The Last Great Movie You've Seen - Part 1

Oz the Great and Powerful

I don't get the hate for this movie. I thought it was an absolute blast.

I also really enjoyed that one, and not just because it was a Raimi film.

Last great movie I watched was Faust from F.W.Murnau

Thor: The Dark World

I went in with low expectations after reading about the studio in-fighting and was immensely pleased. If I could, I would probably see it again.

The Lives of Others' about the Stasi spying under East German rule. The lead actor, Ulrich Muhe was great and I was bummed when I found out he's been dead for years after Wiki'ing him. :(

Highly recommend the movie.
:up:Great movie indeed, which deservedly won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. Sadly his 2nd one and 1st American film was The Tourist.

Prisoners
12 Years a Slave

I saw The Wolverine (director's cut) last night and it exceeded my expectations. Easily in my top 5 CBMs now.

The Godfather - I hate it that every time this is on TV I just have to watch the entire movie. MASTERPIECE.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World

I finally got around to watching this and absolutely loved it. I just wish I had cought it in the theater.

The Hurricane

IMO The Hurricane rivals the greatness of Shawshank Redemption. Such an amazingly moving film.

As for great movies, I don't throw the word great around too often. I thoroughly enjoyed Riddick but wouldn't call it great. I would ok the other hand call Elysium great. But, The Place Beyond The Pines is the one movie I've seen recently that really blew me away. What a powerful film

Prometheus

Flaws aside, I mainly loved it because of its beautiful visuals, breathtaking atmosphere and overall expansion of the Alien mythos.

My current favorite go to movie when laying around is Wall-E. such a simple concept that boils down to a nice little love story. No actual dialoge for about 40 minutes, but that time is filled with so much greatness. Definitely would suggest to anyone.

Overall I think my favorite movie ever is Up. I saw it for the first time freshman year of college in 09/2010ish on DVD that we borrowed from someone and at the time of my first viewing I laughed my ass off, the sad parts hit me right in the gut, and everything else, right down to the score is just insanely incredible to me now.

I'd also suggest to anyone who enjoys Documentaries to watch March of the Penguins. On top of it being a very well done documentary, the addition of Morgan Freeman narrating and the beautiful score of the film puts it close to the to of my favorite movies as well. I love falling asleep to it haha. I don't think I enjoy many scores more than March's, maybe the ones from certain Planet Earth episodes I like better.. Idk haha

I've been on an animation kick the last couple of weeks. Just watched Wall-E and Up over the past week, two of my all time favorites. I've been wearing out Wreck-It Ralph a lot lately as well.

Last night I watched The Mouth Agape from Pialat.

I know a lot of people really liked Wreck it Ralph but I just didn't really love it, it was fun but I don't really want to watch it again haha. I need to see Frozen I've heard good thing about that as well.

Other animated favorites of mine:

The Lion King
The Fox and the Hound
Tangled
Beauty and the Beast

I could probably watch them all time after time and never get sick of them. Probably lots of others too I'm not thinking of lol
