The Joker Thread - Part 1

I want a Joker that people won’t feel sympathy for.
I don’t want him to have some sort of tragic background or origin.
I don’t want to hear that he was abused or neglected as a child.
I don’t want him to have an ideology that edge lords can get behind. :funny:

I just want him to be evil

So basically a Joker with an unknown past save for chemical bleaching. I can get behind that no problem.

Ledger's ideology is exactly the same he has in the comics. He just wants chaos.

CALEB ALL THE WAY. Look at that face.
Echoing what someone else said earlier in this thread, he's one of the best options for a younger Joker IMHO. He even kinda looks like Heath when he smiles.

Tell your kids to wait for the next reboot

Yeah, I can see Caleb as a high energy Joker. Well, a better high energy Joker than Leto was.

Absolutely this. Make him repulsive as hell.

If they did cast Caleb Landry and were going to do Harley as well (not saying they would, but hypothetically), they should go with Dakota Fanning.

It has to be somebody who can make your skin crawl. Bettany always has a charm to him. I like that in a Joker. But if you want a completely vile human across the board, CLD would be a better choice. He ticks so many boxes for me. Bettany and Driver are just too tall for my liking. Can Joker be tall? Yes. But it’s not my cup of tea. I want Batman to look down on him in every way.

Of course I’m open to somebody who hasn’t crossed my radar. An actor where i go “damnit I never thought of that, but it’s genius the more I think of it”. Like Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis and John Turturro. If Caleb gets the role, he will be the equivalent to Zoe Kravitz, Robert Pattinson and Paul Dano for me. Right on the money casting that I was able to see months/years in advance. Which was how I felt about Joaquin Phoenix for the Joker and Jeremy Irons for Alfred.

When were you able to predict Joaquin?!

As much as I like CLJ, I think it's funny how Bettany is one of the only actors rumored for Joker way back in 2006 who still has that same following aside from Adrien Brody, and even then I think Brody's very picky nowadays IIRC. Plus, he hasn't aged very much at all IMO

I wouldn’t say predict but I had him in mind for the next Joker. I was talking about it on social media about a year before it was even announced. But I had no idea it was going to be for a Joker movie. I wanted Joaquin as Joker for the next Batman, whether it was a recast of Leto, versus Affleck or a reboot. He was my guy.

And I definitely wanted Pattinson for Batman and Kravitz for Catwoman before there was even a rumour of auditions or shortlists. During 2018 & 2019. Teeee-heeee! :)

I always wanted to see Brad Dourif as Joker (my just for fun what-if '89 film is Baldwin Batman vs Dourif Joker) and CLJ kinda reminds me of him, appearance-wise. Based on the little I've seen of him he would be pretty cool.

For those hoping for Will Poulter, according to the director of It: "Will basically expressed a feeling that he had slowly disengaged from playing that character, that was so dark and terrifying..." If he didn't want to play Pennywise, I don't think he'd want to play Joker.

That's understandable. Roles like Joker and a bunch of others, probably Carnage as well, tend to take a lot out of people emotionally and mentally.

But yeah, to say that I'm sick of all those stupid Joker quotes plastered all over Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram would be a huge understatement. It's time for people to pull their heads out of their a$$es and realize that he's not a hero.

loool. No matter what you do with the character, people are still gonna pull up those quotes. Ledger's Joker was unmistakably evil.

He's not getting the role. You don't go from Leto to Phoenix to who? Unless he turns himself into a household name overnight, it's not happening.
Affleck to Pattinson? Hathaway to Kravitz? Reeves isn’t playing the studio game. He’s not after stars, he’s after actors. People are calling it the A24 Batman movie for a reason. I’d bet both kidneys that the next Joker isn’t a household name. You shouldn’t try to top Joaquin by getting another legendary actor (Leto isn’t that type either). You do the opposite. Younger, respected but unknown by the general public.

We also don't know how big The Joker's role will be, if he is in the series. Phoenix was headling his own film, and Warner Bros. had plans for Leto that didn't pan out.

Justin Kroll said the studio wanted a "familiar face" for Batman and Reeves seemingly complied with that request even looking at the names in the final shortlist besides Pattinson. If the studio wants a high level actor for Joker, that'll be the case.

Not to mention, he did go after some stars.

He went after Mahersala Ali at first for Gordon, and he went for Jonah Hill for Penguin. None of those panned out but they were his first choices.

Also, what are you implying when you say "Affleck to Pattinson"? Pattinson is as famous as Affleck.
