The Joker Thread - Part 1

I had to look up Meloni. I only know him as Chris Keller. Remember that whole 'snap their neck while they're about to give me a BJ' trick he used to pull in Oz? That was pretty funny.

In fact that's something I want to see the Joker do.
I kinda wanna see that too.......unless???

So anyways I listened to Vanity Fair, and I have the same association with it as Pink Cigarette; sounds like something he'd sing along to while torturing someone.

Do you think Reeves will explain the chemical bath? If so, should Joker have burns or just a sickly-looking skin condition?

I'm fine with the burns as long as they don't completely cover up any natural resemblance.

I kinda want them to go all out. Like give him everything. Glasgow smile, make him albino, chemical Burns, dentures, heterochromia. Make him both a genetic rarity and a victim of circumstance. Like, okay not all of them are necessary, but some intriguing combination of them would be cool. A natural albino with heterochromia, who gets either a Glasgow smile, or chemical burns would be perfect.

Here's my lil fanfic take for a Joker that I think would fit this world:
Have him growing up in the orphanage system, where he was left as a baby so he has no real family or history. Nobody adopts him because he looks different. He is a horrible problem child and everyone thinks he is the antichrist. His paperwork is lost in the fires at the orphanage, or earlier so he has never had a real legal name, a John Doe. He gets passed through Juvenile Detention centers and gains gang ties. The gangs love him because he is so insane he will do the worst dirty jobs they have, and he will do them with with a smile. One day when doing a dangerous chemical stealing operation at ACE chemicals, the gang is confronted by Batman and the GCPD and John is splashed with chemicals causing him to be abandoned by the fleeing gang. He escapes but blames the gang for his scarring and almost getting caught so he goes on a killing spree against them and everyone involved in the incident. He wears the same red mask he wore for the robbery, and lifts it up to show his scarred up smile before he kills them, leaving them their own scars.

Y'all serious? No way he is just randomly white without explanation. Reeves is clearly into creating a consistent understandable world. Like look at every villain in the movie, none are just randomly their comic counterpart without explanation. Get out of here with ur lazy nonsense lol

Fine with the heterochromia and maybe the burns and albinism.

He doesn't need to be some unrecognizable demonic abomination though. The glasgow smile feels overdone despite only being used once, and I don't need the dentures. Your Joker origin is fine, though. Some of it feels a bit cringey, but it's interesting aside from that.

Yup. A lot of people in here are overthinking things. It's like, Leto's Joker looked like a trainwreck, but everyone in here is proposing 9/11.
I'M not overthinking things. The farthest I'll go is maybe some burns, mainly because Reeves seems to be going for a fairly realistic aesthetic, and if they're going to go the chemical route that would be an interesting way to ground it.

But I think I'd rather just have him look sickly because they could go overboard with the burns and hide any natural resemblance.

I would happily take makeup again over weird scarred up deformed bleached skin Joker. Permawhite really only works if it’s straight permawhite for me.

I only really want permawhite for variety. Cleaner makeup would accomplish much the same effect.

I just feel like the makeup grounds him too much. Permawhite gives him that freakish edge.

The big thing I like about makeup is it gives the impression Joker is who he is completely by choice.

I feel like you can accomplish that with the white skin, too with the lipstick, maybe hair dye, and the suits.

These movies probably won’t dive into the origins of the villains. Maybe for a Catwoman spin-off you’ll see her backstory a little bit. But the movies? It’s Batman’s POV for the most part.

With Joker it’s not lazy to just have him be who he is without explanation. That’s the character most of the time. He’s a mystery. I personally don’t want to see or know anything about Joker’s childhood. Especially after Joaquin, it’s unnecessary to repeat the same thing. There’s speculation about Riddler revealing a quick bit of info to Batman in the third act, about him being an orphan who was abused. If that’s the case, I wouldn’t want multiple villains tied to the same idea.

None of us know if Reeves will explain jack **** tbh. There’s no proof that he will explain where Cobblepot, Kyle or Nashton came from. They’re just in the early stages of doing their thing. Maybe we see a fall into a vat of chemicals, maybe it’s off screen.

They COULD go for something more vampiric and and less Freddy Krueger. I'm just saying it's not outside the realm of possibility.

The Man Who Laughs sounds about right, as a starting point. The silent era references are catching on with fans and I don’t think they’re crazy.

At some point we’re gonna get that Joker who will crawl out from underneath a bed. And amongst the shadows, you just see a white grinning face with eyes bulging out. Hopefully that time is soon.

As much as i’m nodding in agreement with the Mad Hatter theories, there’s one other reason why i’d be stoked to see Barry Keoghan as Joker..

The way he moves. It’s constant. I think he said he has A.D.D? If you watch him in interviews (and Killing of a Sacred Deer kinda plays into this) he’s ALWAYS moving. Fidgeting. His arms, never sitting still. I actually reaaaaally like that for the Joker as his natural state. The character is so unpredictable in his movement and thought process. It’s like he has a short attention span and has to keep moving from one idea/action to another.

Matt already explained that these movies are the origins of Catwoman and Penguin. It doesn't need their childhood or anything to explain why they are how they are.

As someone with ADHD, I can safely confirm this. Not sure how I'd feel about Joker himself having a short attention span though. I like him to be as much of a genius as he is a psychopath.

I'd kinda rather have him as Mad Hatter mainly because we've never seen him in a movie before; he's nowhere near my top 5 favorite Bat-villains, but I'd still be interested in seeing him nonetheless. I also don't really want Joker to be in this first movie. I won't be super mad if he is, but I feel like they should give other villains the spotlight for now.

Only thing is ; Ledger had that himself .

Infact, it's part of why I said I felt his KOASD performance felt a bit Ledger esque

Not saying he would/should outright copy him tho

This. Reeves' Joker could be the bogeyman
