The Joker Thread - Part 1

Has the release of the Ayer cut been confirmed? All of this is news to me.

I'm trying to think of ways they could make his smile look grotesque without doing the permagrin, scars, dentures, or making him look like a hobo.

I think something like the Arkham games where it’s a mix of the permagrin and scars could be pretty creepy live action.

I was hoping for ways it could look grotesque WITHOUT having to resort to the permagrin or scars again.

I guess dirty teeth could do the trick. Like meth mouth, but not nearly as severe

I’m not a fan of the permanent smile: UNLESS it’s on his victims. Would love to see some scary smile kills.

I'm not personally a fan of The Joker looking overly grotesque, and I'd rather have a clean debonair Joker than another one with dirty teeth and such.

Yeah, I've not been a fan of a lot of the stuff people here have been hypothesising about, e.g., varicose veins, reddened skin around the eyes, etc.

It just sounds like the kinda stuff you'd see in a zombie b-movie. And while I love a good zombie b-movie, it's not the sort of thing I want to see integrated into a Batman film.

I feel like it's a good way to ground a permawhite Joker. Plus, it keeps him lookin' ugly.

People are way too protective of Phoenix. More power to you if you think he made a great performance (although "one of the greatest performances in cinema history"? Take it down a notch, bud), but it's okay for others to not think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
nothing about protective, his performance is acclaimed even by people who didnt like the film, or even salty Joker Fans..thinkin its was just a joker film in disguise.

Shia Lebouf or Ben Foster as Joker. Use Leto's flashy modern gangster as the template and build with parts from Ledgers criminal virtuoso and Pheonix' man from the streets. He needs better tattoos than Leto had though

I've said this before ; this is basically what I want him to devolve into via a hypothetical series, starting off as classic Veidt esque Joker till he gets more and more mutilated to this point
Personally, I don't need him to devolve or look super mutilated or anything like that. I feel like sickly is better.

Ben Foster doesn't look like a Joker to me. He seems much more Zsasz

I really don't get this desire for a super-mutilated, ultra-grotesque Joker.

I'd really rather get a traditional classical Joker for once.
I'm hoping for a mixture, and even so it's leaning more towards classic.

Sickly pale, like a vampire or a messed up case of albinism. Purple jacket and pants with button down shirt and green bowtie. I don't need him with a permanent grin or having his mouth carved into the shape of a smile or any of that.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Joker that's more similar to Javier Bardem's character in No Country for Old Men. Not a cackling mastermind but rather a silent, creepy psycho dressed as a clown. Who talks very little, and only laughs when he's killing. That could be very effective and scary imo, while being different from previous incarnations.

I get that appeal, but I still think you could have both.

I've probably been placing more emphasis on those physical aspects than I actually should, but ideally I'm just imagining a creepier, more realistic version of Leto's bleached skin.

Dude, Phillips more or less deliberately sold it as a Joker film in disguise and that the whole idea behind it was sneaking a gritty, old school character piece through the studio system under the guise of a famous IP. Him and Phoenix downplay the comic booky nature of Joker more than the film itself does but it's still pretty transparent.

Joker is great, Joker absolutely feels like a movie set in a Batman universe, but Fleck is completely removed from any other Joker in part because he isn't built to be some recurring threat or traditional "villain" and it's very hard to imagine him becoming one. You could do it for sure, but it'd be a bit of a stretch.
