The Joker Thread - Part 1

I agree I see Redmayne more as Riddler, if anything.

I don't see Casey Affleck as Joker.

If you went youngish with Gordon, leaving aside Casey being completely untenable as a lead in a major franchise movie, he'd be downright amazing.

He's quite a bit older than I thought he was actually. Thought he was way younger than Ben.

If they're really that committed to the "less is more" aesthetic with everybody, then I think this suit with matching purple pants, notch lapels instead of the "shawl" look and maybe a flower would be ideal:

This also rules:

Tall, lanky, big smile, pointy chin, pale, creepy...

Is he creepy? I've never gotten that vibe from him.

More than creepy I think you need an actor who can convey menace, and I don't think he has that in him at all.

Sometimes you don’t know if an actor can convey menace until you see them in the role though. It’s tricky. Heath certainly didn’t give us a taste of menace beforehand. Nolan is really a genius for casting him.

I unironically think it could probably work tho

Haven't seen Blue Velvet but I still think this is a really interesting idea. Reminds me of Tuco

Having seen Blue Velvet... this is definitely an interesting idea. Not sure it'd be my preferred take on Joker, but it is an exciting direction they could go in. Frank Booth is one of the best villains in movie history IMO.

It's just an idea I wanted to throw out there. Not something I'm super invested in but it could potentially be interesting

No it's fair, I've thought about it some as well.

Although I do recommend you watch the movie first lol

Frank Booth or Stansfield inspired Joker getting high off his own supply to amp himself up before the kill would be pretty great to see

Eddie Redmayne will forever be the guy that stole Michael Keaton's Oscar, and on that alone I want him to drop off the face of the earth forever.
He was horrible in those Fantastic Beasts movies. Just an annoying, unlikeable protagonist. I haven’t liked him in any movies I’ve seen him in.

Do not make Joker Frank Booth. Although I’d like a different portrayal of the Joker after Phoenix, Reeves is making a very realistic Batman world so an Arthur like Joker makes the most sense.

Tuco has Jokerish tendencies but not really the IQ for him to be 100 percent a good influence

Stansfield is more Jokerish, to the point where some theorize that Ledger took influence from Oldman's performance (which I'm not exactly sure about but eh)

another Arthur like Joker? Might as well tie it into that universe then, like some people suggest

I don't really want another sympathetic Joker, especially so soon after Phoenix's take. The best way to differentiate this one from the previous version is to really lean into the horror angle. DEemphasize the humanity rather than emphasize it again.

It's always kind of bugged me how in some universes The Joker is super-humanized while there are still a lot of villains way worse than him in those universes. I prefer Joker to be the worst person in the room who freaks almost everybody out.

I could see the Joker singing In Dreams to Batman tbh. :funny:

'A candy coloured clown they call the sandman...'

A perfect song. I have fond memories from my wilder days of putting this song on at the end of a long night of partying with my friends. Good way to cap off crazy nights.

It's funny how well Arthur Fleck with a slightly different history would fit in this world from what we've seen so far. I don't want him to because having to deal with Joker's canon and timeline sound like a pain (do they explicitly say it's 1981 in the movie or is it just vague 80s? I can't recall) but the look of him feels so right.

Reeves is a way, way better writer than Philips so I have no doubt his Joker will be a much better character on the page even if the performance isn't quite Phoenix level, but... Man, hypothetically Phoenix's performance paired with better writing would be ungoddamnstoppable.

It does, but I don't want another face paint Joker either. It doesn't even have to be a result of chemical bleaching; if they really want to explain it, just make it a skin condition or something like that.

Joaquin's red suit would definitely fit this universe though, if nothing else.
