The Joker Thread - Part 1

What could've been.
What could still be.

Here it is with the original lipstick for the tough critics in the crowd. :o

Not sure I understand the logic of that. It's not realistic for The Joker to apply lipstick neatly?

The thick lipstick, combined with the metal teeth, makes The Joker's mouth look larger, so you would lose that particular effect by using less lipstick.

We already saw what this Joker pining for Harley looks like in SS. Lets never go back that horrendous lovesick puppy mess again.

It was also it the Gotham City Sirens comic books. It could happen in the Gotham City Sirens movie too. Who knows, maybe Ayers got his inspiration for Harley and Joker's relationship from GCS.

That edit looks amazing. Let's hope they just get rid of the stupid tattoos. I really don't think people would care that much for the lapse in continuity if it makes the character more visually appealing. I know I wouldn't.

It's a shared universe anyway, with solo films, team ups, prequels etc...the general audience won't care if he looks different. And we won't because we didn't like the look anyway.

Okay, I just had the pleasure of re watching TDK yesterday. Its been a long time since I saw the film from start to end without any fast forwards or interruptions and HOLY CRAP, Leto's Joker is just goddawful in comparison. I thought he was pretty bad before too but now I see him as Tommy Lee Jones Two-Face style Joker. WTF were they thinking here? I dont care about his looks or jewelry, gimme a good story and characterization and these aesthetics dont bother me.
This Joker was written for 15 year old teen age girls, I'm sorry but that's what he was. He's that romanticized bad boy thug that many girls fantasize about and the likes of which we see in teen girl targeted shows and films(or atleast story tellers assume girls fantasize about these guys).

I'm going to be pretty blunt here when I say that it wasn't a surprise for me at all. Harley Quinn has been an incredibly problematic character for DC on a narrative level. As far as I'm concerned she ruins Joker with her mere presence. DC wants to market her as a role model for women, she gets away with being responsible for the blood of millions in Injustice while Superman becomes the villain, she has made Ivy a completely different character, therefore what happened to the Joker isn't a surprise at all. They cant depict their actual relationship out of fear of political correctness backlash and they will always use the two together because of their popularity/studio pressure. In short I dont expect good days for the Joker in the future, infact I'd even say that Leto's Joker is going to hit further bottoms.

Little surprise that Batman comic writers who write Joker stories dont even bother with Harley. So the real root of the problem imo is Harley.

Amazing what a simple rewatch can do.

If Reeves decides to take on The Joker, I'd actually be surprised if he didn't make changes to the character design, just because I don't see Ayer's "street thug" aesthetic aligning with Reeves' own creative sensibilities.

Agreed. That design shouldn't align with any good director's creative sensibilities for the Joker.

After watching the newest Blade Runner 2049 trailer, I'd have to say Leto seems much more subdued there. SS made me forget that he's actually not a bad actor. I guess all it takes is the right direction.

Not only that. Its about knowing what works best for the film.

SS seemed to include the most outrageous takes because for whatever reason the studio felt it was best to include in the movie.

Look at the difference from the comic con first trailer Joker appearance in comparison to the movie. Chose the try hard take over the the more subdued take.

It's basically like trying to imagine Christopher Nolan using Tim Burton's Penguin from Batman Returns.

I mean, he did have years of solid to great performances under his belt before SS :funny: There is no reason to believe he's a bad actor.

People are just salty that he **** the bed with The Joker.

I'm salty about it too, but not to an irrational degree.

I wonder if he will be mentioned in sex ed classes. "NEVER flush used condoms. Throw them in the bin or give them to your cast mates"

This:funny:

The gangster thing is definitely Ayer's thing.
If Reeves were to use the joker, I can't imagine him having interest in that specific take. Doesn't seem like his style at all.
I'm sure the people in charge see the negativity and wouldn't be against Reeves changing him up. They're probably asking him to. :funny:

It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of fanboys have never seen Leto outside of SS.

This is why I think Reeves is going to not use Joker in at least the first Batman movie. It just opens a whole other can of worms when you have to "fix" a villain on top of making a good Batman movie. I would think he would rather put his own stamp on a villain that hasn't been used yet or in a while in live action.

Yeah. They can throw the Joker into a villain ensemble for an Arkham Asylum movie later on and I'd be content. For now I'd like Reeves to focus on a villain we either haven't seen before (Hugo Strange) or one we haven't seen in a while (Riddler).
