The Joker Thread - Part 1

Age may be irrelevant to some around here, but personally I'd rather see a Joker who's about 30-ish facing off against Pattinson's Batman. I've always seen the two as being about the same age, since it's been that way in animation ever since BTAS.

I didn't used to care either way, but lately I've grown much fonder of the idea of the Joker being a bit older than Batman. The original artwork seemed to depict a slightly weathered, aged and shrunken looking Joker. And of course Nicholson and Keaton had a great dynamic between their depictions, short lived as it was.

I actually don't really see Hader as Joker either, it was just an idea since that Bill Skarsgard suggestion reminded me of Hader.

In animation they've never specified Joker's age. Not sure where you're getting that from.

Age I feel is completely irrelevant for Batman's dynamic with Joker. There's nothing about their relationship that needs Joker to be the same age as Batman, or older than him, or younger than him. You really can go either way. I didn't feel that Heath being the same age as Christian did anything to their dynamic; Joker is so larger than life it doesn't even factor in.

Is not like Joker ever does things that line up with a specific age. He doesn't even have a specific life story.

While an age discrepancy between Batman and Joker isn't an end-all-be all, the two characters being contemporaries does play into the "timeless battle" between the two of them.

That I can kinda see but even then, assuming Bruce is Batman for 25 years more, a 58 year old Batman still struggling against an 80 year old Joker doesn't feel /that/ off when you consider that there have been many dangerous crime bosses in real life that were really old as well. And it's not like Joker is that much of a physical threat to Batman anyway or at least that's not the point of their dynamic.

I meant they've always seemed about the same age in nearly every iteration of animation since BTAS, since as you mentioned Joker's age is never specified exactly (nor is Batman's for that matter). Joker has never exactly looked (or acted) more than 10 years older than Batman, whether it was in BTAS, JL/JLU, The Batman, Batman: Brave and the Bold, or any of the other series/one-offs.

That said, personally the maximum age discrepancy I'd accept between them would be about 20 years or so. Although Joker is never a physical threat to Batman, I want to see a Joker that not only thinks he can physically take on Batman, but won't look ridiculously incompetent actually taking on Pattinson's 30-ish Batman.

Hader is Riddler material. Driver is Scarecrow material.

I refuse to accept a Joker that isn’t Joaquin lol.

Any actor worth his salt could play Joker, Riddler or Scarecrow with equal success.

I want Cillian Murphy Joker!

Yeah there are only a few actors that are of an acceptable level of prestige for this role. Driver is one of them.

Driver would be one helluva casting. Way before Leto was cast I threw out Shia as a left-field choice. It feels a little less left-field now, but I stand by that one.

Bill Hader should be Plastic Man if that still happens. Maybe its an HBOMax movie now?
****, he could write too.

Driver is kinda odd in the face for Joker, but I'm sure he could kill it. I'd need to see a good photoshop to see it. Could easily see him as Scarecrow, although I think Lakeith Stanfield would be great in that role too.
