The Amazing Spider-Man The Mary Jane Casting Rumors thread - Part 1

I would hope her casting would be a combination of a number of different things.

1. She would have to look right with Andrew Garfield. As in they should look good together and they should have good, natural chemistry.

2. She would have to look young, so under 25 preferably.

3. She needs to resemble Mary-Jane from the comics. (When she is in costume, hair and make-up.)

4. She needs to display a wide range of emotions you would see from Mary-Jane in the comics and she needs to be an actress who is good at playing a 'Mary Jane' type character. To make the character real, modern and believeable.

5. To some extent she needs to have chemistry with Emma Stone. Believe it or not Kirsten Dunst had alot of chemistry with Bryce Dallas Howard. The two are really good friends out of acting. It needs to make sense that the two women he loves so dearly I kind of similar in ways.

I was wondering what else she had been in besides Dr Who. I suppose I could have checked IMDB or something but I was feeling lazy at that moment.

All I know of her is that she was Amy Pond; I have no idea what other shows or films she's been in.

I looked her up on IMDB and otherr than Dr Who she hasn't done much. A couple of other TV shows and a couple of TV movies.

Well I think Dianna Agron and Emma Stone are actually friends. They took a picture together at the Golden Globes and seemed friendly. Who knows maybe they met on the set of the movie when Agron filmed a cameo as MJ. I'm joking although I do think MJ will have a cameo in some form even if it's just her name or we she her from the back. However what better way to secretly cast MJ than choose one of the actresses who auditioned for Gwen.

Sony had a casting call for a beautiful redhead for an unmentioned role awhile back.

Could have been the same day for the big name stars. I mean if you want people to think they are just casting an insignificant role you don't want Dianna Agron, Teresa Palmer or the other actress up for Gwen to show up at the audition. They probably wanted to see if there was an unknown that would be good too.

Why not Deborah Ann Woll?

She's gorgeous!

Height is an easy thing to cheat in movies. Just look at Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr.

honestly with the more i've seen, the more the idea of mj showing up is becoming less and less

the new trailer seems to show gwen knowing peter is spider-man and sadly like raimi's films they seem to have changed the girls personalities again

Quote from AH friend about Emma Stone....

"I remember when she was cast, or miscast, as I felt. If you’ve seen EASY A, Emma Stone would be the greatest Mary Jane Watson EVER. She oozes that kind of redheaded, husky-voiced sultriness that just screams MJ. I felt having her as Gwen was like saying “We’ve cast Christopher Reeve to be in SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE, and he’s playing Jimmy Olsen!”

I will always remain open-minded, but she looks just like Gwen Stacy because, let’s face it: John Romita drew Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy identically, with different hair. She makes a great-looking Gwen, because she’d make a great-looking MJ.

If I was in charge, Emma Stone’s Gwen would die her fabulous tragic death in the film (or the sequel), and Pete would then meet Mary Jane… played by Emma Stone. Play up his initial attraction being based on the fact that she reminds him of Gwen. Kind of in a Hitchcockian way.

Thank goodness I’m not in charge of such things."

I believe this ^ is a brilliant idea.:word:

I think Deborah Ann Woll pretty sexy.

I really have gotten that. Gwen just seems like a strong-minded intelligent girl. She hasn't shown the firery MJ-spunk that MJ needs to have. I think it'll be fine.

Diana screams Gwen Stacy, not MJ.

Why not cast Emma Stone to play her, could say that's why Peter is so much into her, because she looks so much like Gwen.

That'd be just way to strange and confusing for the audience. If I dont know much about Spider-Man, I'd start asking questions like: "Why do they look the same? Are they twins?"

Its unnecessary to do that. Also, it really takes away from MJ as a character. He only chose her because she LOOKS like Gwen??? What about because MJ herself is a confident, beautiful girl? All it says otherwise is that this guy can't get over Gwen. The point in life is to move on, and this defeats the purpose. Moving on is where the drama is, its where the character has the most difficult time, but eventually come out, ready to get on with his life.

All that gets taken away when you say that "He's into MJ because she looks like Gwen". Then he was never in love with MJ in the first place. What I love about MJ and Gwen is how different they are, so don't try to make them look similar.

My choices for MJ would be:

1) Amber Heard. She has the look of a beatiful model/actress. And good acting ability

2) Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Once again, beautiful woman and great actress.

3) Teresa Palmer. As far as looks go, shes great for the role. Her acting ability is about average though, not as good as the other two.
