The Amazing Spider-Man The Mary Jane Casting Rumors thread - Part 1

here is a simple video why MJ has to (HAS TO!) be played by the hottest girl sony and webb can get their hands on

Exactly. For a character like MJ, looks are at least equally important to acting ability since her beauty is kind of the main point to the character. She's the beautiful party girl who rivals for Peter's affections, kind of symbolizing lust for Peter.

Plus how many times do we see the supposedly "talented" actresses **** up in these movies? Do we need another Maggie Gyllenhaal?

I wanted to puke on Maggie's face in TDK. To be completely honest, I think he was even more annoying than Kirsten Dunst ever was in Raimi's trilogy. And that's...bad!

I've read a lot of comments that she was better than holmes, frankly I thought they were both as annoying as each other.

I think I can count on one hand the female love interests I've liked. normally they all seem like characters added for the female demographic.

I liked pepper potts in iron man 1 (hated her in IM2)
I liked jennifer connerly in hulk and rocketeer
I liked the female love interest in cap america

I think the reason I liked these characters is because they do more than just wait around to be saved

Her face isn't worth puking on. It might make it better.

I think Maggie was more annoying than Holmes tbh! Though, the ending scene of Rachel and Bruce in BB is probably the worst moment of Rachel if you ask me! That weird smile of Katie...uuuurgh!!

I really liked Pepper Potts in Iron Man as well! That relationship was really well done and interesting!

I also like Liv Tyler in The Incredible Hulk! But that's maybe because I really really like Liv Tyler herself.

I'm not sure if Mystique counts as a love interest, but I really liked her in X-Men: First Class.

I have a feeling though that Emma Stone/Gwen will be the most likeable love interest/main female character in the recent wave of superhero movies!

Agreed. I'm terrified of what Nolan will do with the Bruce/Talia and Bruce/Selina relationships.

Those 2 are the MJ and Gwen of the Batman series. If he ****s them up, he's dead to me.

mystique doesn't really count and she is a protagonist rather than a love interest for the main character

I gotta say, Nolan is the master of delivering great stories with super thrilling scenes that takes you to the edge of your seat! Alot of people complain about his action, but even there I think he's pretty good (not great, but certainly not as bad as many people make him out to be). He's given us (IMO) the best comic book movie ever.

But yeah, handeling female, likeable characters is NOT his strenght at all! Cotillard was great in Inception but she was not the female character you're supposed to like anyway. I hated Scarlett Johansson in The Prestige, but I could be biased there since I've never liked Scarlett Johansson at all! To be honest, I've never understood how she can be considered so hot by so many guys. There are many, many, many better looking actresses out there I think!

I'm more worried about Catwoman than Talia in TDKR tbh. I really don't like Anne Hathaway at all and think she'll feel very miscast (as Katie and Maggie were). I also think Nolan will make her behavior feel unnatural and forced somehow. I think Cotillard will deliver though, but more thanks to her own acting skills than Nolan's directing.

EDIT: This is why I actually think Webb's ASM will be better qualitywise than TDKR (and possibly even TDK?). While Nolan has the great intellect that he puts into his films, I think Webb will have the greater HEART put into this. You can somehow tell that from the trailer. The overall plot might turn out better in TDKR than ASM, but I think the characters in ASM will feel much more real and relatable, which in turn makes the action and climactic scenes more engaging. That's just my gut feeling though.

basically a love interest should feel natural, that they don't exist solely as an object for the hero to pursue, that they have their own life outside of the hero so if the camera was on the love interest (rather than the hero) there is actually something to them. for example you absolutely get that from margot kidder in superman as did pepper pots in iron man.

how does this relate to MJ? MJ as she is written in the comics should just be a sex kitten, a source of temptation for peter while he is dating gwen. she doesn't have to be complex she just needs to be hot. when gwen is thrown off a bridge that is where the complexity of MJ kicks in.

raimi may as well have renamed mary jane as she was MJ in name only.

Well I gotta say, I'm gonna stick with these 5 lovely ladies to hopefully be looked at at some point for MJ.

Regarding her character, it's really nothing hard to do. A free spirit sex kitten has been done many times before, it can be done again. However, I find it stupid people here want her to come along after Gwen. They can coexist.

I wouldn't like any of these to play Mary Jane...
well... maybe Dianna Agron, but the others are meh..

also: a big NO-NO to imogen poots!

he gives the same look to mj the 90s series peter gives. Nice nod

The actress playing MJ Has to be Megan Fox hot.....with acting capabilities.

That's near-impossible and you know it. :o

Megan Fox is overrated look-wise IMO. She looks too "*****y" for my taste.

Okay, I'm just gonna mention her one last time and then assume no one agrees with me and give up trying to convince you guys :p

28 years old (same age as Andrew) but IMO can easily pass for a school girl as well as resembling Mary Jane.

Has shown her acting talent in Black Swan, and has great sex appeal.

I think she'd be perfect. :)

Dianna Agron doesn't look bad at all, but I'm not sure how good she is, haven't seen her in anything, other than that terrible Glee show.

While Mila Kunis is very very attractive (she has beautiful eyes!!), I can't really picture her as MJ. Mila Kunis looks more cute than hot IMO. I also don't think she fits as a redhead.

LOL, not to mention Maggie looks like a bulldog.

Yeah...pretty much this.

From what I've seen of her, she wouldn't be very believeable as the MJ type.

But she wouldv'e been a good Gwen.
