The Joker Thread - Part 1

I love The Joker but I kinda don't want him in these films. Feel like I've had my fill in live action movies for awhile. Wouldn't be awful if we get him again though; I just wouldn't use him if I were Matt Reeves.

I think you have to have him in some capacity, even if it's part of an ensemble. Easiest solution would be an Arkham Asylum setting. Borrow heavily from Grant Morrison's A Serious House on Serious Earth. Batman infiltrates the asylum to solve a case.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did cast the Joker and it's top secret.

I'd skip him for the first movie at least.

Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman are plenty rogues gallery members for one movie without throwing The Joker in there, who (unless it's a tiny cameo in Arkham or something) is by his very nature the kind of character who tends to take over everything. Plus we don't know what other characters might be in here in bit parts or cameos.

We haven't seen Batman fight Joker on the big screen in 12 years.

By the time the third film of this trilogy comes out, it'll be almost 20.

And by then, it'll be about time to see them come after each other again.

If not for Letoker, we really shouldn't be feeling Joker fatigue.

Right.

It only feels that way to Batman fans because they're getting more exposure to the character in other forms of media. We had Heath Ledger's Joker, Joker was one of the main antagonists in all the Arkham games, we had Jared Leto's Joker, we had whatever the **** the Gotham character was supposed to be, we just had Joaquin Phoenix's Joker, and there are all the Joker-centric storylines going on in the comic books.

Seems like a lot, but not everybody is playing the video games. Not everybody watched Gotham. Not everybody is reading the comic books. If you dilute it down to just movies, three appearances in the span on 11 years is not awful.

I think it would be cool if we just heard a laugh in the background of something like Arkham. We don't see him, but we definitely hear him.

Which is why when fans complain we have enough Joker material, they are not being truthful. All villains, including Joker, will appear more frequently on other media than film because they lend to easier and faster production. Movies take so long to make that in any version we might only get 1 appearance of Joker (all Jokers have appeared in only 1 film per continuity).

Yeah. That would be ideal. Bats walks around Arkham's hallways then we get a sudden manic laugh. Easy as ****. Then make him appear in a small role in the 2nd, and be the main antagonist in the 3rd.

Just use the character in a small role for a second or third movie. As long as he exists and his presence is felt, we don’t need an entire movie with him as the main villain. Kinda feel the same about Two-Face.

At this point, if Phoenix's version of Joker isn't going to be somehow tied into the DCEU going forward, I'd love to see Cameron Monaghan get a chance at the character on the big screen. I would say I'd like to give Leto a chance again but he already proved that he can't live up to the hype & he'll just resort to doing weird **** behind the scenes to garner more attention. I'd much rather have someone we know can deliver without being gross to their co-workers & ultimately delivering a below average performance.

Cameron Monaghan?
He already had his stab at the character. If it's not Phoenix (and it probably won't) just try with someone new.

Lol nobody in that show was any good. Especially that kid playing whatever bad version of the Joker that was.

I thought Monaghan was pretty good with what he had to work with (which was all over the place).

He was fine for a campy television show.

Big "No thanks" to him going up against Pattinson.

Given that Phoenix will almost certainly win best Actor at the Oscars, I think it's unlikely that the next Joker will be played by some character actor, or unknown. It will be someone who is as big as Pattinson is, or bigger.

After Heath and Joaquin, Jake’s next in the line of succession (Leto is a 2nd or 3rd rate version of him anyways!)

I also think Dan Stevens would be a great Joker, but after Nicholson, Ledger and Phoenix the only way I can see WB considering him is if he gets an Oscar nomination in the next 5 or so years. Which, granted, is not impossible.

I think all the live-action Jokers are at least decent. Joker fans kind of have an embarrassment of riches in my opinion.
