Superman = Utterly Unrealistic.![]()

Yes it was herioc, but it also failed to hold my suspension of disbelief. They set the rules for Superman's universe, and then proceeded to break them. Why not just make Superman click his fingers to make New Krypton dissapear, if they are going to break their own rules.

Too good I didn't read it. I saw it. And looked great.

You mean like revesing time or an amnesia kiss?![]()
So plot, characterization and dialogue don't matter to you? That actually explains a lot!![]()

I'm no Donner defender. They were both lazy ways to solve Superman's problems.
Like for example, why I liked a scene like New Krypton lifting where no dialogue occured or was needed.![]()
Not when Kryptonite causes him to be so physically weak that he nearly dies. It's his one established weakness and they spat in its face. When something affects him as much as kryptonite does, no amount of will power will overcome that. I'm not saying he shouldn't have tried. That would indeed have been heroic. But that fact that he succeeded was silly. We saw plenty of other feats of strength, and it would have been nice to see him use his brains to defeat something, for once. And Superman was as Superman as he could be lifting all that in order to save humankind, so charcterization's ok.
Yeah, it's maybe I never see you in Donner movies board saying the same.
I really liked the scene, also I do not think that the rules were broken here for Superman. It felt like a great moment. He was throwing away a giant piece of his home...which was a theme of the movie. Finding his real home. Trying so hard to find a piece of Krypton and then once he finds it he chucks it away to save Earth...plus the fall to Earth was great.

I don't understand.
Nice post.

No, he was throwing away a giant piece of poison, a tiny fragment of which nearly killed him moments before.

People who complain about this scene obviously are unfamiliar with cinema.
You could explain away that the kryptonite was spread so much so through the entire rock that it was a diluted form of kryptonite. The crystals absorb what they touch to make the land mass. So it was a diluted combination of earth crust, water and kryptonite. Hence it was not as powerful.

I've explained the concept of diluted Kryptonite on here many times.....you can take over for me.![]()
Not to mention the comics that change the rules of kryptonite.

Even if it's not dilluted, the notion of it being near him is what damages him, 10 kilo's or 100 wouldn't make much difference in terms of the radiation from the surface area.
Also, this is no different from any action film where a guy gets shot a billion times then carries on, like the punisher or any hollywood film from the 80's. Only difference is that this is SUPERMAN, who CAN push the boundaries.

But if Kryptonite is behind a strong enough barrier it can't be harmless for a while. Like when in STM Superman didn't know about Kryptonite or felt it because it was inside a lead box.
That's another way to see it that makes sense.
