Waits is such a weird guy but I think it's by design. Ledger is doing his impression of Tom Waits' impression of Tom Waits.

There's definitely a lot of Waits in Ledger's Joker. Also Michael Wincott in Talk Radio or just Brad Dourif in general.

The voice (Tom Waits) is definitely pretty reminiscent of Ledger's Joker (or I guess I should say the other way around).

I think like many actors he’s good in certain roles.

His Moriarty was way too over-the-top and cartoonish and also, coincidentally or not, exactly like John Simm as The Master on Doctor Who.

I mean, that IS the Joker's main inspiration right there. The movie is 92 years old... shouldn't be too difficult to approximate that look today!

Four big screen incarnations...none have come close IMO.

All I’m hoping for is, if Reeves is going the less is more route with the world and character designs, I hope his Joker goes back to it’s roots as well.
