The Last Defenders

Where was he for Prowler or Aegis?

He was at the beauty parlor that day.

Lightening Storm? I haven't read MS. MARVEL.

She has her own "mini-carrier" HQ from SHIELD to carry out proactive missions hunting down badguys. Her staff includes Sleepwalker and Machine Man.

Tony is a man****e. Of course he has the hots for her.

Plus, Mark Millar made a big stink about it in ULTIMATES, and Bendis is of the mind, having co-founded Ultimate, to imitate stuff there. But, yeah, they've probably had a thing before Ultimates. They were Avengers for ages. Stark's a womanizer who hit on Wasp the SECOND she and Pym split. He'd probably ask, "So, I betcha I was better than that blind man, wasn't I?" ;)

I figured if they are trying to reach Avengers level of greatness, they'd need a good mix of Brains and brawn.

Stingray's another character who should be cooler than he is. He has a decent design and he's fought Namor and lived. And his brother-in-law is the nasty Tiger Shark. He's interesting!

So that is where they came from when she hunted down Puppet Master. Hmm. So she gets to pick her own teammates for her own book?

Anyway, I am looking at Joe Casey's listings on wikipedia, and for every hit he has at least one dud and one "meh" work. TLD has a 1:3 chance of being good, 2:3 chance of being mediocre or good, 1:3 chance of sucking or underwhelming.

Yeah Stingray looks freaking awesome! No need to Aquaman him.

Nope they were assigned to her. A couple of SHIELD agents were put out of commission working for her and MM & SW were the replacements. It's been a while since I read the issue but I believe someone was screwing with her by assigning those two particular "heroes".

Exactly! And not only did he take on Namor, he took him on underwater with a suit that he made specifically for that. That's some balls. I'm all for Stingray getting some play somewhere. He's last cameo'd in AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE, though, so the ball's in Slott's court for that.

I see.

Ahh, Sleepwalker...that takes me back to the 90's, and MARVEL SERIES II trading cards...

In thinking about it, Stingray would be a perfect canidate for the Defenders and doesn't he already have a headquarters they can use?

Hydrobase? Yeah.

His last association with the Defenders was during the infamous "Defenders for a Day" issue when it was revealed that the Defenders not only existed, but that had all but no specific requirements to join up by the media, so a mass of heroes did. Everyone from Iron Fist to Tagak the Leopard Lord became Defenders that day, but after a massive villain battle and some misunderstandings, most left and never dealt with the team again. Stingray was one of them.

But, yeah, Stingray is part of the Initiative as an instructor, and he is more than capable of doing so. Four members is still too few for the average superhero team (most aside for the Fantastic Four try to maintain at least 5 members), so you never know. I mean, Casey thought of Colossus and Blazing Skull.

Love Blazing Skull. Had a dream about him turning out to be Deadpool's father.

^^LOL! I thought I read too many comics...

Blazing Skull is cool. He should be the Wildcat type character to the Last Defenders, that cynical old guy (even if he still looks rather young; in his 30's) who has fought throught various generations, from Nazi's to Demons to villains.

Deadpool's father? Eh, I hope not.

Nighthawk's leading the team. What is this nonsense about picking leaders? Nighthawk is forming the team, apparently, so Nighthawk gets to lead. He's a poor man's Iron Man, remember?

I thought War Machine was the poor man's Iron Man.

I wouldn't go that far. Especially as the "rich guy who fights crime" was done a few times in DC long before Iron Man. ;)

But, yeah, I forgot the actual solict. Nighthawk's leading, and as I state, he has the most experience at doing so, having led past Defenders incarnations. Which means hopefully he'll try to tap Gargoyle (who WILL appear), Valkyrie and Hellcat in addition to these newer members.

Where was it said that Gargoyle will appear? I miss him. After the Immonen's teased us with using him in his human form, I need more.

So I was just thinking about Colossus being on the Defenders and people acting like its out of place. It does seem out of place for Colossusto be part of another team that doesnt have an X in it, but previews have shown that after MC many members of the X-Men will be going there own ways. On the cover of one of the X-titles, it shows Colossus as one of the mutants going his own way. With mutants going there own ways and having to choose whats right for themselves could have us seeing mutants becoming a more major part in the rest of the Marvel U, including the Initiative. So it looks as if Colossus will be leaving one team for another.

What X-cover shows mutants going their own ways?

I have to look at Marvel previews, but the preview says something about some members leaving or going there own way. Colossus is one of the only people on the cover and he is literally walking away with a backpack on.

I know the cover you're talking about. I think that just showed them walking away from the mansion b/c it was in ruins. That's how I interpreted it anyway

Colossus, Wolverine and Crawler go to Russia for some reason first....but I would love to see Colossus on Another Team....and Angel on the Avengers......Angel on New and Beast on Mighty.....and a new writer on both....

but yeah...Stingray is awesome....I just recently realized that in the Age of Apocalypse he was the captain of that Submarine in X-Calibre.......

Why would you want Angel and Beast to be on opposing teams?

Personally, I'd like to see Angel stick with the Renegades, but it looks like the Renegades have fallen apart after WWH. Now there's just Herc and Cho.

As for me, my Defenders would be as follows:

Nighthawk
Valkyrie
Hellcat
Colossus
(I think he'd be cool on the Defenders. His own team, separate from the X-Men, could help give him more of an identity beyond just "the X-Men's big metal guy.")
US Agent (Great as it was, Omega Flight ain't coming back.)
Beast (He's fine with the X-Men, but he's never that much fun serving as "the X-Men's doctor," which is the role he keeps falling into. Get Cecilia Reyes back for that and let Beast be fun again.)
Namora
Angel
Scorpion
(The new one. These last three were all Renegades and began building some nice chemistry, so if the Renegades are done, why not cannibalize them into the Defenders, who've often been "that other team" with all the leftovers from the big teams?)

I liked Dread's suggestion of the Black Knight, but I'm hoping Cornell snatches him up for Excalibur. I think he'd be great alongside Captain Britain, with whom he's already good friends.

Girl Defenders?

Clea
She-Hulk
Namore
Intergalactic Cosmic-powered Emo chick. Preferably nude with exotic skin color
