The Joker Thread - Part 1

I wouldn't mind a little Dick Tracy style makeup for a more stylized look. Lengthen the chin, extenuate the cheek bones. Could work.

The Joker doesn't need prosthetics and he definitely doesn't need to look like the love child of Green Goblin and the Cryptkeeper.

I'm not saying I want him to look like that specifically, just giving an example of Doug Jones in prosthetics, and what can be done to achieve a look like this...

...which, incidentally, shauner was all for, two pages ago.

I'm down for a Michael Myers-esque take on the Joker that really pushes the boundaries of his humanity. Someone so evil and insane that Batman and Gordon even for the briefest of moments question the man's mortality -- "He's just a man... Right?".

It would definitely be a fresh take. If they do the Joker, he should be saved for the final film in the trilogy (Killing Joke adaptation perhaps?)

Sounds like Scott Snyder's Joker.

Sounds like Scott Snyder's Joker.
That's precisely what I had in mind. The moment when Joker cuts the power to the GCPD building shrouding the interior in blackness and then snaps the necks of the Officers one by one as he taunts Gordon and laughs was truly chilling. That moment really stuck with me.

Snyder gave Joker this almost supernatural aura

I never said I was all for that lol.

Not into the suggestions on this page. He can be creepy without wearing a mask or looking so deformed that he’s barely recognizable.

I do however agree with the concept of Joker as a horrifying human being who is so calculated & evil that it feels like Ledger on acid. Short hair again. But it doesn’t have to be slicked back.

I think, when done right, a mask or scars would work, for me. Think Mason Verger but, not so intense on a face like Willem Dafoe, just something so different than what we have - but yes, I am tired of the joker being some kinda pin up... I want him to be this horrible character that truly disturbs people.

I think what they need to do, for that style to work is to not focus on him personally, but just his actions - the more mysterious he is, the more we just see his crimes, less we know is more - people, witnesses can really paint a terrifying picture

Is that not Ledger Joker?
I think so, but like I said earlier, they focused too much on him and you couldn't help but enjoy watching him, it was such a good performance - I know it sounds dumb but less is more I think with he fear aspect.

No. That's a core aspect.

Yup. And every single live-action (or animated for that matter) adaptation has included it, to an extent even Letoker. And even proto-Joker Arthur Fleck has it covered with murdering a popular talk show host on live television and basking in the crowd's worship at the end.

That’s ****ing terrifying

I can definitely appreciate the creepier horror like designs for the joker but they aren’t my preference. Especially for live action.
I don’t think he really needs to look as evil or revolting as his actions.

What version of The Joker has ever been a pin up?
not a pin up in that sense, but someone that kids like and think is cool... the goth kid thinking he is the first to die his hair green... he's huge in pop culture... I don't want that, I want a disturbing, frightening unreliable character now.
