Why can't Joker be taller than Batman?

We need Batman to punch him in the eye, while standing.

Umm, I wouldn't have a problem with those suggestions. Colin Farrell's Penguin is gonna be a lot taller than Danny DeVito's version and I couldn't care less about that. Would you then also have a problem if Batman was towering over Joker?

Or .... maybe... the actor would be a really good Joker and height really doesn't matter that much?

But it does matter. Joker isn't Bane, someone whose physicality is integral to his character. And Merchant isn't just tall, he's NBA basketball player tall. Visually, I think it would look really off, particularly if he's in a scene where he's supposed to be roughed up by Batman.

Ah, but if it isn't integral to his character, then it doesn't really matter, no? And just because he's tall, doesn't mean that he can fight. Why would it look weird for Batman to beat up someone taller than him?

Incidentally, at 6'7" he's even taller than The Rock.

Obviously it's subjective, I just don't think he's at all suitable for the Joker.

I think him being tall and lanky like Merchant would be pretty cool, it would add to the devilish look of him, It would give off the "Pale Man Of Gotham" thing the new 52 did for awhile. Someone do a manip of him in the makeup.

I don't think you can have a really tall Joker and not have that factor into the story. He's not just tall, he's a freakin' giant.

Merchant could give something different, but I don't think it's enough!

Personally, I have always liked the idea of Steve Coogan. He is a fantastic character actor - he has a wicked mean streak to him (from his past at least) which he can draw upon.. he has the face... the teeth... I reckon he could be amazing. He's great with his eyes too. But... people would complain the cast is too British.

The whole vibe of the Telltale games seems to be at least kinda close to what Reeves is going for, with the Telltale games being a little more out there/techy but it's still in that ballpark.

I guess regardless of who plays the role, I'd like to see the Joker in a different light than what we've seen before, at least for the first film. Painting as a lost soul who wants to do good and just wants to be loved rather than a sociopath with laughing fish or having a major vendetta with society right out of the gate isn't that appealing IMO. I think between Nicholson, Ledger, and Phoenix we've got a lot of that covered. IDK what Leto's take was, I think a lot of assumed back in 2015/16 that is was gonna be much closer to a classic comic (like we thought Affleck's version was going for as well), but that take doesn't need to be repeated ever again lol.

And if Reeves is wanting to go for a realistic and personal take on this world that's still fresh to us as an audience, taking that route would A) definitely be a different way to introduce him & B) feels like it would fit into the world Reeves is building right now.

Plus you can still have the whole ACE Chemicals/Red Hood back story since Joker in those games suffers from amnesia, goes by John Doe, and ends up in Arkham genuinely trying to get better.

I loved Telltale's interpretation of Joker. I like how John Doe was this mysterious character who just randomly showed into Bruce's life and the dynamic between Batman and Joker was so much more emotional and personal

I'm all for trying new things and I definitely think Reeves will want to do something fresh with the character. Bringing back the Redhood gang story we've never on film would be a good start

Telltale's Joker was an interesting characterization and the relationship between Bruce and John Doe was great but I hated him and Harley switching roles as the dominant one. Harley Quinn being an equal leader of a group that includes Bane, Pre-Joker, Mr. Freeze and Riddler with John Doe being the weakest member and worships Harley made me cringe. She's being pushed way too strong

I like the long hair as long as it's not *too* long, now that we've had two long haired Jokers, and even then it's not that much of an issue with me as, say, having him wear facepaint. A Joker with the Lee Bermejo hairstyle or something similar would be welcome IMO

Knowing Reeves The Joker would probably be a serious actor in his late 20s and 30s. I have a few choices but I'll wait and see who they pick. Now if I have to pick an actors for the role, my choices are Charlie Heaton,Dacre Montgomery,Logan Miller,Harry Styles and my number one choice for The Joker is Xavier Samuel. He was fantastic in a horror movie called The Lovely Ones 2009! I don't want an actor is too old for the role. Glover,Hamil,Dafoe and Phoenix are excellent choices ,they are not right for this movie. The Batman is in his second year and having a older Joker in Batman's prime doesn't seems right at all. I'm excited to see who they pick,I trust Reeves and know he won't disappoint

I agree no long hair Joker!I wouldn't mind if Reeves hints that he fell into chemicals while wearing a red helmet!
