Word. I STILL say I always saw him as more of a Two Face type and that he's too old to be playing a pre-Joker as young as they say they want him, though. However, I know that he's more than capable of pulling this off.

Phoenix is a magnificent actor. If there's someone who can do his own thing and measure up to Ledger and Nicholson, it's him.

Yet I'm confused. Phoenix is three years younger than Leto. How is this an origin story? Or is this just ******** and they're just going to do an experimental one off Joker film in the 80's? If that's the case, it's okay, the logic is just all weird.

But goddamn, why are we talking about a Joker movie?

It seems like it. Or maybe they still don't know what the **** they're doing.

Here's the thing. They want to do an origin Joker story where they want to cast younger. Yet how many big actors are there in that age range who can open a movie like this? Not many. Even actors who would be interested given WB's track record and this idea? They're mainly around Phoenix's age and they feel a name will bring credibility to it. I'm going by the logic WB has currently with their logic probably is. The thing is, the Joker is the star. You can cast a nobody and it will make no difference. An unknown at this point might even be more preferable.

Well, he'd certainly be the best actor's-actor to play the role since Jack.

I'd be for it. This DC-verse-and-not-DC-verse stuff is going to be such a cluster**** for the general audiences though.

The weirdest thing about all of this for me has to be the lack of Batman.

A Joker solo movie is not an inherently bad idea. In fact, I think it's something that has the potential to work really well. He is an amazing character, after all. A story told from the perspective of the Joker (or someone close to him) could be a fascinating inversion of the typical Batman/Joker stories (a la "Joker" by Azzarello/Bermejo). But without Batman appearing or existing in the film, even as a secondary/peripheral character, I kind of just feel like...what's the point?

I'm of the mind that when it comes to Batman and The Joker, one should not really exist without the other.

Agreed. This is a facet that the live action movies haven't ever explored and it would only serve to provide another interesting side of their story.
