The Joker Thread - Part 1

"excuse me sir, but I do believe you've dropped your wallet"

Hey, it's not my theory.

It is your theory. I, am trying to be a good person, and return it to you. Aren't you Art Vandelay? And this is your theory:

Recently, I was watching one of those true crime shows, this one on Elizabeth Short, better known as the Black Dahlia murder. Probably one of the most ghastly, horrific murder cases I've ever heard about. One of the most unsettling details of the case was how her body was initially mistaken to be a mannequin by the woman who found her, so pale was Short's body (which was left in several pieces, and appeared to be posed in a provocative position). She had also been given a "Glasgow smile".

Her killer was never found, but one theory suggested her death might have done in such a way as to pay tribute to the artist Man Ray. This is where the Joker comes in. What if the Joker's killings are done as twisted art installations? Imagine a scene where mannequin's are seen in a store window, posed, only discovered to be actual people? Or a couple in a park with a picnic, posed with big Joker smiles?

I found this theory in this post. ^^ And if that's the case, this must be...your theory.

I'm not really up on SpongeBob.

So um.....I did some research trying to come up with some possible real-life inspirations for Joker without falling back on Manson.

Patrick MacKay? He was a diagnosed psychopath and a run of the mill crazed serial killer but visually he seems like a fairly neat match-up out of all the people I've researched so far. This photo of him in particular reminds me a lot of Bermejo's Joker.

Or maybe I'm just talking out of my @$$.

The homicidal artist concept from '89 was my main perception of the Joker for so, so many years. Even while watching BTAS in which he doesn't display any of that proclivity, weirdly enough.

The Joker gas or Smilex could plausibly be a fatal, quick-acting gas that functions similar to Botox.

Reeves used Nirvana’s ‘Something in the Way’ in the trailer and compared Pattinson to a rockstar living in a decaying mansion.

If Reeves’ Batman is inspired by Kurt Cobain, and he continues to draw from pop culture figures, then I’d honestly advocate for some Michael Jackson influence. Michael Jackson and Joker underwent a significant physical change resulting in their skin being bleached. Jackson’s soft spoken voice and unsettling appearance could provide an interesting foundation for Joker.

Honestly, I'd be down for this. More than anything, I want this version of the Joker to be creepy and almost uncanny (valley).

I'm ready for an entirely new take on the character. The beauty of the Joker is that you can reinvent him in any number of ways

After reading about this guy, he’s sounds more like Zasaz than Joker.

Andy was only talking looks-wise though. I don't think he had it in mind that the Joker would be clubbing old ladies over their heads and stealing their money from underneath their mattresses lol.

Yeah as an actual inspiration he's a little too simplistic for Joker. Just going off of that photo though I get younger Joker vibes.

Idk who's read this (its alright nothing special) but Jokers main thing in the book is that he creates Art pieces and homages to famous artworks.

He looks at each murder as a work of art and constantly tries to out do himself and make a Masterpiece, he also uses a coat hanger to make his victims smile after he kills them.

Its a bit too "Joker is a good guy, he's just misunderstood." But its exactly like Art was describing.00421_joker_harley_criminal_sanity__66884.1615648182.jpg 00421_joker_harley_criminal_sanity__66884.1615648182.jpg

Yeah I don't particularly care for that interpretation. Nothing about him felt like The Joker except the bodies being presented in freakish manners. And even then, ehhhhhhh...

I want Joker to be other things besides just a serial killer. Give him his own gang, have him blackmail people, have him use a version of Joker Venom.

What if we look at it from a different angle? Since this is a noir trilogy, does anyone know any noir films to take inspiration from for Joker? One that sounds interesting to me is Strangers on A Train. In a way, it’s also similar to Joker’s Favor from the animated series.

I haven't read this (something I plan to soon remedy), but somehow I already know that I will hate this story with every inch of my body.

Nothing about the character in that book says "Joker" aside from the green hair, the super ****ty imitation of Heath Ledger's face paint, his psychopathy, and intelligence.

Even then it's probably the most interchangeable generic psychopath version of The Joker we've had thus far. Hard pass on seeing that version realized on film, especially for these movies.
