Rock is a decent actor, it's just you can't tell when he doesn't switch it up. In Get Shorty, that was probably one of his best roles to date. Totally out of character from his typical badass action.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson - John Stewart GL.
I brought this up a few days ago. As a business move, I can see WB going after him. This year alone, his movies are all headed towards huge numbers. He can be serious too, and his acting is getting better each year.

You guys think they would consider bringing in Rock & Palicki from GI Joe? To play GL and WW? Or is that too confusing for the Joe franchise?

I can't even believe some are so down for this Rock as Stewart idea. Good god.

Not saying im completely down. I mean, I got Elba on my list for Stewart. But you have to think business. It's an important part of this. It's not tooooo out there. He's a solid actor (nothing more, but hey, the character is serious and sometimes 1 note). He's black, he has the Stewart look. He's dominating action movies right now. He's taken popcorn franchises that seemed dead and brought them back to life. He's a draw right now.

Heck, there's certain aspects of his Roadblock, as a soldier, that may make WB think of John Stewart without going into details.

One more thing to his advantage. Or two actually. Elmayimbe talks about competition. JL versus Disney's Star Wars & Marvel's Avengers. Well Rock was in talks with DC/WB for Lobo and that didn't pan out. He's mentioning how he wants to be a part of Star Wars with Abrams. That could add to WB's motivation in getting him for something. As far as looks and what I can see with his more "serious" acting, it's not far-fetched to link him with Stewart.

If the studio can cast Common for Stewart...then they can cast Dwayne who is more experienced, better shape and a bigger draw. His name is now a staple with action movies in the same way that his name is a staple with WWE.

Yeah it's good from a business standpoint. But I think WB's casting abilities have long since changed since the days of wanting Common for Stewart. Since the new CEO is an ex-DC comics publisher, I'd like to think he has a better handle on how things like this should be carried out on screen. I hope he realizes that Dwayne Johnson just does not physically fit Stewart at all.

It should not be looked at as this hard just to get an obviously black actor for Stewart. There's not a shortage.

I've been saying skin color for a while now. Let's not act like that's what I haven't been referring to when I say physical.

Yes, they are both muscular, bald, and have beards. The skin color is the biggest split.

Skin color is not that much of a difference. He's still half black. It's just a bit lighter. Little variations aren't an issue. If they can turn Electro into a black guy, they can cast a black guy for John Stewart who is just a shade lighter. He has the look for it.

It could work. However, I don't know that adding The Rock is all that great of a business move as some might think. I know Fast Five was a huge hit and GI Joe is making money, but those are ensemble movies and it's quite possible both would have been just as successful had the Rock not been involved. Now, JL is an ensemble film too, but if adding the Rock simply equates to more money being shelled out to secure an actor, they might want to go for someone less known (and hence cheaper) who suits the role just as well.

Being half black doesn't cut it for me, and I don't think he should get the a-okay because of it. If he was half-black and he looked fully black it would be a different story. I want someone that looks fully black for Stewart, because that is the way Stewart has always looked. He's never been depicted as looking mixed, or even lightskinned.

You might be okay with it, but I'm not. Dwayne is more than a shade lighter than Stewart, and I don't buy him as a 100% black man. Came off weird in G.I. Joe Retaliation, and it comes off weird here. Don't know why I'm even arguing this. I'm confident that he won't be chosen for Stewart anyway.

Now Derek Luke looks like an actual John Stewart come to life. I think he should definitely be considered by WB for the role.

He's still black. I don't see the issue. He's darker skinned than the rest of the characters in the league.

How did it come off weird in GI Joe, that he had 2 black daughters?? If he had kids with a black chick, why would that be hard to believe. Do you know who his dad is? Rocky Johnson.

Yeah I am okay with it. Im not into the casting of Common cuz of acting, etc. But even he is known in the hip hop community as being lighter for a black man. But he's still black. I didn't mind that look for John at all.

Again, I prefer Elba who is obviously black playing GL. But I don't have any problems with Dwayne in the role physically.

I doubt they would be anywhere near successful if it wasn't for Rock. His face in those trailers added something fresh to each franchise. Created a buzz that he would be going off on Vin Diesel and playing Roadblock, leading the team.

I want him as Black Adam. So I'd be disappointed if he would be John Stewart.

Because of his complexion, Dwayne Johnson can play a white character (like he did in "Walking Tall" and "Faster"), a Samoan, an Arab, or a black African American (like he did in "Be Cool" or "The Rundown"). Aside, from that point. Dwayne Johnson is black.

Because Roadblock is a black character, and they were trying to pass off the Rock as being 100% black when it just didn't seem that way in the movie. Not for me, at least. Felt forced and unnecessary. I just don't buy the Rock as being 100% black.

I've seen the Rock's father before, and I know of his heritage. He does not look as black as his father did, and even then the picture you posted of his dad has his skin looking much darker than it actually is.

Oh, it definitely works because he's still black and that's what matters? Let's get Will Smith or Kevin Hart in the role and call it a day then.

Not going to continue arguing this. I want someone who looks 100% black for Stewart. Done.

THANK YOU. finally.

And about black adam, I don't think Dwayne can grow his hair out anymore :woot:

You're being fussy. Which is fine, but that's not my opinion.

Will Smith? Just physically speaking? Yes, absolutely. How is he not fit for the role physically? He's black. Who cares how dark his skin tone is, the man is black, he looks black, he's darker than the rest. Get over it.

I was never "under it" to get "over it". I've already explained that I'm quite confident the Rock won't end up being chosen for Stewart anyway, so I have no worries when it comes to that.

And no one is being fussy, I'm just tired of arguing something that has been continuously argued over and will go nowhere until actual casting begins. Any other tidbits you want to put in?

Dwayne Johnson is a mixed man. He is black and Italian, and it is obvious to me that he is mixed.

I want him as Black Adam. So I'd be disappointed if he would be John Stewart.

Same here. He'd be perfect for Black Adam.

I don't know. I always find the Rock to be campy; even his build is funny to me. He's just so unbelievably jacked.

He works great in over-the-top action movies and comedies, but I don't think he can ever make the audience realize that he's not The Rock and become a relatable character, etc.

I guess I just feel like he would fit better in the MCU, if you know what I mean, definitely not the Nolanverse.

He is not Italian, he's half black, half samoan.

I see where you're coming from. He's not the best choice in the world, but he's someone they will probably look at and I don't blame them. He's on top right now.

My bad, samoan. He is on top right now and WB would admittedly be fools not to at least consider him for the role. But for a final casting? Nah.

Dwayne Johnson is a mixed man. He is black and Italian Samoan, and it is obvious to me that he is mixed.

There.

I love the Rock, his acting has come a long way since 2002. And he obviously considers himself to be part black and he looks it.

I don't see him as Stewart though.
