowie:

I like the idea of doing away with the vest and tailcoat/overcoat. The simpler shirt and two-piece suit look would be fresh and give a different physicality to the character. More youthful and physical capable.

I wouldn't mind a 70's Bowie wardrobe, I just find it hard to imagine on the ratty, messed up Joker we've seen so far.

…at first I thought his hands looked like that from getting caught, but being 10ish months later that doesn’t make sense.

Its Reeves way of showing this Joker constantly is deteriorating his fingerprints, so he’ll never officially be ID’d.
I took that to be a due to his mania and an obsessive behavior. Normal people bite their nails when agitated and to expel nervous energy. Joker being locked in a cell, unable to satisfy his mania, chews his nails off and picks at his wounds so they always bleed. He may also be a masochist and gets pleasure from self harm.

If Batman's song is Something In The Way and Riddler's is Ave Maria what would Joker's song be?

A carnival like spin on Dies Irae. The theme from The Shining. If I’m not mistaken, Dies Irae is Latin for “the day of wrath”. Which I feel is very fitting.

I'm gonna guess this Joker is into Mr. Bungle, Brainiac, Fantomas, The Residents, Bad Brains, Mondo Cane, 70s Alice Cooper, early Frank Zappa, maaaaaaaaaaybe early System Of A Down?

Obviously I could be very wrong but this is an idea that's been in my head forever. I doubt we'll actually see anything like this but this is just to get a better look into the character.

Love that Joker!

He is creepy, and that how a man realistically can look like if fall into chemical waste.

I knew the look will be great, my worry was about the performance, as Barry is still an unknown in acting range. But that scene alone sold me he can be an amazing joker! AMAZING JOKER.

Funny, I see Batman winning makeup Oscar for Penguin, and Batman 2 winning makeup Oscar for Joker. The makeup work is top class.

Yes, this is very different than what we got thus far from Jokers. But it is also very comic book accurate. Also he is perma white. Yes, not to obvous, but in the 4K video you can see he is very pale white. Not to much, but it is there. I guess he will smear the lipstick and we have final joker vision.

This got me pumped for Batman 2!

The older I get the more I feel Manhunter may be the superior film to Silence. Slightly OT, but Cox is so good. I love Hopkins but he really might be the best after Mads…
Yeah, Hopkins is iconic, but his Lecter is very pantomime villain almost. It's very over the top, but people love theatricality.
Cox is more subdued and more realistic. Plus Manhunter is a better film than Red Dragon, and Petersen is the better Will Graham.

I'm fine with it. The baldness isn't my favorite but, eh. Maybe they can make it work.

I am very surprised how much the birth defect actually looks like a birth defect from what I've seen on the internet. It's more on one side of the face than anything and makes them look almost lopsided.

Just the overall look reminds me a lot of the Arkham City Joker like I sort of envisioned it looking with the baldness and generally grotesque design.

When I saw the cameo scene in the film, as you could really only see Joker in profile silhouette, it did have a very Joker look at first glance, and very Bolland Joker ish hair. So,personally I prefer if they make a few adjustments to how it looks in this deleted scene going forward, to capture a bit more of the Bolland ish impression from the cameo scene, which would get more of that Arkham City look too.

What are folk's thoughts on his Joker getup once out of Arkham?

With Durran not being a huge fan of more anachronistic costuming, I love an adaptation of the pared down, more modern purple and green suit, Neal Adams gave Joker after Denny O'Neil rebooted him back into a maniacal killer in the 70s:

Love that Joker

I think giving him a colourful but modern outfit like this could work well. And maybe make the hair more Bolland style. I think this would balance out the misgivings some have with this being a very monstrous looking Joker. I mean, the Mckean Joker is like that more or less, so that would be workable.
