I had the same reaction when someone made the same suggestion on another forum. And I didn't even see the appeal back in the Dark Knight days. He's not a particularly good actor. Just look at his film resume.

We already got the vintage Mobster in Nicholson, we got the rogue Anarchist in Ledger, we got Lil Wayne with bleached skin in Leto and we're getting the humanized take on Joker, that examines the character deeper with Phoenix.

Maybe finally the Joker from the comics. The one that's as funny as he's sadistic and is completely obsessed with Batman.

I've actually become a big fan of the idea of incorporating Phoenix's Joker into the Reeves/Pattinsonverse. I like the idea of the Joker being a lot older than Batman, (much like Nicholson and Keaton). In his original appearance, the Joker looked very much like an aged, shrunken and weathered creature.

Phoenix has already got that aspect of the Joker's physicality down, and pitting him against a strapping young man like Pattinson would only evoke that original imagery even further. But I know that it's a long shot and very unlikely to happen. Was just venting my own fan frustration heh. Pay me no heed.

I think it would be a good story arch. We all saw in the trailer of Phoenix’s joker trying to put a smile on a little Bruce Wayne.

Unlikely, but it would be cool to see.

Can’t see Reeves wanting to be hamstrung by trying to fit his story into the Joker continuity. The film would have to be set in the 1990s. And we all know what Batman was like in the 90s.....

That's what I'm wondering. How could they differentiate this Joker from what came before

Any fancast of The Joker which has a basis on "Well he looks crazy " immediately rings uninspired to me. Anyone can look crazy with enough makeup.

Not saying Caleb or Poulter would be bad, but they seem uninspired to me and underwhelming to follow Phoenix's footsteps

I thought Joker's set in the 80s and they could play around with it, e.g. make it 1989 and the new film in 2010s....Joker would be in his late 50s/early 60s, or 2020s and make him a young 70 y/o or something, and Joaquin gets to play a different man basically, way more experienced and mature, or crazy as he gets older.

It's a long shot but they haven't labelled it DC Black officially yet...Reeves took on Apes franchise and continued Caesar's origin story so he is not Nolan etc...

Pretty much neck and neck.

I imagine them as two very different Jokers.

I guess you could incorporate Phoenix as the same but different Joker... maybe have him in more classic makeup and play on the whole multiple choice past angle.

But I kinda have to ask why do it? it this point. Aside from anything else, Joker has been done to death. Better to concentrate on other villains for this movie, and maybe have Joker in the background in the shadows. Maybe that could be Phoenix?
