The Joker Thread - Part 1

I just mean if he’s going to fall into chemicals, this time it’s not going to be so clean and perfectly shaped. It’s going to look more grotesque. His eyes would be a little ****ed up too. That would serve Reeves’ more realistic take. Then you have this guy dress classy and the final look develops into this great juxtaposition between fancy and horrifying.

I'd rather he have veiny skin and screwed up eyes. I feel like having his lips all messed up too might take away some of his expressiveness.

By not fully formed I don't mean having him as an ordinary criminal and only dawning the mantel of The Joker, but a Joker has to crawl and backstab and cheat and kill his way up the criminal ladder in Gotham instead of taking them down like dominos like Ledger or Nicholson. A Tony Montana type, gangster Iago, Lee Russell in Vice Principals lol.

Walton Goggins would be a cool Joker IMHO (does he count as a character actor??).

And okay, nooooow I getcha. That would be interesting to see, but I'd also like for him to already have a few henchmen as well. Best of both worlds for me, personally.

I've wanted Goggins as Joker for years.

He'd be a great Carnage as well.

Tuco has Jokerish tendencies but not really the IQ for him to be 100 percent a good influence

Stansfield is more Jokerish, to the point where some theorize that Ledger took influence from Oldman's performance (which I'm not exactly sure about but eh)

another Arthur like Joker? Might as well tie it into that universe then, like some people suggest
Telltale Joker

I think Hader fits more of a Schumacher or Suicide Squad, with Harley Quinn type of joker. He was my choice for the Riddler when I completely gave up on the idea of Dano accepting a cbm villain.

If Reeves wants older, he may as well get Joaquin.

It’s also about how he sees the character inside his Gotham. If he’s like “ugh i don’t think some chemical bath will work. It’s too over the top. Plus we’ve seen that with Leto and Nicholson”. Then he’ll be looking at Heath and Joaquin as reference points. ‘What not to do’ meaning OK we could do makeup but he doesn’t have a day job as a clown. Nobody cut his mouth in the shape of a smile. That’s when they can get creative and push the envelope like Stanfield is trying to do. Gotta give him points for doing the stripped down take in a different light.

But if Matt is psyched about perma-white? He’ll want to approach the accident at a different angle. The result will not be as sharp bc that doesn’t fit his Gotham. He’ll want to search the comics for...more hideous. Scott Snyder/Greg Capullo is a good starting off point, then he can take it a new level.

Shaved sides + short hair in the back and a little puff on top sounds about right for a modern Joker. Somebody said “basically what Leto could have been” and I couldn’t agree more.

I think Telltale-esque Joker could be very interesting and fit Reeves' universe. Introducing the John Doe as some random inmate at Arkham Asylum who is a small supporting character in the second movie. His skin is already white, and his hair already green-ish. No explanation.

And then by the end of the movie, he leaves Arkham and is inspired/created by Batman.

I want the Joker to dress like a pirate, like that toy I had when I was a kid.

If you approach it without the sympathetic elements, then I GUESS so, sure. John Doe is a great character but it's not my favorite interpretation.

Damn.

I’m watching Hereditary right now.

I think Toni Collette is one of the best choices for Joker. If they cast a woman as Joker, I would still portray Joker as a man, while trying to not directly acknowledge gender. Think Swinton’s Gabriel in Constantine.

Not a fan of Colette, especially in Hereditary. Everyone thinks she should have won an Oscar for it and I think it’s mostly a bunch of over acting. Making a thousand faces in 7 seconds. She’s even worse in Kaufman’s new Netflix movie. If there’s a female Joker I’m gonna **** talk that sequel like nobody’s business. Joker is a man period. Harley Quinn isn’t a dude and neither is Catwoman.

I'd be fine with SOME chemical damage, but nothing that covers the actor's face up too much. But I think he should look pretty sickly; maaaaybe damaged eyelids and translucent skin would do the trick. And of course, depending on the actor, I'm open to prosthetics.

CLJ doesn't really need those.
Mackay, prooooobably.
Garfield, maybe; some cheekbone, chin, and possibly nose prosthetics might do wonders for him in particular even if he already looks the part.

I've just realised that most actors to have played the part have round faces as opposed to the long face the Joker has in the comics.

I hate to be that guy, but I've always felt that Joker has more of an upside-down triangle face than a long face. It's kinda why it bugs me seeing actors fancasted simply because they have big noses and long faces.

He's been drawn in so many different ways you can really pick any shape you want, but all the best Joker artists (Dick Sprang, Brian Bolland, Tim Sale) give him the long face.

I still think that the actor just needs prominent cheekbones and a pointy chin (if we're talking natural resemblances). With Joker you really want him to have angular features, but I get where you're coming from. At any rate I feel like he's always been drawn as either average or skinny with a big smile.

Also, don't do Jason Fabok, Greg Capullo, and Dave McKean like that bro.
