The Joker Thread - Part 1

The more I see of the set photos, the more I feel like this Joker should wear traditionally bright yet slightly muted colors.

Who was it who had the theory about Barry Keoghan's Stanley Merkel becoming the Joker? Anyway, its really grown on me and I like the idea, especially if he's a corrupt cop who moonlights as a mob enforcer etc. Hell, even the idea of good cop falling into a fat of chemicals and emerging as The Joker is something I'd be fine with it. Just glad to have an actor of Keoghan's calibre in the film.
It is i!

Of course now I’m leaning more towards him being Mad Hatter. Which is the popular opinion. But i can always go back to my Joker idea if it comes true :)

I think it'd be brilliant, but I know you guys will hate it...

Jack Nicholson is my all-time favorite actor. Joker is my second all-time favorite fictional character. However, I don’t love his Joker. It’s entertaining as a Jack fan, but I never really feel like I’m watching Joker(though HOT TAKE, I feel the same way about Keaton as Batman). B89 is fine, but I don’t love it.

Ironically, Joaquin is my favorite actor working now and I also didn’t like his Joker.

John C Reilly lmfao now I’ve heard it all.
I could kiiinda see him as Harvey Bullock, but not Joker. Even in some of his more serious stuff, the Clown Prince of Crime has never popped into my head.

His performance is extremely underrated in Inglorious Basterds as Hellstrom, just captivating and driven: seeing him slowly investigate and deduce everyone’s identity in the bunker scene was like watching a leopard tracking it’s prey. I wouldn’t be at all disappointed with him as the Joker.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Less like Neo or a CIA agent, more like Judge Doom, Jeremiah Valeska, and/or Elton John. On certain people or combined with specific getups, I feel like those rimless glasses look rather ominous (is that the right word?)

On Joker, yes, they'd look ominous, but I also feel like they'd give a sense of both flamboyance/style and professionalism. The glasses could also provide yet another form of juxtaposition with his depravity.

I've come around to the idea of Matthew Mcconaughey as The Joker. Not my first pick, but he's got a ton of charisma and a fairly interesting look for the character.

Except those two would actually be perfect if this were the '90s/'00s.
Not really sure about that, as I don't feel like they'd have any emotional (mainly fear) gravitas. I feel like The Joker should incite fear in the audience to give himself more weight as a villain and character. Carrey's pretty good as a serial killer in that movie that I forgot the name of, though, so maaaaybe he'd be okay.

But I feel like both of them would just channel their "kooky" sides again.

Mcconaughey can also definitely be Harvey. I'd like to see how else they could change design of the scarring.

I really like this look for the character in general, not just for Reeves' universe specifically.

Nic Cage is a legitimately great, singular talent who while he's obviously aged out is absolutely capable of pulling off Joker. If they did a straight up Dark Knight Returns movie and cast Cage or Carrey (a restrained Carrey might actually be better suited) I'd be singing their praises from the goddamn rooftops.

The emotional volatility Cage has as a performer is indeed funny, especially in bad movies, but when channeled correctly it is something to behold.

God, imagine Cage and Pattinson in the same movie...
